The lensbaby is a great lens to play with. You will never duplicate the exact same photo with this lens. Its also difficult to use quickly. However, its also a lens that can produce some very amazing and interesting pictures.

I work as a photojournalist and I've used this lens on a half dozen shoots since buying it (the Lensbabies 2.0) here at Adorama about two weeks ago. I use it indoors and outside - I've yet to change the aperture disc, so it's always f2 and super blurry around the edges - like 80-85% of the image is blurry, but sharp in the sweet spot. It excels at creating dramatic tension in the photograph (ok, it's sort of gimmicky, a useful tool nonetheless) - but the focus process is quite experimental, even unpredictable - I'm constantly working and twisting the lens to max the effect and find and re-find the focus spot; it can be tricky - changing the aperture disc would help here to increase the depth of field. On the other hand, it's very fast at f2. It weighs next to nothing and attaches easily to my D7000, and it meters automatically on Aperture Priority - though somewhat erratically at times. For instance, backlit scenes will trick it out and I'll have to switch to Manual to compensate - not a big deal. It's a handy 50mm focal length, or 75mm with the aps sized sensor on the D7000 - but there are times when a wide angle would be nice; indoors you can be too on top of things if the room is small. There is a wide-angle and tele kit for this lens I'll probably get next. The 50mm lensbabies 2.0 is good for portraits, landscapes, interiors, still life, candids, street photography. I ditched my regular 50mm for it - it's super light, but with durable metal and vinyl(?) parts. I'm finding it an indispensable tool (along with my Nikon 18-200mm VR and 70-200mm f2.8 VR) and the most fun lens to use at the moment.

This is almost a poor man's perspective control lens. It's fantastic to use, opening your eyes to new possibilities.

As soon as received the Lens baby 2.0, I had to play with it. I walked to my neighbors place to take pictures of their older car. It was like a new toy.

Lensbabies are great to use when you want to add some artistic blur to your photos. They are easy to use once you get acquainted with the finger controlled focus and they are super light. I look forward to using mine on certain situations like a bridal or kids portraits.
