I use this with my Olympus E-M5 camera and it works perfectly with the flash mounted on the camera or off. I often handhold the flash just off camera to shoot macro's. It's also a perfect general use flash with a smaller footprint than regular flashes. It suits the Micro Four Thirds form factor.

I'm still learning how to use the flash. The manual could be a little more detailed and provide more guidance, but my learning is coming by experience. Which to me is the best way to learn. I'm using this with my E-620 and the two are a match made in heaven. I see a huge difference in my photos. I really wanted the FL-50R but I couldn't justify the price, so thought I would start out with the FL-36R. I do not regret my choice one bit.

a (relatively) compact size that doesn't overbalance my (relatively) small e-520.

I have used this flash outdoors and indoors, night and day, and it has performed beautifully. With the swivel head and the adjustable flash intensity, this unit can be adaptable to just about any situation. Well worth the very reasonable price.

Use it anywhere i need a flash, the incorporayed flash of my olympus e-volt 500 just doesn't have the output i need in some circonstances.Just to bad it takes some time (5-7 sec) to recycle, especially when photographing kid's and animals.

Just getting more serious with DLSR and needed a flash unit to do more creative stuff with. This unit is half the price of the FL-50 and provides a full TTL capability when paired with an Olympus E series DSLR. That means you can set your flash on a separate tripod to get a wide range of fill and mood affects that you cannot get on a normal mounted flash. Great unit. Recycle times get a bit long towards ewnd of battery life. While you supposedly get 120+ flashes from 2 AA batteries, after 60 hits you will probably get annoyed with the long recovery cycle. I change when I sense the recovery is too slow. I imagine an ecologist might see that as a problem, so I may look at rechargable pack sometime soon. TTL Mode works well. I am happy with the cost and the flexibility of this unit.

I bought this flash as a light weight and compact alternative to my other FL50-R flash. In this application it is great and although much slower to recycle than the FL50 series flashes is perfect for traveling or when a budget doesnt stretch to the FL50 models. Off camera use is great and the Oly flash interface and ease of setting ajustment is at least on par or better than other brands I have used.

This was my first flash purchase for my Olympus E-300. It obviously blows away the pop-up flash hands-down. I bought it used from Adorama because the Olympus flashes are usually expensive and I got a great price on a flash that you'd never know was even used. It works great in very low-light conditions and gives very professional results. It is even good at filling-in light in brighter conditions. I typically took only natural-light photos, but this flash has helped a lot more than I thought. It does tend to eat though rechargeable batteries quickly though, so be wary to have enough for a photo shoot. It also REALLY speeds up focusing in low-light because of the infrared light on the flash that activates when auto-focusing the camera. (That was a big drawback using the pop-up flash because it didn't want to focus.) This particular flash is wireless also, but I didn't know how Olympus wireless flashes worked. After reading the manual, I learned my E-300 doesn't support wireless flashes, so that feature isn't usable. That's my bad though for not knowing. At least it is there though if I ever upgrade my camera. Pro cameras are always notorious for needing their own particular accessories and Olympus is no different. You can get "generic" flashes or a flash designed for a Nikon or Cannon and they may or may not fit in the hot-shoe and "work". A functional flash is very different from a fully-functional flash and you will be a LOT happier in the long run if you pony up the money for an Olympus brand flash than cheap out on a generic flash. I know I'm glad I got the FL-36R. Lastly, I'm not 100% sure what all the differences are between the FL-36 and the FL-50 flashes, but for the money, the FL-36 works great and is everything I need it to be. I don't see what I would have really needed the FL-50 for and am glad I saved the money. I think the only REAL advantage might be that the FL-50 can use its own larger rechargeable battery pack instead of needing AA batteries. But, AA batteries are a lot cheaper than the battery packs. It's more convenient, but in my mind not worth the hundreds of dollar difference.

Does what you'd expect. NOTE: The Flash stand which was supposed to be included was missing. This was not an issue for me right now as I am using it with an E-510 which doesn't support wireless, but if you're looking to utilize that functionality, the stand is important. I recommend that you check your box for all parts before leaving the store.

For the price this is a great flash with a ton of great features. But keep lots of batteries on hand this flash burns them up fast! With a fresh set of batteries the refresh time is slow but acceptable but it doesn't take to many flashes for the refrest time to get painfully slow. For normal day-to-day use this is a great flash. I used it at a wedding reception and the refresh was to slow.

The built-n flash unit not powerful enough. This unit has the right amount of "umph" and its sync is great.

The E-30 bears some resemblance to Olympus’ pro-level E-3 but combines some of the E-520 ‘s consumer-friendly features. In-body mechanical image stabilization ensures every Four Thirds system lens you attach is stabilized, but you must remember to turn it on. The new camera has...
