Lightning-fast processor and plenty of memory:
For the first time, the 27-inch iMac can be equipped with a 10-core, 10th generation Intel processor that can be turbo boosted to 5.0GHz. On top of that, the iMac can be loaded with up to 128GB of RAM. The combination of the two leads to incredibly speedy CPU performance. In comparison to the previous 8-core, 27-inch iMac, the new 10-core model allows for 65% more plug-ins in Logic Pro X. It also provides 40% faster transcode of 8K footage, and 25% faster build time in coding software. Users don’t have to go all out and can opt for a 6-, or 8-core processor, as well.
In terms of the iMac Pro, the higher-end desktop comes standard with a 10-core Intel Xeon processor. Professionals in need of top-of-the-line performance can upgrade to 18 cores and 256GB of quad-channel ECC memory.
It’s in the graphics:
Perhaps more notable than the processor improvements is the graphics card boost. The new 27-inch iMac comes standard with Radeon Pro 5000 series graphics — with the Radeon Pro 5700 XT on the high-end. And for the first time, again, the 27-inch iMac can be enhanced with 16GB of graphics memory. Additionally, the graphics card improvements translate to 55% quicker rendering in Cinema4D, 45% faster gameplay in Total War: Three Kingdoms, and 30% faster timeline rendering in Final Cut when contrasted with the prior iMac, 27-inch.
Hefty storage with T2 chip:
For the creators who are storing large projects and endless amounts of files, Apple is now offering up to 8TB of storage on the 27-inch iMac. For comparison, the last generation maxed out at 2TB. The new SSDs are able to bring 3.4GB/s read speeds when opening huge applications or files. Additionally, each SSD is equipped with Apple’s T2 security chip so you can feel confident your information is encrypted and safe.
Sharper picture and clearer sound:
If you thought the 14.7 million pixel, 5K Retina display couldn’t get any clearer, get ready for more. Apple has added both True Tone technology and Nano-Texture glass that change visual settings for different light scenarios. And since our professional and social lives are now conducted through video conferencing, the 27-inch iMac provides 1080p FaceTime and a three microphone array for studio quality sound.
