Questions & Answers

ROBERT S : Does anyone know the difference between the FLW and FLD filters?AMY B : From Hoya's website: "Used to correct the greenish tone that appears when daylight type films are used under fluorescent lighting. FL-W is for use with warm white or white type fluo-rescent lamps. FL-DAY is for use with daylight type fluorescent lamps."SID R : I'm not absolutely sure, but I think I learned that the FL D filter is for white balance corections indoors under tungsten light. Whereas the FL W filter is for outdoors to correct for yellow-orange conditions. I bought it because Brian Peterson said he used it to bring out the magenta in sunset shots. It works well for that.ANDREW R : The FL-D filter is for use with "daylight" balanced fluorescent lights, the FL-W is for use with "warm-white" fluorescents.
KEN K : Is this the Magenta colored filter that Bryan Peterson is using in his videos when shooting at night?SID R : I believe it is - that's the reason I bought tho I haven't ussed it yetPATRICK M : Yes, this is the filter that Bryan used in his demonstration. However, I can't really speak to its effectiveness. I had intended to try to take some twilight pictures as Bryan had in the demonstration, but the opportunity ha not materialized. Given the occasion, I do think the results will be quite all right.JUSTIN B : I'm thinking you are talking about his video about the 6 min window before the sky goes black. Yes, this is the same filter. I bought it just before a trip to New York and was able to duplicate his results from the "top of the Rock."DONALD P : Yes it is.

Buy this Hoya brand!

This is the filter I should have purchased to begin with. I tried to save money by a new, Old Stock FLW filter on eBay. It had a much lighter tint and indeed taking photos it did not provide much effect. I purchased this and immediately noticed the difference when I took it out of the boxb and the photos taken with it are exactly how an FLW filter should render an image.

Not Used Yet!

When I purchased this filter, it was my intention to use it in a creative ways for sunsets. I have yet to use it, but as usual Tiffen makes a first-class filter and I am sure it will serve my purpose well when I travel up east this fall.

Adds punch to sunsets.

Just shot the sky line of Manhattan from the Brooklyn side. I used the FLW and had great results. I let a friend borrow it to shoot the same scene. Next day she purchased the filter.

Great Filter

Professional photographer Bryan Peterson uses this filter to take sunset photos. He recommended the lens as part of his on-line photography class. I bought it from Adorama. . .used it. . .and have taken some really nice sunset pictures. I would recommend it to those who would want to kick their sunsets up a notch.

If you want to know the truth, I tried it last week during a sunset at the fair and I was very disappointed

If you want to know the truth, I tried it last week during a sunset at the fair and I was very disappointed - I do much much better without it - I was taking the word of Bryan Peterson - He says don't leave without it - Wrong ! I guess I'll have to play with it a little more ....

FLW magic

I've saw Brian Peterson use and promote this wonderful filter and so, I decided to give it a try. I was so impressed!!! Definitely worth the way (it was out of stock in my lens size). I would recommend it to anyone who wants their night time images to come alive. Magic!

warm up your shots

Watched Peterson video on ADORAMA and he used this filter for sunset shots. He is right. This is a great filter for warming those maybe shots. Works better than using PP to make changes in color. I find no distortion when using it.

BEAUTIFUL SUNSETS

I went to Freeport, LI to take some pictures and was totally blown away. I ended up staying for sunset and consider the scenic views I shot the best ever in my portfolio. The only problem I had was the long wait I had getting it from the time I ordered it. If you're into nature photography get this one.

Extra Punch for sunset/sunrise photos

Adds extra splash of color for sunset photos, would not recommend for all shots but if the light is right adds a nice touch of class to photos. Using the FLW you do not need to compensate for the filter as the filter will darken the scene just enough for the right scene brightness. Remember for great sunset photos try under exposing the scene to bring out the colors.

great for sunrise and sunset, i did shoot some cityscape, landscape with this filter using my 70-200 @ 200mm, the colors are terrific (orange is more red then blue is more violet.)im doing the similar thing in post process but using the filter is still a lot better and more pleasing and natural. I copied the technique from bryan peterson should I say but why should I re invent the wheel?. Just a great filter for those special shots

Experience the transformative power of the 58mm FLW Fluorescent Multi Coated Glass Filter, a high-quality and reliable tool for photographers seeking to enhance their work. This versatile filter is designed to combat the color shifts often caused by fluorescent lighting, a common issue that may not be noticeable to the naked eye but can significantly impact the quality of your images on film.

When shooting under "daylight" fluorescent lighting, images can often take on an unwanted purplish tone. However, with the application of this durable filter, you can correct and restore a normal color balance, resulting in more natural and appealing photographs.

In industrial settings, you may encounter "warm white" fluorescents, which can impart a greenish tone to your images. This efficient filter serves as a corrective tool, neutralizing the greenish hue and producing images with more accurate color representation.

The 58mm FLW Fluorescent Multi Coated Glass Filter is not just a simple filter; it's a multi-coated marvel. The multiple layers of coating work to reduce reflections, glare, and lens flare, thereby improving image quality and contrast.

Whether you're shooting indoor portraits or capturing the intricate details of an industrial setting, this filter is an essential tool for producing high-quality, professional-grade photographs. Experience the difference with the 58mm FLW Fluorescent Multi Coated Glass Filter, and elevate your photography to new heights.
