As any other Nikon products, this remote works great. I've been using it for only one month and so far, I have nothing wrong to report. Best thing, I found it refurbished for less. Always good to save a few bucks.

I am using this to do time lapse photography for insertion into high school sports videos. I can take a whole game down to 2 minutes and the kids love it.

Aftermarket intervalometers that are identical to the MH-36 can be had for $20 on ebay.

Would have giving it 4 stars but it doesn't turn off. No off switch. You have to remove the batteries. Sometimes I get a little confused trying to navigate through the funtions but it gets job done for me and has worked very well so far.

You have to learn how to use it, but practicing with it makes it easier to use. I just wish you did not have to remove the batteries to turn it off. A good product.

The Nikon MC-36 Multi-function Remote is particularly useful when doing all the timed exposures.

If you are willing to spend the amount of money Nikon is asking, this is a pretty good device. I use it as a basic trigger and I frequently use the automatic timer for exposures longer than 30 seconds. There is no on/off switch, but the AAA batteries seem to last a very long time if you keep it "locked" when not in use. It has a little LED that flashes as the second count down, but it would be nice if there was some more feedback as to how long remaining on the exposure. If I have the shutter open for an hour, or some other long duration, I also have to check my watch to avoid picking the unit up to turn on the LCD back light and display the remaining time. It does take a bit to figure out all the setup possibilities, but it is not too hard once you get the hang of it. My only real complaint is the cable. I have had mine for about 5 years and after about 2 the cable end that attaches to the camera split open. There is a reinforcement, but it is not good enough. It is also very hard to secure the cable to the camera. I have small hands, but it is very hard to get the thread on the locking ring to connect.

This is a must have for vibration free macro/night photography, long exposure photographs.

Works just fine, but they even warn you not to drop it. I padded mine w/ rubber baby buggy bumpers.

I have not tried all of the features and use it mostly as a remote release which works flawlessly and requires no battery. However, I think the design could be improved to make it easier to screw and unscrew the cord from the camera body.

Works great BUT no on/off switch. You have to take out the batteries when not in use other wise they will drain out. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

I bought this product approximately eight months ago. Many of the features it offers are redundant if you already own a D3. Additionally, the LED display is far to dim and small. The manual is not clearly written, and the price Nikon charges for this product is excessive. Save your money and by the less expensive model. For those of us who already made the mistake of purchasing this accessory the is a U-tube video that will give the guidance that Nikon does not.

I can't imagine a poorer description of this intervalometer when compared to the internal programming available in the camera than the previous reviewers "slight advantage". This is a far cry from the internal option and has MANY advantages over it. I've tried knock off products and none compate to the MC-36. A staple for any camera bag.

A lot of the functionality of this widget is already available within the camera. If you do a lot of star trails, and the like, it is slightly easier to use this device, but then you lose the ability to use the GPS-1.

Ease of setting up and using for time lapse. I was up and running without reading the manual. On the D3 threading the retainning nut on is a pain, so I don't, works fine. Would have been even better if it was wireless.

I do a lot of low light and night photography. The ability to control when the releaase occurs and delay exposure till vibration dies down were most helpful. The interverlometer function was something I always wanted to add. Its flexibility for shooting needs is excellent. I do appreciate the control display backlight feature for night photography. Nikon has a wireless release for about the same price, but it lacks the MC-36's versatility. Nikon could take it to the next level by adding the wireless capability to the MC-36 multifunction release.

I haven't quite figured out how to set the controls since I just got it. However, I was able to use it on manual mode immediately. It beeps for every second that goes by. At first I thought this was annoying but when I was using it in the dark I was grateful for the beeps because they helped me keep track of the time.

I love to shoot under very low light and have the camera and lense to accomplish that. I had a problem shaking the tripod/camera, but no longer. It is just fun to be able to get such great shots in low light.

Although I haven't fully tested the timer release function, it does work just fine as a remote release but for that price it should be wireless. In the bulb setting the seconds are counted with an audible sound, so you can count to yourself if in a dark location rather than look at the display. However, it would be nice to be able to enter a time in and have the shutter close automatically when that time is reached just like the camera does. My D200 can only be set to a max of 30 seconds so it would be great to be able to enter 45 seconds and hit the release and have the shutter stay open for 45 seconds and then close. The locking feature for the shutter release is too easy to engage. If your finger even slightly moves forward when tripping the shutter release button, it is moved forward into the locked position and the shutter locks open.

I went to Norway and was photographing in cold weather. This device is small and light to pack. The illuminated screen is a nice idea but useless because the buttons don't light up. At night the buttons are not tactile enough to find and use... especially when your hand are cold. The battery cover slipped right off probably from the parts contracting in the cold weather. This remote kept on functioning in weather as cold as -15 celcius for periods as long as 5 hours! I used alkaline batteries.

I'll use this for long exposure macro, infrared and low light photography. Also will use for time lapse photography. It's a pretty cool and versatile little device. I had to go through quite a bit of trial and error to get it to act as I expected. The manual could use a lot of improvement. Figuring out basics like that the interval isn't calculated from the end of the prior shot but the start of the prior shot made for some pretty amusing confusion. Once I understood some principles though it works well. My one major criticism is that you can't turn it off. For an expensive item that most people will only use on occasion it seems really odd that they designed it so that there is a continuous battery drain (to feed the lcd) when not in use. I shouldn't have to remove the batteries in between uses to minimize battery drain.

Handy bit of kit, but a bit bulky for what it is, cable needs to be longer for what I use it for and the buttons seem weak, but works well and does what it says it will.

The MC-36 Multi-Function Remote Cord (33.5 in.) provides a simple trigger function and can activate the bulb function on certain Nikon SLR cameras.
Functions as a timer remote and can be programmed to function as an intervalometer.
Compatible with Nikon cameras that have a 10 Pin Remote Connector. (currently D200, D3, D300, D300S, D3S, D3X, D700)
