The new Nikon cameras are the 10.1MP P7100, the rugged Coolpix AW100, the 14MP Coolpix S1200pj, the compact Coolpix S8200, the super-slim Coolpix S6200, and the 16MP Coolpix S100.
Coolpix P7100: Premium P&S

Headlining the new announcements is the Coolpix P7100, successor to the high-end P7000, which was introduced last year to positive reviews. The company says the 1/1.7-inch sensor will deliver improved image quality while lag time is claimed to be reduced to 0.22 seconds. Other features include a 3-inch, 921k dot tilting LCD monitor, two command dials for easier manual control, a new Special Effects mode with defocus during exposure, creative monochrome and cross process among the options, and a 7x optical zoom lens (28-200mm, 35mm equivalent). AW 100/AW100s: Nikon’s first rugged camera
Nikon introduced its first waterproof, shock-proof, and cold-resistant compact digital camera, the AW 100 and AW100s. The 16MP cameras, which come in Orange, White, Camouflage, Black and Blue, have a 5x optical internal-zooming 28-140mm (35mm equivalent) f/3.9-4.8 lens, are waterproof down to 33 feet, shock-proofed against falls up to around 5 feet, and can operate at temperatures down to 14 degrees F. Other features include an Underwater Scene mode, which compensates for blue cast in water, built-in GPS with geotagging and a map display that includes points of interest, a backside illuminated CMOS sensor, which is claimed to produce better image quality, and 1080p HD video recording capabilities. Coolpix S8200: Dense Pixels, 14x zoom compact
Nikon also unveiled the 16.1MP Coolpix S8200, a traditional form factor small camera but with a 14x optical zoom lens with a 25-350mm (35mm equivalent) range. Nikon claims the CMOS sensor will deliver improved image quality despite the high pixel density. The news here is that this is the first Nikon to use what they’re calling high-density slim lens barrel design—a new way of making lenses that lets you put more millimeters into the zoom range in a more compact size. Other features include Target Finding AF that is said to predict and focus on the intended subject, up to 6fps burst rate at full resolution, smile timer, more. Available in Black, Silver, and Red. Coolpix S6200: Slim and fashionable
Another 16MP high-pixel density camera, the compact S6200 has a 10x optical zoom that starts at 25mm (35mm equivalent) while remaining pocket-sized. The second Nikon to benefit from the high-density slim lens barrel design, it is marketed in six colors and offers typically high-tech features. Read about it in the Nikon press release.
Coolpix S100: Touch Screen, Baby!
Nikon got into the touch screen-operated camera market today with the introduction of the S100, which features a 3.5-inch 820k dot OLED touch panel monitor. The 16MP ultra-slim (18.1mm thick) camera sports an internal periscoping 5x optical zoom lens that starts at 28mm (35mm equivalent). An HDR option is claimed to enhance the range of tonality captured by the backside-illuminated CMOS sensor. Coolpix S1200pj: Built-in Projector
Last year Nikon unveiled the world’s first digital camera with a built-in projector and has been improving the technology ever since. The latest, the S1200pj, is claimed to have a 40% brighter image than its predecessor and can produce a 60-inch display.
