My G10 was the best digital camera I ever owned. No issues nor complain until after 3 years of heavy use. The retractable lens cover started rubbing against the lens and left a scratch visible in the pictures. Got that fixed by the factory for a reasonable cost. A year later, the upper left corner of the pics show dark clouds that are bad enough that it shows on all the pics, unless it is a dark background. i have used the camera heavily @ 3000 pics a month. Not sure if the camera was built to withstand such usage. For the cost of getting repaired and the price of a new one, I chose to buy a new camera with the latest technology, warranty and possibly more durable.

This is the camera I always take with me. Small enough so it doesn't stay at home but still takes high enough quality images and offers enough features to handle 95% of what I want to do. I fell off a mountain, landed on this camera and it still works fine. I love it.

Love the size and crispness of the lens, but slow in low light and speed.

This camera is lack of the basic but very important of the digital cameras. It does not have time/date stamp. How can you tell when the pictures were taken after couple months. The much cheaper ones even have this feature. Very ridiculous.

I use this mainly for shooting the grandkids and time when I reaaly want to travell light. The viewfinder is usless as it only covers a fration of the actual image. Guessing where to aim it is a real art in itself. All in all it is a very nice camera especially in it's class.

This is a great camera for anyone that wants a DSLR but does not want to pay for one. It does draw short of a true DSLR, but has almost the same capabilties. You can't change the lens, manual focus is in a rough form and does not have HD video mode like the G9. I use it for racing, diving and even special shots like a DSLR. Once you learn all the different modes this will surely meet your expectations, unless you really need a DSLR. I previously had a G9 which had the 720p video that is now gone on the G10. This I miss the most. Don't understand why they did this. Also the Dive case does not allow for the rotary dial on the select nobe to be used. Overall this a great camera.

I read several reviews about cameras and even asked questions about what I was looking for. I chose the G10 based on what I heard. This is a Good quality camera. I love the quality and functions but the performance as far as indoor sport shots(volleyball and the continuous shooting feature are in need of improvement.

O.K. I've had several CANON cameras including several AE-Programs and the SD1000. This is the ONLY camera that I've ever had where the RED EYE actually works. Just took a photo of four sleeping barnswallows. It turned out that two of them opened their eyes because the flash went off (I'm learning the camera features. The second time I tried to take the photo, one opened his eyes and looked at me directly like, "What are you doing?" No red eye. I've been waiting to get a "G" for three years. Finally, thank you, Canon.

This camera makes me feel like a pro! The manual that comes with it is pretty weaksauce, but if you play around with it, you learn it quickly.

Recently spent 26 days on a Western Med and transAtlantic cruise. I have D5 MkII SLR and several lenses but this is the only camera I took with me. It performed perfectly in all conditions from dim light inside churches to bright sunlight. I don't regret leaving the SLR home at all.

Another fine Canon product. Even dropped it on a rock while hiking and it's still firing away, no problems.

I've owned my G10 for two years and pretty much put my 30D in the closet. I do a lot of local traveling on a motorcycle and take photos when I can. This images have been great. Put a Canon speed light on indoors and get great bounce flash images. All was great until today when the strap came off. I thought the strap itself came undone. Further inspection revealed not 1 the the screws that held the strap loop to the camera had come out but 3 of the 6 screws that hold the body together have worked themselves out.

The G10 takes the best macro pictures on the appropriate setting, without a separate macro lens. I love the weight; a little heavier than a point and shoot, but so much easier for me to handle than a big SLR. I frequently use a tripod with it also. Battery life is great! I find excellent low-light performance. All settings are true to their name, especially RAW setting that produces fantastic colors and wonderful capture of light and shading. Tough construction (I am disabled and have dropped it more than once).. All the control buttons are easy to manipulate.

Nice Camera! Prefer the G10 body over that of the G11 body. Don't really care for the swing out display. Also, I shoot outdoor photos and architecture. It would be nice to have a wider angle. A G10 body style, the current features, and a 24mm wide angle lens would make the deal!. I know there is a screw on wide angle adapter, but really. Build-in the 24mm wide angle, get rid of the swing out display, and keep all the other features. I'd say NICE!!

