Easy to set up, easy to use
Occasionally, production equipment can be difficult to use, but the Genie Micro is simple and straightforward. The Micro slides right into the hot shoe of either a mirrorless or DSLR camera. Creators can connect the remote with either a USB cable or the provided Syrp link cable. Once users download the Syrp app, they are free to start shooting remotely.
The Syrp link cable allows for simple controls like triggering for stop motion and timelapses. Connecting with a USB-C cable opens up more advanced controls like aperture, shutter speed, and ISO adjustments. Syrp provides a USB-C to USB-A adapter if that’s an issue.

All about the app
If you’ve ever used any of Syrp’s motion control gear, then you’re familiar with the accompanying app. The Syrp app is free to download and easy to navigate. While connected to the Genie Micro through the app, users can remotely change exposure settings, apply HDR mode, properly capture a timelapse, and more. If you happen to be shooting multicam, you can remotely control any connected Genie Micro via the app.
Thanks to Bluetooth, the app and remote work up to 30 feet away so you can move freely. The Genie Micro is also WiFi enabled so any software updates come through automatically.

Timelapse and stop motion
Two of the more creative uses of the Genie Micro are timelapse and stop motion. When it comes to timelapse, creators can perfect their shots by adjusting record time, interval, and play time. While using the USB-C connection, users can achieve what’s known as the “holy grail” timelapse, or a timelapse that captures the change from day to night or vice versa. This is usually frustratingly difficult because the exposure needs to be ramped as the lighting changes, but physically adjusting exposure on the camera can bump or shake the framing and take away from a smooth shot. With the Genie Micro, users can successfully change the exposure remotely for a stunning day-to-night timelapse.
Stop motion content is compelling if done right, but can be time-consuming and tough to execute. The Genie Micro solves these issues with the Live Control function within the app. Users can change exposure settings and trigger recording from afar so the framing stays consistent and time isn’t lost walking back and forth from the subject to the camera.
Syrp has created the Genie Micro to streamline these, and more, production workflows.
