Useless for watching movies. Cannot disable Automatic Gain Control -AGC of source signal. Dialogue volume OK but when characters stop talking volume drops to total silence eliminating all critical background sounds and any mood music. Destroys suspension of disbelief pulling viewer out of movie. Volume continuely goes up and down ruining and wasting all the effort and work by the sound engineer. Gone back to my WIRED Sennheiser headphones.

I felt I could've been more satisfied if I returned them and tried a different model or brand, but I didn't for some reason. The main reason I bought a pair of $400 headphones was for the best ANC. These were good but I felt like no matter the adjustments available, the headband did not suit my head. Which is odd because my head is pretty average if not a bit on the wide side. Perhaps they were not engineered with female heads in mind..? So the ANC barely did anything for me and maybe even got progressively worse over time. I also didn't like that there's only two modes, transparency and ANC. Out of the box the speaker parts were touch sensitive which was annoying so I turned that off. These are absolutely not for workouts or hot weather. Sweat/ condensation builds up in the speaker parts and they got in the way for some overhead movements. All of that aside, I would've kept wearing them anyway. Except for the fact that I've owned two models in the past two years. They keep breaking in the same spot! Im extremely careful with all my stuff and maintain them well. So when my first pair broke I was surprised. I opened a repair case with Sony about them and the service was fantastic. I was quickly sent a new pair in exchange for my old one, free of charge. Then, a year later when my second pair broke (again, in the same spot!!) I reached out to Sony assuming I would receive the same service because this has got to be a design flaw. However, Sony is now charging $99 (excluding shipping) every time they break due to their own design flaw. It's basically a $99 yearly subscription to maintain my $400 headphones. I heavily rely on headphones in every day life so it really is upsetting to either have to pay $400 for another pair of headphones or pay $109 to have mine sent away to a third party company for them to break again soon. So if you're somehow more careful than me, have a bigger head than me, and/or can afford a $99+ yearly repair fee then these could be for you.

I got these headphones about six months ago. There is a crack In the headband. I did not drop them or misuse them. Try to use the warranty on them however apparently it's not for the headband. They feel cheaply made. The headband also does not lock in place when adjusting the size. I wish sony cared more about the quality of their products.

The noise cancellation is excellent, I'm always amazed when I put them on, and the background noise disappears. I mostly use them in the office when I need to focus.

Nothing but constant issues since I bought them and even after having them replaced. The notorious hinge issue finally happened to me as well. I wish I never purchased them and they are definitely overrated.

Please don't buy these without reading the 1 star reviews! I paid $400 dollars and $50+ for the warranty which was worthless! The headband hinge separates from the ear pad, and of course it's not covered by the warranty! If you look at other reviews on this site and others you will see the same thing has happened over and over. Don't bother calling their support line, it won't do any good! Very disappointed in Sony, and will never but another Sony product!

Bought 2 pair, neither stay connected when fully charged. Mowing the lawn, phone in pocket, headphones disconnect/reconnect several times. Poor purchase.

I didn't like the feeling of the strap over the top. I felt like the band should be wider perhaps. The sound quality is unparalleled however the noise cancellation interferes with my balance and makes me feel dizzy.

Had these for a year and a half, and the right ear has suddenly stopped playing sound. The touch gestures still work but no sound. Generally the headphones have been good, although the build is definitely flimsy. Also the headband can be uncomfortable after long use

I've had these for about a year now. The sound is AMAZING but they kept shutting off and recently they just fell apart??? I mean literally. I go to put them on and one ear piece falls out of the head piece part. Come to find out I wasn't the only one so I contacted support. The only solution they gave me was to spend 100 dollars go get it fixed. 400 dollar headphones and you don't cover physical damage that seems to be on the manufacturers part??? You can't be serious. Save the money and don't buy them. They're not worth it because now they're just sitting there unusable. Money down the drain

This item was purchased as a gift, and within a year, while under warranty, the band connecting to the earpiece tore after normal usage, just being taken off my head. I called customer service several times to have the item repaired or replaced due to the item being defective, and after a frustrating experience dealing with customer service, they finally emailed me a link to send images of the damage to determine whether it can be replaced or repaired under warranty. After sending the images, I never heard anything back, and had to call them back and go through the same hoops to be told simply that "physical damage is not covered by their limited warranty" without any sort of in depth explanation. To add insult to injury, their only offers the remedy the situation was either having the headband tear repaired for a price of $100, which is already a sizeable amount compared to the price of the item, or a 15-20% discount off of buying a new one, both options I consider lackluster. By all means I do not recommend buying this item, it will not last even a year, and they will not honor their warranty.

clearly, the hinges are a design fault. something sony must have been absolutely aware of even before launching this product. instead, through the magic of corporate gaslighting, suddenly at least 60% of their customer base owning this product, out of the blue, decided to use this headset to hammer nails into walls. this experience does not, in the least fill me with confidence to buy anything sony ever again.

The sound itself is 10/10 But swivel hinge came off during warranty period and Sony refused to honour the warranty and want to charge me £92 to change the hinge. Sony is chalking it off as "physical damage" and won't honour the warranty. I have done some research online and there are hundreds of same on Reddit and other sites that there is a design flaw with the hinge and Sony won't acknowledge and honour the warranty. Hundreds of people with same comments that there hinge came off with light use and Sony won't honour the warranty. I saw today that the New model x6 is out, I'm staying far away from it and will get Bose or Technics instead.

Fantastic headphones with great features. But audio is slightly lacking compared to some of its competitors. The Airpod max, the Senheisser and Bose all have the edge over Sony on pure sound quality. Build quality is also just a tad behind, with weak hinges and flaking plastic.

I bought these as an upgrade for my XM4 headphones which were really good. These are definitely a step forward in both noise cancellation and quality of sound. The ear pads are also more comfortable.

I bought the WH-XM5 last Thurs from Harvey Norman Carrickmines because sennheiser M4 and later the XM4 were not good enough as I was upgrading from the XM2. I must say I love my music, and boy, this can does it!!!. The noise cancelling is a marvel too! Last night my wife got back home and came right to me waving and I didn't know. The TV was on but I couldn't hear much. You can custom the equaliser to your tast, but by raising them all up and putting the horizontal on highest too is like the best you can get from this cans. If you love your music undisturbed, I strongly recommend the XM5.
