Looking for a new career opportunity that will put give you hirable skills in the latest high-demand technology? How about certification as a Drone/UAV Repair & Maintenance Technician? This drone job trade certification is being offered by community colleges and trade schools across the country.
Drone technology is a relatively new field, and with autonomous air delivery systems being developed by commercial and government organizations, the demand for skilled workers in this field is bound to rise faster than a DJI lifting off. According to data from indeed.com, glassdoor.com, and SimplyHired.com, the average pay rate for a certified Drone/UAS Repair/Maintenance Technician is around $23 an hour.
So, community colleges are stepping up. Middlesex College, located in Edison, New Jersey, for example, has introduced four new courses, all geared towards caring for and maintaining drones, in their Spring 2018 continuing education catalog, below.
The courses are:
- Drone/UAV Repair & Maintenance Technician Certification
- Introduction to Drone Anatomy and Physiology
- Introduction to Drone Electronics
- Drone Troubleshooting and Repair
- The program is pretty much full-time, starting in February and finishing up at the end of April. The total cost is around $2,000. Similar programs are available in colleges across the country.
According to the Drone Pilot Training Center, drone pilots are also in high demand, so it makes sense that repair and maintenance jobs because there are so many new potential civilian uses, will also be a need to be filled.
