This morning’s news from Olympus brings new updates to highly-anticipated launches and software upgrades to help users work from home or stream with ease.
M.Zuiko Digital lens roadmap:
The M.Zuiko Digital lens roadmap details Olympus’ plans to grow its user-favorite lens line, as detailed in the image above. The Micro Four Thirds System will grow, thanks to the addition of the ED 8-25mm F4.0 PRO and a yet-to-be-announced macro lens.
Olympus is also sharing an update on the M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS PRO super telephoto zoom, which was first announced in January 2019. The lens is due to be released this winter, the company notes.
“Olympus will continue enhancing the lens lineup to make full use of the unrivaled portability made possible by the compact, lightweight, high image quality of the Micro Four Thirds System,” the company press release adds.
Bird detection AF firmware update:
Alongside the lens roadmap, Olympus has also unveiled the development of bird detection AF (to be added to Intelligent Subject Detection AF) for the Olympus OM-D E-M1X. Created to enhance the powers of the camera for wildlife and birding photographers, the added functionality will make capturing far-away and quick-moving subjects even easier, come release in winter 2020.
OM-D Webcam Beta software:
Finally, to round out the collection of improvements, Olympus has announced that a new OM-D Webcam Beta software is now available for download, for Windows 10 and the following cameras: E-M1X, E-M1, E-M1 Mark II, E-M1 Mark III and the E-M5 Mark II.
With simple gear and a few short steps, users will be able to use their Olympus OM-D cameras as webcams, and use for work conference calls, video game streaming, and more.
