Q&A

Questions & Answers

PREETHAM A : I use a Canon 18-135 mm lens on a Canon EOS 60D. Will this filter fit on my lens?MARK H : If the 18 to 135 mm lens takes a 77mm filter then yesJERRI H : I believe the Canon 18-135mm lens accepts 67mm filters (check your lens to make sure). The Hoya 77mm would be too big. You would need to buy the 67mm filter (same filter different size) http://www.adorama.com/HY67FLWM.html
REID N : I've watched Bryan Peterson video on the FLW filter. Is this filter best used by open water, e.g., oceanside? I live in the mountains of western North Carolina and would like to enhance my sunrise / sunset photos. Would this filter still work well in this setting?DAVID W : Filters of this type are constantly in use whether in the mountains or at the seaside. Each filter that you buy has a different result when used correctly. Just use it. Don't let it get scratched. Good shooting.ROBERT B : I have not used the filter very much. It imparts a slight purple cast to photos, which sometimes enhances the drama of sunsets and sunrises. You can see an example on my website: rbarnhill dot com, click on "Photography" then "Eyes on Cuba", then "Cienfuegos, and scroll down to the pair of photographs which have caption "Sunsets at the beach aren't bad". The rightmost photo was taken with this filter. I would think that some mountain scenes might also benefit, but you must experiment to find what pleases you.ARTHUR J : You can most definitely use this filter for either landscape or seascape photography. It's especially effective during sunset and sunrise. Keep in mind that the color cast will affect your entire photo. Should the color cast become bothersome, localized adjustments/color corrections can be easily made to neutrallize the filters effect on specific areas. Lastly, I've had little to no issues with this filter being prone to flare, color fringing, or compromising autofocus speed.
Carsten H : Is this the filter Bryan Peterson talks about in his latest video?Jeanine C : “FLW Filter Ep 332: You Keep Shooting with Bryan Peterson: Adorama Photography TV” Here is the more recent video about the FL-W filterTOM W : YesUYEN V : yes this is the video http://www.adorama.com/alc/0013843/article/No-Shows-No-Problem-Ep-309-You-Keep-Shooting-with-Bryan-Peterson-Adorama-Photography-TVDON C : Hey, Carsten. Sorry about my previous response, but the answer to your question is "yes". It is the same filter that Mr. Peterson used in shooting sunrises and probably good for sunsets. Good shooting.DON C : Since you didn't indicate which video or the date of the video, I can't respond. Based on a search of Mr. Peterson's recent videos, which seem to be neutral density and polarizers; I'd say "no". The filter I purchased from the nice people at Adorama helps if you are shooting under fluorescent lights like you'd see in an office or industrial building. This filter help to rebalance the light. Of course, the filter may be used to create special lighting in normal light or other lighting conditions, but I haven't used it for that. Hope this helps.TIMOTHY T : Yes. I bought this filter in May but have not yet used it for a city scape. However, I did use it to shoot a customer's swimming pool and it was amazing. :).ROBERT B : I don't know anything about Bryan Peterson's latest video, but he has been promoting use of this filter for a while now. I heard him speak at a seminar last year (I think), or possibly saw a magazine article he had written, and ordered one of the filters to try out. It didn't arrive in time for my fall trips to SE Asia, but I did use it a couple of times in Cuba to enhance sunsets (which it did). I was not dissatisfied at all, but on the other hand I suspect the same effect could be created during post-processing in ACR, Photoshop or Lightroom. In conclusion, the filter does what he says, and if you like the look why not try it out?.KEN R : Yes it is ... FLW. NOT the FLD.KIRBY H : Sure is and works just as described. I orimarily use it sunset/rise settings. KEN R : If the video you're referring to is the video where he is shooting a cityscape just after sunset, then yes, the Hoya FLW. Not a FLD. MARK H : Yes, this is the one Bryan Peterson uses.SUSANA M : yes i believe it isKIM W : yes it is. In fact he uses it in a lot of his work.WESLEY C : Yes, I believe it is. It was his article on filters that caused me to buy it.LEON D : No is round. It took me a while to get it but check Adorama. Type on search the name and you will find itBILL L : I'm not sure of the specific video you are referring to, but if it is a video regarding Bryan's use of an FLW for dusk skyline shots, yes, this is the filter he uses.JEAN-CLAUDE V : Yes and its worth its $$. Great for sunsets and late evening shooting as he described in his London Bridge Video. Did buy two others as they are great for waterfalls giving you that silk water like effects. Hope that helps. JCVDAVID N : Carsten, Yes it is, and works as advertised.FLORIAN C : Sorry, II am not completely sure. I just checked my filter and it is a Hoya 77mm HMC FL-W on it but the word fluorescent is not in it. However, the color is the same as the color depicted on the webpage. Hope this helps. Look for "FL-W" that may be more specific. Good luck.FLORIAN C : Yes it is.

