The NiSi Explorer Collection 100x150mm Nano IR Medium Graduated Neutral Density Filter - GND8 (0.9) - 3 Stop is part of our Explorer Series for made for adventure. The filters feature a special glass hardening process that makes them double the strength of typical glass filter. The Explorer series are much less prone to accidental breakage and perfect for active photographers.&#149; Double the Strength of Typical Glass Filter&#149; B270 Glass&#149; IR Layers for Accurate Color&#149; Low Reflection Nano Coating&#149; Compatible with 100mm Filter Holder systemsThe NiSi Explorer Collection 100x150mm Nano IR Medium Graduated Neutral Density Filter - GND8 (0.9) - 3 Stop is a rectangular filter that helps to darken specific areas of an image, such as bright skies while allowing for a normal, unaffected exposure in the other regions of the image. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a medium-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas. A neutral density filter with a medium-edged line of transition is particularly useful for images that feature buildings, small mountains and other elements that protrude into high into the skyline. The transition zone of a medium is 40% smaller than a Soft GND and is wonderful for shooting at sunrise and sunset.NiSi GND filters do not affect the coloration of the image, offer a true to life color and are made from high-quality optical glass (not resin) with nano coating to prevent losing any single bit of detail. By using neutral density filter the camera is vulnerable to infrared light which will cast the unwanted red color to the photos when shooting at a small aperture. NiSi GND filters have an infrared protection coating layer to eliminate the infrared light through the lens to bring back the natural true to life color.The NiSi Explorer Collection is made from B270 tempered glass. It features the same Nano coating process as our optical glass filters. This filter is tempered and hardened making it much less prone to accidental damage but this does not mean it is unbreakable. After a long period of time, the hardening may decline. The NiSi 100mm filter system is great for cameras with lenses that have a standard filter thread from 49 mm to 95mm.  Are They Shatterproof  No. We introduced these filters for two reasons: To give you more options and to provide education in the market. B270 glass is a general purpose glass with good clarity and light transmission. It is used in many applications from high-quality touch screens and LCD covers to lens protection filters. B270 glass filters are a good quality glass filter which can be tempered or toughened, which has advantages. It is stronger than Optical quality glass and in most cases, it will survive drops from approx.. 1m onto concrete. However if dropped on a corner it may still chip and there is more risk of the lateral shock traveling through the glass and shattering it.The toughening process for this glass degrades over time. The time frame is impossible to measure and whilst it may never become an issue it is important for us to not make the claims of others. Whilst stronger to start with, over time the strength will degrade. This technology cannot be applied to high-quality optical glass, which is the reason they are not toughened. And for perspective, optical glass filters are very strong. Many of us have dropped a NiSi Optical Glass filter and it has survived with no damage. Is Image Quality Different  In most cases, you may not see a difference. NiSi Optical quality filters give the highest image quality possible which is important considering the optical performance of today's lenses and the high resolution of modern sensors. For most photographic applications the image quality of B270 glass filters will be very good. For those demanding the highest possible quality image, sharpness and detail we would strongly suggest choosing our Optical glass filters. Why Are They Less Expensive  B270 glass is a much more cost-effective glass to use that optical glass. For this reason, the cost of our Explorer filters is lower than our Optical quality glass filters. We decided to introduce these filters with a price that reflects the material used and not to over-inflate the claims or the price to the end user.

NiSi Graduated Filter

I'm using this with the Nisi holder system for the Sigma 14-24 on Sony A7RV and A7IV bodies. So far, I'm happy with the whole system.Optically, the grad gray is quite good, it's neutral in color, and the 3 stop gnd8 is right on for most of the landscape work I do.

A very good filter

First time using a graduated filter and like the results.  Makes a difference using quality products.

Practice, Practice, Practice

PROVIDES VERY SMOOTH GRADUATION FROM CLEAR TO DARK THAT WORKS REALLY WELL TO ENHANCE CLOUDS AND SKY. i WOULD RECOMEND THIS PRODUCT FOR LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHERS.

I am super excited with the NiSi filters.  I have used Lee filters for years, but really wanted better resolution and I definitely get that with these filters.  I shoot primarily with a Fuji GFX 50s and so far the results with these filters are worth the price.  They are not cheap, but the quality is definitely noticeable.  Attached is the first image I took using the 10 stop ND.  It performed amazing with giving me a little motion in the clouds.  Can't wait to use these filters more!
