Epson's UltraChrome HDR ink is a high-density resin-coated pigment ink formulation that features a three-level black ink technology - photo black, light black, and light light black. It also includes cyan, light cyan, vivid magenta, vivid light magenta, yellow, orange, and green. A matte black option is also available and can be auto-switched with photo black.
This new generation of UltraChrome HDR ink offers reduced graininess in skin tone areas, smoother tonal gradation from shadows to highlights, and excellent short-term color stability. It also boasts outstanding long-term lightfastness, highly accurate color control with neutral black and white, and high gloss levels on water-resistant prints.
The Stylus Pro 7900 and Stylus Pro 9900 are designed to be cost-effective, featuring two high-capacity ink cartridges (350 and 700ml) that contribute to a lower cost per milliliter of ink. These high-capacity ink cartridges also minimize the need for frequent replacements, promoting greater unattended printing.
These printers are equipped with Epson's MicroPiezo TFP (Thin Film Piezo) print head, which features 360 nozzles per inch for each of the ten active ink cartridges. Epson's Ink Repelling Coating for the print head and Automatic Ink Detection (AID) system work together to prevent downtime by minimizing and detecting nozzle clogging in advance, and eliminating paper waste used during the cleaning process.
Epson's AID technology uses a sensor near the print head that counts the electrical charges on the ink droplets as they are fired. If a lower than expected electrical charge is detected, it indicates insufficient ink was fired, triggering the print head cleaning process automatically.
Compared to current 8-color 24 inch and 44 inch printers, the Stylus Pro 7900 and Stylus Pro 9900 offer dramatically increased print speed. The Stylus Pro 7900 can complete an A1 (720x720dpi) sellable quality print on Epson's Premium Glossy Photo Paper in an impressive 5 minutes.
