This Wisconsin-based school is bringing new technical upgrades to its students. See how Madison Area Technical College has revitalized its broadcast studio to provide more opportunities for students and set the school apart from competing institutions.
Madison College received a grant to revitalize its existing broadcast studio. Once complete, the studio will set the school apart from other higher educational institutions in the greater Madison area. The prestige this brings will attract a higher number of prospective students. Additionally, it will better serving the school’s existing student population.
In partnership with Adorama Business Solutions, Madison Area Technical College leveled up its streaming space. See how in this case study, featuring Todd Bowie, Instructional Lab Specialist & Communications Liaison at Madison Area Technical College.
What will the broadcast studio updates at Madison College entail?
The existing studio with multi-camera switching system, largely used by Visual Communications students, offered crew capabilities, but had the limitation of recording to tape.
With the existing studio set-up deemed antiquated, it was decided together with the Journalism program that there was a need for live steaming to expand course offerings and allow new options for content creation. The school’s end goal is to have a full broadcast studio set-up with a news desk and lighting.
How will the planned broadcast studio updates help the students at MATC?
The project means enabling students’ greater flexibility in the type of broadcasts they can produce. Studio updates are being made in stages, with the first being to build a workable fly pack for easy transportation around the school. The new gear set-up will initially give students and staff the ability to record and stream events to the web, like graduation ceremonies, and produce original content like cooking shows. The gear will also be used for photo journalism, 2D/3D animation and multimedia.
When stage one is in place, new curricula can be implemented for students to learn the different elements of live television production, both behind and in front of the camera.

Madison Area Technical College and Adorama Business Solutions
What was the discovery process like when choosing a vendor and how was Adorama Business Solutions ultimately selected as partner in this project?
Prior to this project, Adorama Business Solutions and Madison College worked together to create a customized online portal and camera kit required for students on certain courses. When time came for the school to find a vendor for the studio build-out, Adorama was re-engaged for discussions.
At the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show in Las Vegas, the school met with the Adorama Technical Services team and dedicated account manager. Based on the school’s budget and project goals, Adorama provided a list of recommended vendors to visit on site at NAB. This gave the school opportunity to ask detailed questions and confirm that all the proposed equipment would be fit for purpose.
Having Adorama’s in-house Technical Services team work hand-in-hand with the school and their dedicated account manager meant they were able to build trust in Adorama throughout the discovery process. Knowing Adorama would go the extra mile to find the best gear suited to their needs helped the school choose Adorama for this project.
What happened after Adorama Business Solutions was chosen as the solutions provider?
Once the order was placed, Adorama’s Technical Services team built out and tested the kit remotely before shipping it to the school. This ensured a seamless delivery experience.
After the products were purchased was there any additional support from Adorama Business Solutions?
Yes. The Adorama Technical Services team held three days of training on the new gear at the school. The content in the training course was customized to the needs of the school – something that can be done for any client purchasing training.
Describe the process of working with the Adorama Technical Services team.
After the initial discovery calls and consultation at NAB Las Vegas, Technical Services provided a detailed bill of materials covering all elements of the mobile studio solution. The entire process took around nine months to complete from start to finish, from the school applying for funding through delivery and product training.
Throughout the process, the Adorama team provided prompt response times and administered product advice where needed to get the school the best solutions for their budget, within a time frame that suited.
Can you describe how Adorama Business Solutions helped with this project and why you recommend working with the team there?
The Technical Services team at Adorama really came through with our recent broadcast system purchase. At a large and busy educational institution like ours, finding extra hours to research new equipment options can be challenging for faculty and staff. Adorama made that process much easier.
The Adorama team took a look at our requirements and budget and offered several options that would best fit our needs. Overall, we’ve been very pleased with our experience and recommend Adorama to other educational institutions.
