This is the camera I WISH I had bought to replace the G12 I wore out. The clarity of the photos and the ease of shooting was outstanding. The view finder made this so much easier to use outside. The zoom might not have been as powerful as the Powershot SX60 HS I bought to replace it but the G12 got wonderful detail and could do distant landscapes well. Butterflies--brilliant color--and bumble bees--you could see individual hairs on their bodies. Super simple to operate as a point and shoot but SLR quality. The rotating LED captured amazing details. It is not bulky. It took five years, but I wore the camera out taking 1000s of pictures. I can't think of anything I didn't like about this product. If I wouldn't lose my copyright to the company, I would share my pix but I use them for greeting cards.

I had a G7 and watched as the improved models came along. When they hit G12, I bought one and am totally pleased. I easily carry it whenever I anticipate taking snaps, as when skiing. Color/brightness when in auto modes is flawless. I was at a wedding on Labor Day 2017. The pro photographers had all Canon equipment. I chatted with one about my G12 and he acknowledged that if you travel and carry one camera, carry the G12!! He had the serious big stuff dangling around his neck and said my G12 will get snaps just as good. Get one and you'll never regret it!!! I still own Canon FTQL/FTB SLRs and several zoom lenses using Kodachrome 25, dating back to the late '60s-'70s. Canon is the best. Forsake all others.

We went to Niagara Falls Canada and took pictures very close to the Falls. The impact of the falls on the ground created a very thick amount of droplet mist. The camera got dampen from it but was still able to perform as it did.

I purchased this to replace an A95. I love it. It gets used more than all of my others. It is small an light, will fit into a large pocket, but still heavy enough to not 'bounce' when your holding it. I like the LCD screen that rotates for shots that are hard to access the back of the camera. The RAW capture is also a plus. All of the buttons are accessible, although my larger fingers tend to bump the wrong buttons at times. Battery life is very good. Overall, a very nice unit. If I have a complaint, it will be that there is still a 'lag' for the shutter. All else works very well. I'm very happy with this camera.

The request for this review came very soon after purchasing this camera used. Have really only spent one weekend with it, and haven't looked at any of the shots on anything larger than the camera's LCD. However, in either full auto mode or any combination of manual/auto settings, it's been easy to use, understand and snap away.

After years of carrying half a camera store over my shoulder whenever traveled or went to one of my kids' school concerts, I was looking for a "pocketable" camera. I have never owned a small point and shoot before and the idea of being able to shoot RAW and still use off-camera flash made the G12 very attractive to me. The fact that it shoots halfway decent video was plus, too. I recently took a trip to Texas and bought this used G12 to bring along. I also brought a 50D and shot several scenes with both cameras. Clearly, the shots from the 50D were superior, but for non-commercial use, in most cases, I'd be perfectly comfortable leaving the pro gear in the bag and sticking the G12 in my pocket. I also liked the fact that I was comfortable using the G12 while walking alone in some urban settings were I wouldn't have dared use one of my high-end kits. The placement of ISO, Exposure Compensation and Shooting Mode dials is excellent. These features are right where a seasoned photographer would expect to find them. The dials all feel solid and provide a nice "click-in" feel as they are advanced. The manual focus system is frustrating, but the autofocus is adequate if your subject isn't moving. Image sharpness suffers significantly below f/5.6. Having a maximum aperture of only f/8.0, the G12 has a very limited usable aperture range. The Auto ISO feature is very good - VERY good - it makes up for the limitations with the usable aperture range.

This is a first camera for my wife and a " carry-everywhere camera for me. There are times when I don't want to carry my D5100 w/18-200mm lens, but I almost always want to have a camera with me. This is a very nice point-and-shoot with lots of controls available without going through meunus. The image quality is very good for the sensor size, meaning no problems at all with moderatley cropped 8x10's. You can probably go larger.

We wanted a camera with a vari-angle LCD, so we went with the G12. Excellent choice. Love the quality of the pictures although I will say that it sometimes takes a bit longer than I would like to focus on the subject (although the continuous shooting mode is a good alternative when you want it to focus/shoot quickly). Overall a great point and shoot camera that has a lot of great features/additional settings and manual capabilities. I'm rating it a 4 out of a 5 only because I wish it came with the full 1080 HD video (video is still very good though). Highly recommend.