Buy this Hoya brand!

This is the filter I should have purchased to begin with. I tried to save money by a new, Old Stock FLW filter on eBay. It had a much lighter tint and indeed taking photos it did not provide much effect. I purchased this and immediately noticed the difference when I took it out of the boxb and the photos taken with it are exactly how an FLW filter should render an image.

Not Used Yet!

When I purchased this filter, it was my intention to use it in a creative ways for sunsets. I have yet to use it, but as usual Tiffen makes a first-class filter and I am sure it will serve my purpose well when I travel up east this fall.

Adds punch to sunsets.

Just shot the sky line of Manhattan from the Brooklyn side. I used the FLW and had great results. I let a friend borrow it to shoot the same scene. Next day she purchased the filter.

Great Filter

Professional photographer Bryan Peterson uses this filter to take sunset photos. He recommended the lens as part of his on-line photography class. I bought it from Adorama. . .used it. . .and have taken some really nice sunset pictures. I would recommend it to those who would want to kick their sunsets up a notch.

If you want to know the truth, I tried it last week during a sunset at the fair and I was very disappointed

If you want to know the truth, I tried it last week during a sunset at the fair and I was very disappointed - I do much much better without it - I was taking the word of Bryan Peterson - He says don't leave without it - Wrong ! I guess I'll have to play with it a little more ....

I've saw Brian Peterson use and promote this wonderful filter and so, I decided to give it a try. I was so impressed!!! Definitely worth the way (it was out of stock in my lens size). I would recommend it to anyone who wants their night time images to come alive. Magic!

BEAUTIFUL SUNSETS

I went to Freeport, LI to take some pictures and was totally blown away. I ended up staying for sunset and consider the scenic views I shot the best ever in my portfolio. The only problem I had was the long wait I had getting it from the time I ordered it. If you're into nature photography get this one.

Extra Punch for sunset/sunrise photos

Adds extra splash of color for sunset photos, would not recommend for all shots but if the light is right adds a nice touch of class to photos. Using the FLW you do not need to compensate for the filter as the filter will darken the scene just enough for the right scene brightness. Remember for great sunset photos try under exposing the scene to bring out the colors.

Just a great filter for those special shots

Be prepared to capture stunning images under any lighting conditions with the 77mm FLW Fluorescent Multi Coated Glass Filter. This high-quality filter is specifically designed to counteract the color shifts often associated with fluorescent lighting, which can be challenging for photographers. While these shifts may not be noticeable to the naked eye, they can significantly affect the color rendition in your photographs, resulting in images with unnatural purplish or greenish tones.

The 77mm FLW Fluorescent Multi Coated Glass Filter is equipped with Hoya's FL-D and FL-W corrective filters. The FL-D filter is expertly crafted to correct and restore a normal color balance when shooting under 'daylight' fluorescents, eliminating any purplish tone. On the other hand, the FL-W corrective filter is your perfect ally when dealing with 'warm white' fluorescents often found in industrial situations, effectively neutralizing any greenish tone.

What sets this filter apart is its multi-coated design. Each layer of coating is meticulously applied to reduce reflections, glare, and lens flare, resulting in improved image quality and contrast. This makes the 77mm FLW Fluorescent Multi Coated Glass Filter a versatile and effective tool for any photographer looking to enhance their indoor photography.

In conclusion, the 77mm FLW Fluorescent Multi Coated Glass Filter is a durable and affordable solution for photographers aiming to achieve more natural-looking results under fluorescent lighting. It's not just a filter, it's a tool for capturing the world as it truly is.
