This 24/1.8S a useful lens made by Nikon in China. It is not in the same class as the excellent 50mm/1.8S made in Thailand. This starts with attaching the lens to my Z7 - scratchy and hard. This I experienced with other Chinese made Nikon lenses as well. They may use a different material for the Cr-coating or their tolerances are off. Looking at test results: The lens was very good at the left side of the landscape pictures. The right side was not as good and borderline at or below MTF data. Perhaps I did run a bunch of pictures through my workflow and realized that those are all very good after PS CC2020! Compared to the other excellent lens 24-70/2.8S made in Japan at 2.8 this lens is about equal after workflow ( CC PS 2020 0.6 100% at ISO 64). Summary still a very good lens to take good pictures with, but not as good as the 50/1.8S which cost half. The price is on the high side and I returned it sticking to the excellent 24-70 2.8S. The old AFS 20mm 1.8 is as good on the FTZ.

This is really a sharp lens, its sharp from edge to edge. I use this lens on my Z6 and I love the images I produce with this lens. I shoot weddings and lighting is always an issue. I’m also a natural light shooter. So, whenever I can I don’t use flashes and I like to shoot with fast glass and wide open. This lens allows me to shoot the way I like. While this 24mm is only an F1.8 lens its honestly better than my old F1.4 24mm. It’s sharper, fast and produces better color. If 24mm is a focal length that you use, then you can’t go wrong with this lens. Nice Job Nikon.

I just tested my new Nikkor Z 24mm f/1.8 S lens in San Diego, California's Balboa Park. The optics of this lens are excellent. The lens exhibits superior contrast, color, and unnoticeable horizontal and vertical distortion. At the extreme apertures, f/1.8 and f/16, performance is equally consistent. The six photos below demonstrate the lens's performance at various apertures.

Excellent Wide Angle Optics
By Scripps23
I just tested my new Nikkor Z 24mm f/1.8 S lens in San Diego, California's Balboa Park. The optics of this lens are excellent. The lens exhibits superior contrast, color, and unnoticeable horizontal and vertical distortion. At the extreme apertures, f/1.8 and f/16, performance is equally consistent. The six photos below demonstrate the lens's performance at various apertures.
Immersive storytelling at its best.
Tell incredible immersive stories with the scene-setting NIKKOR Z 24mm f/1.8 S, an incredibly bright and sharp wide-angle prime lens optimized for the revolutionary light-gathering capability of Nikon's breakthrough Z mount. Capture the serenity of a scenic vista or the beautiful environmental context of a cherished portrait. The NIKKOR Z 24mm f/1.8 S handles wide-angle applications with gorgeous resolution throughout the entire frame and naturally soft bokeh. Ideal for landscapes, cityscapes, environmental portraits, architecture and group shots with a bright, fast f/1.8 aperture that makes it extremely versatile in low light. It's also a staple for video applications, covering essential establishing shots and much more.
S-Line
NIKKOR quality at its absolute best.
At the top of the ever-expanding NIKKOR Z lens lineup, S-Line lenses push Nikon's tradition of optical excellence and innovation to unprecedented new heights. Superior performance and resolution. Sophisticated features and operability. Specialized technologies and reliability enhancements. All while taking full advantage of the monumental Nikon Z mount and adhering to the strictest image quality and build standards.
Mesmerizing, Distortion-free Wide Shots
Capture so much more of a scene, with clarity and sharpness throughout the entire frame. 24mm is well-regarded as an exceptional focal length for establishing expansive views, with or without subjects, and the NIKKOR Z 24mm f/1.8 S's ability to produce edge to edge sharpness, even at its widest aperture, make it invaluable for wide-angle applications, even in low light.
Captivating Establishing Shots and More
As a video lens, the NIKKOR Z 24mm f/1.8 S shines as a go-to for incredibly steady handheld establishing shots, as well as exquisitely composed environmental wide shots and interviews with a sense of place. It's superb aperture control delivers smooth exposure changes without the impression of 'stepping' when transitioning from interior to exterior during the same shot.
Superior Optical Performance
Comprehensive Distortion Control
An Extra-low Dispersion (ED) element corrects chromatic aberrations (optical color defects). Nano Crystal Coat (N) virtually eliminates flare, ghosting and coma. And optical advancements of the Z mount and S-Line render point-light sources sharper than ever without the usual diamond-shaped distortion-perfect for environmental portraits, nightscapes and more.
Edge-to-Edge Brightness
One of the many advantages of the larger Z mount is its ability to retain even illumination, especially at the corners of the frame. This results in bright, even exposures with minimal vignetting.
Multi-Focus System
Finely detailed high resolution photography can sometimes be susceptible to lens aberrations, such as color fringing, especially at close ranges. The NIKKOR Z 24mm f/1.8 S incorporates an all-new multi-focusing system, consisting of two AF drive units precisely synchronized to deliver fast, accurate autofocusing and drastically reduce aberrations across the entire zoom range.
Enhanced Build and Reliability
S-Line features and quality control
Unwavering Autofocus
Powered by an ultra-quiet stepping motor and enhanced by the additional light gathered by the Z Mount, focusing is fast, silent and accurate. Great for stills; even better for video.
Dust and Drip Resistant
Extensively sealed to keep dust and moisture out, especially around all moving parts of the lens barrel, for worry-free durability.
Dual Detect 5 Axis VR
Uses the Z cameras' superior in-camera image stabilization system for up to 5 stops of pitch, roll, yaw, X and Y shake correction. Additional electronic VR (e-VR) available during video capture.
Next-Generation Z Design and Optics
Designed and optimized to take full advantage of the Z system's larger mount, Z lenses gather substantially more light, providing even illumination and improved sharpness from the center of the frame to the far edges. Autofocusing is fast and quiet. Video recording is clean and smooth with highly minimized focus breathing and reduced wobbling. Intuitive on-lens controls can be customized to your individual shooting style and so much more. Z lenses are designed with a sense of consistency that combines reliability and beauty with next-dimension optical performance for complete freedom in image creation.
Technology
Stepping Motor
NIKKOR Z lenses use a stepping motor for fast, accurate, smooth, quiet autofocus with reduced wobbling. This quiet drive system makes the lenses ideal for use when shooting video.
Electromagnetic Diaphragm Mechanism
An electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism in the lens barrel provides highly accurate electronic diaphragm or aperture blade control when using auto exposure during continuous shooting. With conventional D/G type lenses, the diaphragm blades are operated by mechanical linkage levers.
ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass
An optical glass developed by Nikon that is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.
Nano Crystal Coat
An anti-reflective coating developed by Nikon that virtually eliminates internal lens element reflections across a wide range of wavelengths. Nano Crystal Coat solves ghost effects caused by red light and effectively reduces ghost and flare caused by light entering the lens diagonally.
Aspherical Lens
A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface. Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size. Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture. They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements necessary. Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the center of the lens.
Super Integrated Coating
Nikon Super Integrated Coating is Nikon's term for its multilayer coating of the optical elements in NIKKOR lenses.