Best compact camera ever! Great in sharpness and fast response! No shooting-lag! You get what you want at the exact instant! Auto focus is magnificent. When you use it in Auto mode, G12 is just perfect. Creative, precise and friendly in Manual Mode. The perfect complement for my Canon 5D mark II on my photo safaris. Great for easy-going family shooting. Undoubtedly, the most accurate compact camera I have ever tried.

The Canon G12 is a wonderful addition to my digital SLR equipment. Its features go far beyond what is required by me, and the picture quality is superb. I do have a problem with the complexity of the users' manual, and it's taking me an inordinate amount of time to learn to use the camera's features. It is worthy to note that Adorama was helpful and reasonable, and as usual it was a pleasure to do business with them (only problem - they sent the wrong case and I didn't contact them about it since I've been traveling).

I bought this camera for hiking and backpacking trips, where the weight and bulk of my DSLRs is just a bit too much. My main concern in purchasing a compact camera was image quality, as I'm used to shooting with professional gear. I have not been disappointed! That's not to say that this or any compact camera rivals a full-frame Canon DSLR with an L lens attached to it. But I am as pleased with the image quality as I would be using my old XTi with the kit lens. That's a lot to ask from a camera in this class -- especially considering the XTi's sensor is 7x larger! Noise handling at high ISOs is great, blows other point and shoots out of the water. The Digic 4 processor does a phenomenal job. The manual controls are intuitive and work well. Even the auto modes are useful, and even fun! Unless you're willing to pay much more for the G1X, you simply aren't going to find better image quality in a compact camera.

Was debating between the G1X and the G12, after reading reviews I decided to go withe g12. IT IS AMAZING. best "point and shoot" camera period. if you are on the verge of buying. just buy it. no regrets. Adorama sent out the camera asap and they have the best prices. THANKS ADORAMA!!!

I travel a lot in third world countries, carrying a lot of big heavy camera equipment- being a woman, it is hard to blend in- and I wanted a backup to capture the everyday shots. I am also an underwater photographer, and for the first time, did not take my big video and housings...I used this to shoot sharks, mantas and whales in the Socorro Islands with very good results-I used the Canon housing. It makes traveling a whole lot easier. You still have to deal with shutter lag on the stills- so it's best for landscapes and not wildlife...

I have not tried the video capablities so I cannot coment on those. I added an external Flash from Canon. This was bought as an improvement and replacement for my P&S. I still use my Canon XSi for more demanding situations or when I need the versitility of intechangeable lens. I got a great buy as it is begining to appear on sale now and then. I was considering the New Canon G1a until I saw the price difference and compared features. I got a great camers for a lot less than the price of an G1a. This my 5th Canon and I still use the others including my film based Canon A-1

Great alternative to my Canon SLRs when I don't feel like carrying around all the gear or the shooting situation is more casual. Plently of shooting options if you are incined to do more than point and shoot...great and easy to use if youare familiar with Canons. Only downside is that the viewfinder really isn't a viewfinder and you need to rely on the screen for accurate capture.

Gets noisy in higher iso, poor low light images. As a pocket camera, it's great in good light. Good image quality.

I have a number of DSLRs that are too big to carry on vacations and trips, and my point and shoot doesnt have any real control. The G12 has reasonable megapixel count, handles well, is big enough but not too big and provides manual control. The viewfinder is great for bright sunlight and the tilting display lets you hold the camera high or low. The quality of the photos is good and depends on your skill and care. I would prefer a bit more control over the auto focus and exposure modes, but it does well enough on its own. I guess I really wanted a $1000 camera for [$]. I bought a belt pack case for it and it goes with me just about everywhere now and my wife took the old point and shoot.

I have been using CANON cameras for the past 5 years and have always had success with my photos. I haven't used the camera yet but I am not used to all of the differences on this camera compared to my powershot 1000. Hopefully once I learn how to use the camera it will take top notch pix. My son seems to love the camera- in fact he wants one.
