Questions & Answers

BONNIE H : I have several se cameras include an Agfa B2 Cadet, Brownie Hawkeye flash, a Super90, a Marble (early Minolta), and a Kodak DAK. 120 is the current replacement for these which used either 620 or B2. Would Kodak TMAX 400 120 film work best?MARK M : I am under the impression that 120 and 620 film are physically different in size. So I don't think you can put 120 film in a camera that holds 620 film.LARRY S : The film size itself it fine, but you need to re-roll the film onto used 620 film spools (best if you use the original 620 backing paper). The spools are slightly different and 120 spools will not work in a 620 camera.
Brianna K : How many exposures does this film has?Dr Arvis H : 12 per rollTRAVIS B : 12 if you are shooting 6x6DENISE C : Each roll produces 12 exposures. There are five rolls in each pro-pack/box.MATTHEW K : It all depends on the camera that you are using. One roll of this film (120 TMY) will work for most medium format cameras used today. A 6x4.5 frame camera = 15-16 exposures on a roll. 6x6 =12 frames 6x7 = 10 frames 6x9 = 8 frames 6x12 = 6 frames 6x17 = 4 frames 6x24 = 3 frames x5 for the packALBERT A : 10 with my rz67REBECCA M : The amount of exposures depends on your medium format camera or the back you are using. With the format 4.5cmx6cm you have 16 exposure, with 6cmx6cm you have 12, with 6cmx7cm you have 10 and with 6cmx9cm you have 8 exposures per roll.BRUCE B : It depends on your camera. My camera makes 6x7 negatives; I get 10 exposures per roll. If your camera makes 6x6 negatives, I believe you get 12 exposures per roll.JOHN T : Lots of exposures - (:->) It really depends on your camera. The same film can be used in the following formats - 6x4.5, 6x6, 6x7, 6x8, 6x9 and 6x18 That means you get a range from 16 pictures per roll to 4 pictures per roll. It is very versatile film. The numbers refer to centimeters of negative size. 6x6 is a 2 inch square negative.KIM M : It's been awhile but I think there are 12 exposures per roll.MARTY R : The # of exposures will depend on the make and model of camera that you use.STEPHEN C : How many exposures you get depends on the format of the camera that you are using. A 6x6 camera will get 12 exposures. A camera in the 645 format will get 15 exposures.FRANCISCO A : 8 exposures for 6x9 format, 10 exposures for 6x7 format and 12 exposures for 6x6 formatFREDERICK M : If your mean 135 you can get 36 or 24 depending on the size of the roll. Some cameras can squeeze 37. On 120 rolls 6x6 will get you 12. Other size negitives (6x9) will be less. Check your user manual it will tell you. GEORGE L : It depends on your camera. If you have an old folder camera "6 x 9" it may only give you 8 exposures. A square format "6 x 6" like a Rolleiflex or Hasselblad will give you 12, while a "6 x 4.5" camera will give you 16. The numbers are the dimensions of the image in cm. The film itself is about 6 cm wide. Hope this helps. Good luck with your photography!ERIC W : Depends on your camera. You get 12 exposures from a 6x6 camera or 8 from a 6x9.

Now that I have a film camera, it's the first brand I looked for.MICHELLE S : I will be using this in a pinhole camera.KENNETH S : like it!ROMAN P : Beautiful fine grain and sharp film.HANNAH G : Good online reviews for crisp photos in multiple light settings.DENNIS D : It's my usualJAMES C : Great film!ELMER C : The only film that my Rolleiflex 2.8f will not chew out. All other 120 films I've used seem a bit too thin and my Rolleiflex's film-sensing mechanism doesn't always advance properly. A classic Rolleiflex deserves a true classic film. Keep the art alive!Karen D : my daughter's a photographerMark A : Fine quality, zero grain, excellent shadow detailKATHY O : For my new toy :)david b : love scanning this on a flatbed scannerNASSER A : Great in black and white even without using red filter, I love to shoot landscape with it.DARRELL P : Just great all around film for medium formatRichard S : Been shooting and processing B&W for 47 years... incredibly flexible film and always get amazing results.RICHARD V : quality of lightMARC M : kodak is still the go-to all around best filmJohn G : Tmax is a great film, one of the survivors. I buy from Adorama because they have a good price, fresh stock, and they know photography. I'm 72, I started buying from Adorama when I was 20, they're honest, and don't jerk you around.FRANK H : Experimenting with different film for school. Very nice for home developing and the home darkroom!MARK P : T-Max 400 is my films of choice, when situation calls for a faster BW film, because it is extremely sharp and rich film. I also like the thick, dimensionally-stable film base, which makes it easy to develop and store this film. The price is failry competitive as well.JOHN T : i still shoot film - why else ? I am very glad to see Kodak sticking in the film business.Scott P : Fast, fine-grained film to shoot in my Rolleiflex TLR.

