Great lens from Tamron

This is a great wide angle zoom from Tamron. The quality is spot on and I use this thing almost everyday with little signs of any wear. The distortion is also very minimal and shots are crystal clear.

Competes well with name brands

The tamron 17-35mm is a great quality lens, although many may argue canon is better, I believe this lens competes well, especially considering its price.

Great comapct wide lens!

Great wide lens. My favorite thing about this lens is the size. It?s so compact and easy to carry around. I?ve used the tamron 16-35 and wasn?t a fan because it felt bulky with my ftz adapter that i have to use on my nikon Z6. The one thing I?m not a huge fan of is the autofocus. It does the job, i just don?t think I?m quite used to it yet.

Great lens, almost perfect hiking lens

Lens is sharp, very sharp in center throughout focal range. Edges are less sharp at both ends (17mm and 35mm), but get very sharp in the middle. Colors are great. Build is very nice even though plastic. Light weight and solid. Focus is good (not great), and tap-in is really a nice thing to have an use because the lens can have some front or back focus that can be corrected with the tap-in console. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because even though it's a good value performance wise, the absence of a focus distance window and especially VC are just unacceptable even at this price range.

Tamron wide angle lens

So far I am really liking this lens. The color capture has been great. The lack of VC has not been an issue. I hope to continue with the great results.

Good wide-angle lens

I waited a long time after this lens was released, and regret that I did. The photos produced (using a Nikon D750 and this lens) are great. I use this lens mostly for landscape, and therefore shoot it at f/8. As such, the sharpness edge to edge is wonderful. No focus issues. I am happy to recommend this lens.

Meets Expectations

This is the best wide angle lens I have tried so far. Reasonably sharp from corner to corner throughout the focus range, even wide open. Stopped down a couple of f-stops and the sharpness improves. Well constructed, and the weather seals are a big plus.

Cool Lens

I purchased this lens based on favorable reviews, and have been pleasantly surprised. I agree with most of the reviews - the lens is not heavy, feels pretty solid, has a good feel/grip. It attaches to my D610 nice, not too tight, and releases easily. I like that Tamron made it a 77mm lens so my filters can work with my 24-70. I find it to be slower to focus than my other lenses, but that's not a real problem, images are sharp. The lens hood is large I suppose by necessity, but not obnoxious. I think distortion at the wide end can be minimized with proper technique; sounds correctable in post, but I haven't spent much time with that. I'm looking forward to using this on a trip to Death Valley and other parks this spring. I'm still getting used to WA, it's a different animal. I don't see anything really negative about this lens, it's fun to use, and you learn to see differently thru it.

Awesome light lens for my A7III

I don’t tend to use a lot of wide angle so I couldn’t justify getting the GM for my A7III. But this met my needs for casual shooting or cases where I want something wider than usual. AF is really effective on my Sony via an MC-11 adapter

Sharp and lightweight! What else could you ask for?

I just purchased this lens and took it on vacation. I used it daily for landscape shots as well as some family photos on the beach at sunset. I am extremely pleased with it! Even heavily cropped, my photos are tack sharp. I used it mounted to my Nikon D750. This is my first experience with a Tamron. It probably won't be my last! I highly recommend this lens.

Above expectation

I needed something wider than my 24-70 and did not want to carry around another heavy lens. This lens is surprisingly lightweight, solidly made, and easy to use. On my full-frame Nikon, the performance is outstanding with respect ro sharpness, color saturation and bokeh. Don't forget a good polarizer if you want to shoot landscapes. For the money, this lens is an outstanding value. I already have the Tamron 24-70/2.8 and 70-200/2.8 G2 lenses. This one is another hit out of the park by Tamron.

Above and beyond.

This lens is an absolute stunner, especially for the price. It is a perfect travel lens due to the weight, size and capabilities. Also great for photographing people and street. I ordered mine online and it arrived the next day. If you’ve been looking for the right ultra wide, this is it.

Nice light weight lens

I bought this for a light weight wide zone and it has 77mm front thread so filters are easy to get. Took my first pictures with it at air show .

Shock & Awe

I was on my way to purchase the Nikon 16-35 f/4 when this little darling showed up as a new item in stock for about half of the Nikon lens. It is 17 mm vs 16 mm of the Nikon, but at 17 mm, you get f/2.8. I was a little skeptical of the lens, not expecting high IQ from the lens, but man was I wrong. This little Tamron definitely does the job. The build is a little light, it's not quite as well sealed as the Nikon, and there's more plastic, but that comes with the territory for a less expensive lens. But it, try it, LOVE it!

Great so far!

No complaints after playing with it a few days. Can’t comment n sharpness yet since I haven’t really pixel peeped but what I see so far in image quality is very good. Love the small size and build quality.

Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di OSD Lens

The new Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di OSD ultra wide-angle lens (Model A037) is designed to combine superb image quality with maximum portability. With a compact body weighing 460 grams and a filter diameter of 77mm, it can capture more of the world in amazing detail without adding unnecessary bulk to your camera bag. As part of Tamron’s “Digitally Integrated” (DI) lens series, it uses specialized glass elements to solve problems caused by conventional wide-angle lenses, particularly axial chromatic aberrations and distortions, to deliver more optimized color renditions, accurate lighting, and high levels of sharpness and contrast across the entire frame. It also utilizes new optical groupings and anti-reflection coatings to reduce ghosting and flare when shooting in bright situations. Its versatile focal length of 17-35mm covers a wide range of subjects and niches, from professional landscape photography to snapshot photography. The lens’ minimum dbject Distance of 11 inches (0.28m) and maximum aperture of f/2.8 allows for magnificent close-ups with stunning background blur, and the new OSD (Optimized Silent Drive) ensures silent and highly responsive AF. With advanced fluorine coating and leak-proof seals, it’s protected from dust, dirt, water, and oil whenever you shoot outdoors.

Wide-angle photography just got easier

The 17-35mm F/2.8-4 Di OSD (Model A037) is an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens that combines superb image quality with outstanding portability as the lightest and smallest size in its class.* It uses four LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements to minimize axial chromatic aberrations. And with two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lenses it can not only provide the sharpness and contrast demanded by high-end lenses, it can also handle peripheral point image reproducibility.

Wide-angle photography just got easier

Reducing reflection and controlling ghosting!

Furthermore, it has repeatedly gone through our proprietary ghosting analysis simulation employed to resist backlighting problems from strong light sources to which wide-angle lenses are often subjected. Along with an enhanced high level optical construction, the lens has BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating highly effective in reducing reflection and controlling ghosting and flare.

The Minimum Object Distance

The Minimum Object Distance (MOD) for the entire zoom range is a short 0.28m (11 in), so you can still enjoy the background blurring effect when shooting full open aperture and close-up with this ultra-wide-angle zoom. The Model A037 also has a circular aperture that gives you beautiful circular bokeh.

The Minimum Object Distance

Optimized Silent Drive

The AF drive employs a newly developed OSD (Optimized Silent Drive) to ensure silent operation. Upgraded and optimized for even further reduction in drive noise, this drive allows the lens to be used to your heart's content in all situations where silence is required. With its greatly enhanced quality and speed, the new outstanding AF performance and tracking capabilities mean you never have to worry about missing a shot even when focusing on moving subjects.

Optimized Silent Drive

. High-performance imaging for shooting vast landscapes in sharp detail
The optical construction (15 elements in 10 groups) uses four LD (Low Dispersion) lens elementsto minimize axial chromatic aberrations that can occur with ultra-wide-angle zoom lenses. With two properly positioned GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lenses, distortion and other aberration can be satisfactorily corrected as well.

Being the smallest and lightest in its class and dedicated to high quality imaging, the engineers have paid particular attention to size. The lens has also been carefully designed to allow peripheral point image reproducibility and thereby facilitate a high degree of sharpness and contrast.

The Minimum Object Distance (MOD) for the entire zoom range is a short 11 in., so background blurring is still possible when opening the aperture and approaching the subject close-up with this ultra-wide-angle zoom.

Advanced coating technology along with proprietary ghosting analysis simulation technology enabled the high level of backlighting control
Resistance to backlighting is extremely important for wide-angle lenses as they are often subjected to strong light sources. The Model A037 has a high level optical construction that repeatedly employs comprehensive ghosting analysis simulation. The BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating is highly effective in reducing reflection, allowing ghosting and flare throughout the entire zoom range to be controlled.

OSD (Optimized Silent Drive) enables both excellent AF speed and drive noise reduction
The AF drive system employs an OSD (Optimized Silent Drive) to ensure quiet operation. Through the innovative optimization of the system that includes AF system speed reduction gear, Tamron could greatly reduce the drive noise in comparison to conventional AF types with built-in DC motors. AF performance and speed have also been vastly improved. Thus, even if silence is required, AF can be employed without having to worry at all about noise creation. The Model A037 can provide superlative AF precision for exact focus even when shooting moving objects, as well as outstanding trackability.

Circular aperture to produce a smooth-edged bokeh
A 7-blade diaphragm is configured to retain a smooth, circular-shaped aperture opening even when stopped down by two stops from the wide-open aperture. This produces a smooth-edged bokeh in background light spots and avoids rugged aperture geometry.

Moisture-Resistant Construction
Seals are located at the lens mount area and other critical locations to prevent infiltration of moisture and/or rain drops to provide Moisture-Resistant Construction. This feature affords an additional layer of protection when shooting outdoors under adverse weather conditions.

Fluorine Coating
The surface of the front element is coated with a protective fluorine compound that has excellent water- and oil-repellant qualities. The front surface is easier to wipe clean and is less vulnerable to the damaging effects of dirt, dust, moisture or oily fingerprints, allowing for much easier maintenance. The coating also provides an enhanced level of durability, and will sustain its effectiveness for years.

Compatible with TAMRON TAP-in ConsoleTM, an optional accessory
The new A037 is compatible with the optional TAMRON TAP-in Console, an optional accessory product that provides a USB connection to a personal computer, enabling users to easily update a lens's firmware as well as customize features including fine adjustments to the AF.
