Today, Olympus announced its all new, ultra-portable, Micro Four Thirds camera — the OM-D E-M1X — further committing to its trusted Live MOS 20.4MP sensor. This time, Olympus has surrounded it with a more dynamic and durable frame. This innovative technology and revolutionary speed is designed to forever change the way you take photos.
Key features:
- 20.4 MP Live MOS Sensor with dual TruePic™ VIII Image Processors
- 60 fps, 18 fps Continuous Shooting (RAW & JPEG)
- Double Battery Support for 2 BLH-1 Batteries
- USB Type-C in-camera charging
- 5-Axis Sync IS provides 7.5 stops of compensation
- 121-Point All Cross-Type On-Chip Phase Detection plus Contrast Detection AF
- Intelligent subject detection AF
- Live Neutral Density provides the effects of an ND filter without the need to use a filter
- Lightweight, weatherproof body
The new build:
Though the dimensions of the E-M1X are larger than the OM-D E-M1 Mark II, the E-M1X is still relatively more compact and lightweight compared to comparable DSLRs. Weighing a modest 2.2 pounds (with batteries and memory cards), it will feel quite light considering its size and quality of build. The body is built with weatherproof magnesium alloy, protecting it from water, dust, and extreme temperatures.
The built-in vertical grip makes the camera much more versatile, allowing more control when shooting vertical images, and a redesigned button layout is meant to maximize the power of shooting through the viewfinder. Users will also notice that the multi-selector has been placed on horizontal and vertical grips, and a C-lock lever allows for the disabling of some controls to prevent any accidental settings changes.
The E-M1X uses the same mount as the E-M1 Mark II, which integrates with the signature, M.Zuiko PRO lenses. Not only is the shutter fast, but it also surpasses durability tests of 400,000 actuations.
Revolutionary speed and superior focusing:
The E-M1X is packed with the revolutionary speed of 60 fps (S-AF), and 18 fps (C-AF Tracking) continuous shooting, making the body appealing to sports and wildlife photographers. The 121-Point All Cross-Type On-Chip Phase Detection plus Contrast Detection AF allows you to capture split-second moments with superior accuracy.
Pro Capture Mode shows you a live and full-resolution frame when pressing the shutter halfway, then captures the previous 35 frames after fully pressing the shutter release.
Meanwhile, the Intelligent Subject Detection AF has utilized artificial intelligence-based deep learning technology that allows for the camera to detect three different subjects — motorsports, airplanes, and trains — with precise tracking.
World’s highest image stabilization:
Olympus has focused on making sure you can capture high resolution photos without the use of a tripod in past cameras, and the E-M1X is no different. The Dual TruePic™ VIII image processor is accompanied by the 5-Axis image stabilization, providing 7.5 shutter speed steps of compensation (when paired with the stabilized M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm F4.0 IS PRO lens), bringing you the world’s most effective stabilization performance, right to your hands. The Hand-Held High-Res Shot Mode provides 50MP images without the need of stabilizing gear (or 80MP High Res Shot with a tripod). With the combined stabilization of both the body and the M.Zuiko, you are able to capture smooth, Handheld 4K and Cinema 4K video.
Olympus’ new release confirms the brand’s dedication to the well-liked Micro Four Thirds sensor. The E-M1X is a durable and digital powerhouse that shows no limits.