A sharp, contrasty film

Beautiful film with wonderful contrast and tonality. It's incredibly sharp and has far less grain than other black and white films.

Contrasty. Hard to work with in the darkroom

It's a great film if you want nice contrasty scans for social media. There is a lot of flexibility in digital scans. However, I darkroom print and I find Kodak's B&W films more difficult to work with in the darkroom than other B&W film like Ilford Delta or Fuji Acros. T-Max doesn't handle highlights as well as them. I end up having to do a lot of dodging and burning to control the outcome. But digital scans look great for that documentary look with deep blacks and crisp whites, especially when pushed a stop.

Loyal user

Great Product. I have used this film before and have consistently gotten excellent results. The film is a fine grain, which is a definite plus when digitally scanned. I use this film in both 120 and 35mm sizes. I will definitely buy it again. Highly recommend.

Great black and white film

This is my go-to film when shooting in black and white. I know everyone likes the Kodak 400 Tri-X, but I'm partial to the TMAX because I think it has somewhat better contrast and it's more forgiving when you want to print images that were over- or under-exposed, compared to the Tri-X.

Good stuff

Does what it says- it?s the sharpest 400 speed black and white film out there. Buying 100? at a time is a great way to save a bit of $$, although maybe not quite as much as on some other films.

Reliable And Trusted Kodak TMax!

I experiment with a number of off brand films with various cameras primarily for artistic effects, but when I want to ensure that my film photographs turn out the best, using my developing processes, I rely on TMax films. Been using TMax films for over 20 years with almost always reliable results.

Great

By Ivan l.

Really good probably the best black and white film I've ever used

My absolute favorite B&W film!

By ERIC W.

I've used many Kodak, Ilford, and Fuji films. My first roll of T-Max nailed the look I was after! I wasn't expecting anything special after my flat, uninspiring runs with Tri-X, so to find a fast, affordable black and white Kodak film with just the right contrast, sharpness, and tones was a nice surprise. I shoot all kinds of cameras, and although the contrast gets a nice bump from a yellow filter, T-Max doesn't seem to need one as much as Tri-X or Ilford HP5. This film is great for class...

KODAK T-MAX 400 Professional Film is a continuous-tone panchromatic black-and-white negative film especially useful for photographing dimly lighted subjects or fast action, for extending flash distance range, and for photographing subjects that require good depth of field and fast shutter speeds with maximum image quality for the film speed. It is also useful for scientific and biomedical work, especially when fluorescence photography is required. It has high speed (ISO 400/27 Degree in most developers), very high sharpness, extremely fine grain, and high resolving power; it allows a high degree of enlargement.

A continuous tone, panchromatic black-and-white negative film that is especially useful for photographing dimly lighted subjects, fast action, extended range flash pictures, and subjects that require good depth of field. This film is highly useful for scientific and biomedical work, especially when fluorescence photography is required. Its high speed (EI 400), very high sharpness, extremely fine grain, and high resolving power enable a high degree of enlargement. You can expose it at a speed of EI 800 with normal processing, or at EI 1600 with push-processing to obtain excellent results. Applications include:
• Fluorescence Photomicrography
• Darkfield Photomicrography
• Photomicrography of live biological specimens

Kodak T-Max 400 TMY Features

  • KODAK T-GRAIN Emulsion that reshapes pebble-like crystals into a tabular form with more surface to catch light
  • Allows films with extremely fine grain to be made faster; high-speed films have finer grain. T-MAX Professional Films offer the best of both worlds: high speed and fine grain
  • Improved sharpness
  • Maintains subject detail in prints at higher degrees of magnification than conventional films
  • Expanded exposure latitude
  • Greater "forgiveness" with overexposure errors; quality prints from moderately under- or overexposed negatives
  • Better highlight separation
  • Improved reciprocity at long and short exposure times
  • Less compensation required than with conventional films
  • 120-size film coated on a thicker (4.7-mil) base than other black-and-white roll films
  • Improved dimensional stability; easier darkroom handling
  • Virtually no difference between the daylight and tungsten film speeds
  • No need to adjust exposure for different light sources
  • More responsive to zone-system development changes
  • Smaller time adjustments needed
  • No increase in processing time required for one-stop "push" with most developers
  • No need to segregate one-stop-pushed film from normally exposed film. You can mix normal exposures and one-stop-pushed exposures on the same roll. (You may want to use paper one-half grade higher in contrast to print one-stop-pushed exposures.)
  • Less development-time increase required for film pushed by two or more stops
  • Saves processing time
  • Processed in standard developers, including KODAK T-MAX Developer and KODAK T-MAX RS Developer and Replenisher
  • No need for a special developer. You can process T-MAX Professional Films with other black-and-white films
  • T-MAX 400 Professional Film--a versatile film for all-around use
  • Excellent for use under lighting conditions from bright sunlight to dim existing light
