Have used the Minolta Autometer IV for years — the precursor to this Kenko meter — and rely on its ease of use. It's designed to be held securely at virtually any angle while metering. It may look boxy like the Gossen and Sekonic competition but it's worlds apart in actual use. The swiveling head makes a huge difference. Unfortunately, the Kenko I received was about .8 stops off (as compared to my other meters including two recently serviced and calibrated Minoltas). Obviously, that's not acceptable by any standard. Please note that the Kenko is not adjustable (as in user-calibration), unlike the Minolta and others. Perhaps I was sent a bad sample, the only bad sample, but who wants to be responsible for sorting that out. So, a real disappointment.

I found a few quirks of using it like when changing to CINE mode (FPS) you have to hit the power button off/on and then you can use CINE mode, etc....same with switching it back to Time. (Unless I missed something in the manual.) After that all was smooth.

I don't have much experience with other brands. This works great for me. Pretty rugged, too.

The design was bought from the loss of Konica Minolta. THis meter is a duplicate of the IV-F in every way. The other reviewer is wrong, all the same accessory viewers and parts are available, but not cheaply, for certain. It can do accumulative reads, mixed light source reads, and has interdependent redundancy selective uses. Go for it with full confidence. Excellent instrument!

Take your photography to the next level with the KENKO KFM-1100 Professional Ambient & Flash Light Meter, a user-friendly, precision instrument designed for both ambient and flash light readings. This hand-held light meter is equipped with a minimalist design featuring clearly marked buttons, making it intuitive and quick to master.
The KFM-1100's ergonomic design fits comfortably in your hand, allowing you to focus on your subject rather than your equipment. Its large, easy-to-read LCD display presents measurements in F number format with large numbers in 1/10 stop increments, and a pointer scale across the top of the LCD display shows more common 1/2 stop increments.
This versatile light meter is sensitive enough to measure ambient light for a shutter speed range from 30 minutes to 1/8000 of a second. In Cine mode, it can read frame-rates from 8 to 128 frames per second, making it a valuable tool for videographers as well as photographers.
For flash measurements, the KFM-1100 offers modes to trigger the flash using a sync-cord or set to non-sync cord for manual flash triggering. The aperture range that can be displayed is from f/1.0 to f/128, providing a wide range of lighting options.
The KFM-1100 also features an "Analyze" function, perfect for mixed flash/ambient lighting situations. This function determines the ratio of ambient to flash light in a scene, a handy feature when a flash is used to illuminate shadowed areas left by natural light.
The meter's "Calculation" function can average stored measurements, a useful feature for reflected light measurements to capture highlight or shadow detail more accurately. The KFM-1100 also offers two memory "slots" to store previous measurements that can be recalled for reference or averaging.
In summary, the KENKO KFM-1100 Professional Ambient & Flash Light Meter is a versatile, easy-to-use tool designed to help photographers and videographers achieve the perfect lighting for their shots.
