Updated Design

The LUMIX S9 comes in four eye-catching colors; Jet Black, Crimson Red, Dark Olive, and Classical Blue. An enjoyable way to showcase personality for anyone who enjoys a pop of color or chooses the more inconspicuous option. While already compact, once paired with the new LUMIX S 26mm F8 lens, it can easily fit into your pocket. In addition to the portable and flat design of the camera, it offers USB Power Charging while on the go. Making shooting days a breeze!

It features an L-mount, which is compatible with LUMIX’s broad line of 85 L-mount lenses. And the 1840k-dot Free-angle monitor, lets the user easily compose shots from any angle and tucks away to prevent damage when not in use.

New App – LUMIX Lab

The new LUMIX Lab app was created for seamless social sharing. Not only can the user view and download their photos and video but now they have LUT management. The app allows users to create their own original LUT and then transfer that to the LUMIX S9. Users may also download creators’ LUTs from the LUMIX official website. Once transferred to the camera, the Real-Time LUT feature allows users to overlay LUTs to the live image to see what fits the scene best. With the LUT applied, users can shoot and share to social media immediately with the improved connection speed and stability of the LUMIX Lab app.

Designed with Creators in Mind

All the features above make the LUMIX S9 camera, a great choice for posting on social, offering the new MP4(Lite) video format. With a 3840X2560 (3:2) 4:2:0 10-Bit H.265/HEVC AAC sizing at 30p/25p 50Mbps, it is 41% smaller with a 1.7X faster data transfer. This makes it even easier to share videos captured with the 3:2 open gate sensor and can be cropped to fit many aspect ratios.

Who should buy this Camera?

The LUMIX S9 is for anyone who is looking to level up their production and stand out in social media feeds. They would certainly benefit from the bump in quality that this camera has to offer. It can be for enthusiasts looking to get their start in photography, or perhaps a video creator who needs a great starter camera with innovative properties. There are a ton of functions and they are all easy to comprehend. Out of the box, this camera is ready to go. If purchased with the kit lens, you get the Lumix S 20-60mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, a zoom fit for environmental shots or even narrative work.

In my opinion, someone who is new to shooting would not get overwhelmed and it would give you the ability to grow and learn with it, grasping the concept of shooting in general. With all the features loaded into the small package, this camera is also great for pros who would benefit from the compact size of the body with access to pro glass.

The New LUMIX S 26mm F8 Pancake Lens

Released by Panasonic at the same time as the LUMIX S9 camera is a lens that fits such a camera so well – in every sense of the word! It is the LUMIX S 26mm F8 Pancake lens, a slim tool for a compact camera.

Focal Length of 26mm

The LUMIX S 26mm F8 lens is built with the design and quality you’d expect from the LUMIX S Series. With its focal length of 26mm, you can capture stunning wide-angle shots in high resolution, such as bustling cityscapes or landscapes that can only be seen from the top of a mountain.

F8 Constant Aperture

This new LUMIX S pancake lens has a fixed F-stop of F8 that allows for a consistent display of exposure in every picture you take. This constant factor across all your photos simplifies your load in post-production.

Your Next Favorite Walk-Around Lens

Think about it: You can slip the LUMIX S 26mm F8 lens right into your backpack pocket before running out the door for a spontaneous shoot with friends. Or, you could meet amazing people on the street and offer to take their photos.

All of these come as no hassle to you, especially when your equipment is as sleek and compact as the LUMIX S9, paired with the 26mm F8 pancake lens.

Summing Up

In summary, I was glad I had the chance to spend ample time working with this camera in preparation for the launch. When I first opened the box, I was in disbelief that this was a full-frame camera. I pulled the body cap off and checked the sensor to be sure. And well, I was in disbelief because this is one of the most compact full-frame cameras I have ever seen and used. For that fact alone, I think this is an incredible camera, and when paired with the LUMIX S 26mm F8 lens, it fits into the cargo pocket of my pants, including the front pocket. That is when I wasn’t carrying my phone or keys on me.

The sheer portability and size are great, but the quality is on par with my LUMIX S5IIX, taking it up a notch. In my video review of this camera, I built it out like I would a pro-level cinema camera, and I was amazed at how easily I managed to pull a great image out of the footage.

As I mentioned in this article, any level of photographer or videographer can benefit from having this camera in their kit; don’t let the fun colors fool you. Thus, I would love to take this camera traveling and potentially bring it along to events that I traditionally wouldn’t want to drag my full-bodied cameras to — it’s that great! Go check it out, walk around, and create, you won’t regret it.
