Nikon today announced the latest generation of its highly-acclaimed, enthusiast-oriented mid-rage APS-sensor DSLR, the Nikon D5600, along with a pair of low-cost compact digital cameras for budget-minded snapshooters.
Nikon D5600
The latest in Nikon’s mid-range DSLR lineup, the Nikon D5600 offers a few minor upgrades over its popular predecessor, the D5500. It is two ounces lighter, has what Nikon says is improved performance, and adds Bluetooth connectivity while retaining key features.

The main customer for this camera is a photo enthusiast who travels a lot, is familiar with smartphones, and likes to share photos and videos online. Nikon’s SnapBridge software lets you transfer your images to your mobile device for editing (you can also control the camera remotely via SnapBridge). Users can store images on Nikon Image Space, a secure cloud storage service that lets you access your photos on your mobile device and organize your work.
Nikon’s DSLRs have always had a strong set of in-camera editing tools, and the D5600 is no exception. In addition to over 20 creative scene modes and picture controls, the camera offers high ISO noise reduction, active D-lighting (which improves dynamic range for greater shadow detail, and in-camera image editing that includes filter effects, perspective control, red-eye correction, straightening images, and RAW processing.
The D5600 is part of an extensive system of Nikon flashes, lenses, and accessories. The Nikon flash system includes extensive TTL wireless flash capabilities, and the Nikon F bayonet mount can accommodate nearly every Nikon lens ever made since the 1950s. Nikon Coolpix A300
Nikon also re-launched its smallest compact, formerly known as the Nikon Coolpix S3700, as the sleek Nikon Coolpix A300, with virtually the same feature set: an 8x optical zoom lens, 20MP image sensor, Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth technology for wireless image sharing. Nearly as small as a smartphone, the A3000 is designed for on-the-go grab shots and quick videos, and is intended to be kept close at hand in a shirt pocket or purse so you have no excuses for always having high-quality photography at your fingertips.
Nikon has re-positioned this camera as an ideal tool for the Internet-connected snapshooter. Nikon’s SnapBridge app lets you upload, edit, and organize your photos via your phone or tablet (Sorry, Apple users…Android 5.0 or later). The camera offers 10 scene modes (including food photography), Target Finding AF, which automatically detects your subject, and 12 Glamour Retouch effects that you can apply to selfies and portraits.
The camera’s features are all basic, making it an affordable option. The camera’s ISO range is 80-1600, expandable to 3200. Use the 2.7-inch monitor for viewing and previewing images. The camera can capture up to standard HD (1280×720/30p) resolution in AVI format. In-camera image editing includes D-Lighting, filter effects, Glamour Retouch, and Red-Eye Correction. Top shutter speed is 1/500 sec.

Nikon Coolpix W100
Designed for casual action/adventure photography, the Nikon Coolpix W100 is the latest version of Nikon’s budget-priced waterproof cameras. Rated for use down to depths of 33 feet, the camera is shockproof from falls of up to 5.9 feet, and is freezeproof to 14 degrees F. It can capture up to 1080p Full HD videos and 13MP stills via its CMOS sensor. It has a 3x optical zoom lens and 2.7-inch LCD monitor.
The Glamour Retouch feature lets you add makeup effects, apply color to lips, add mascara and eye shadow—12 effects in all. Nikon has re-positioned this camera as a more mobile-friendly device, as long as your device is an Android, via Wi-Fi connectivity and the SnapBridge app. Nikon’s SnapBridge app lets you upload, edit, and organize your photos.
