About Sony HVR-DR60 60GB Hard Disk Recording Unit - SKU#1504402

Sony HVR-DR60 HDV Hard Disk Recorder.

This lightweight and portable hard disk drive (HDD) recording unit is ideally suited for use with the new HVR-V1U HDV camcorder. Easily connected to a compatible camcorder via its i.LINK interface, the HVR-DR60 offers videographers the ability to record onto both tape and the hard disk drive simultaneously an ideal hybrid recording solution for your customers providing approximately 4.5 hours of continuous HDV/DVCAM/DV stream recording.

The compact HVR-DR60 uses a 60GB, 1.8 inch hard disk drive and weighs a mere 8 ounces (without battery), adding little weight for the cameraman to bear. Using the common FAT32 file system and adopting three recording formats, .m2t (MPEG2 Transport Stream based) file format for HDV recordings and AVI (Type 1) as well as RAW DV for standard definition DVCAM/DV recording, material recorded with the HVR-DR60 can be utilized by a wide variety of non-linear editing systems.

The HVR-DR60 provides the choice of video mode and computer mode operation. The video mode (AV/C) enables users to record material in response to REC START and STOP commands from a camcorder with External Record capability via its i.LINK connection.

Additionally, material recorded using these camcorders can be viewed on the camcorders viewfinder, or LCD panel (if so equipped). The computer mode (SBP2) allows high-speed file transfers of both HD and SD material directly to a PC or laptop using the i.LINK interface.

The HVR-DR60 is designed for the on-the-go professional. Incorporating HDD Smart Protection, which is composed of 3G sensors, shock absorbers, and buffer memory, data on the hard disk drive is protected when the unit is inadvertently dropped from heights up to 100cm. 3G sensors detect if the unit is being dropped and automatically retracts the HDD head and switches the unit off.

Shock absorbers are also used to physically protect the hardware from damage due to knocks and dropping, and the buffer memory of up to 14 seconds provides smooth continuous recording in the event of dropping or power interruption.

The HVR-DR60 is designed to be totally integrated with the new HVR-V1U camcorder. When used together the HVR-V1U, has a special status check option, which delivers current status, remaining battery life, remaining hard disk recording capacity, and other status indicators, for the HVR-DR60 directly viewable on the camcorder's viewfinder and LCD panel. When used with the HVR-V1U, the HVR-DR60 can also support tapeless recording.

The HVR-DR60 easily attaches to the HVR-V1U camcorder via a supplied shoe adaptor and short i.LINK cable, Using Sony's L series batteries (the same as those used with the HVR-V1U, HVR-Z1U, and DSR-PD170), the HVR-DR60 can be operated for up to 4.5 hours using the NP-F570, and up to 13.5 hours with the NP-F970 battery.
