The new compact Sony Full-Frame FE 50mm F2.8 Macro lens features a wide open aperture and a 1:1 macro capability. This lens was made to get up close and personal for sharp macro and interesting shots with 6.25″ (0.16m) minimum focusing distance.
The release of the FE 50mm F2.8 Macro provides a very welcome (and much needed!) option for full-frame Sony shooters at an affordable price. Available from Adorama for pre-order starting at 9:00 am on September 1 ($498) , the FE 50mm F2.8 Macro is a great tool for low-light situations and shallow depth of field. Photographers looking to capture stunning bokeh effects will love the lens’ 7-blade circular aperture design. (Most other typical lenses feature blades with flat sides that create polygonal bokeh.)
The compact (2.78″) and lightweight (8.3 ounces) will make this a photographer’s go-anywhere lens for a variety of situations, ranging from scenery to portraits, and especially macro shots–think product photography!
Cool features include a focus-range limiter that allows you to set a limit on the focusing range to save time during AF operation because the lens will not “hunt” through the entire focusing range. The lens barrel also features a convienent focus hold button to allow you to focus lock and recompose after locking in your focal distance.
For when precision counts, the lens comes printed with magnification and distance scales right on the barrel to aid photographers with their macro compositions.
The FE50mm F2.8 Macro is a lens designed to carry with you everywhere and will be a welcome addition to any photographer’s gear bag!