I've used this camera for five months now. I love it. It's easy to use. The screen is big and bright. You can see the picture on the screen, where with my last camera, the screen was so tiny that I had to wait until I put the pictures on the computer to be able to see them. I can take pictures in a dark room and they turn out light enough. The battery lasts long. I bought an extra one so that I can replace it immediately when it dies. It has almost 15 mega pixels. My last camera had three. These pictures are so sharp and clear. I recommend setting the camera to reduce red eye. I finally did that and now there's no red eye in the pictures. I also bought a memory card and a case. I'm very happy with the Canon G10.

Great camera, all the bells and whistles... A lot to learn but the basics have suited me just fine, I use a DSLR as my primary camera, still this is a great camera. I have utilized my 550 flash with this camera with fabulous results...a little awkward with that big flash, onboard flash works exceptionally well when bounce is not required.

Positive: Compact range finder, rugged metal body, usable features, feels comfortable in the hand, equivalent picture quality to cheap DSLR if taken in well lit circumstance, big bright LCD, viewfinder for bright outdoor shooting. * Negative: So-so lens w/ barrel distortion at wide angle, Images show significant digital noise in low light, slow shooting in low lighty, important shooting adjustments require accessing menu. * I'm waiting for Canon to release a nice compact rangefinder w/ interchangeable lenses and a better image sensor.

Aloha as an amature photographer, I have to say this camera by far exceeds every other digi. cam i have ever bought. both video and stills are the best. I have archived everything in my life with it last year since i bought this camera in Germany, I was on tour with Simply Red and the memories that this camera has given me is absolutely incredible!!! the very best than all others, none will replace it until i become a full fledged photographer. I'm even thinking about doing a video shoot with this camera and making a DVD for sale and see if anyone could tell the difference between some High Def video camera and the G10!!! wish me luck!!! mahalo nui (thank you very much) Uncle Willie K

I bought this camera as a replacement for canon A570IS. I am very happy with it, I was intimidated at first but then I found youtube videos and it all became clear. It takes great pictures and fits in my purse. The battery life is good too. I bought a second battery, for emergencys. I also bought the opteka lens package that is supposed to be compatible with the G10, but I found them unsatisfactory. Even though this camera can add lenses, it isn't necessary. I am very happy with this camera.

This is an outstanding camera! The image quality is fantastic and the controls are easy to access. I upgraded from a G7 and was especially glad to see exposure control now a dial instead of a menu selection. I use the underwater housing extensively. This takes great shots in good lighting. Not so good at High ISO low light. Very noisy at anything over ISO 400 with little to be done to control it. So far the best non-SLR camera I've used both above and below the water.

This camera was amazing! I LOVE the screen, i find that to be something i look for in camera. I love some settings, such as being able to pick one color to stand out from a black and white photo. The quality of picture is great. One thing that dissappoints me is not being able to have lenses. I would highly recommend this camera!

I absolutely love the Cannon G10. I was going to buy the G11, but I am a student and therfore I didnt want to worry about breaking off the LCD screen that was able to rotate. I picked the regular LCD screen and its wonderful! It is huge and allows you to really view the image quality of the picture. The functions are great. I have done a lot of traveling and it is a very easy to use camera WITHOUT all the bulk! I recommend this to any college student. You get great images and you dont have to worry about a huge lens sticking out all the time. It is also a great camera to take into Clubs. Takes wonderful night and sunset shots. I also got it for a great price, so that is another reason why I purchased the camera.

I bought this as a carry around camera when I couldn't take my Nikon D300. And, for a small compact camera, it more than meets my expectations. I won't hesitate to use it as a back up camera, as well.

I'm a faithful Canon user and the G10 is packed with features. I use it when I don't want to lug around my digital SLR. It's quality is impressive. It's battery life has surprised me, it can go along time between chargings. It's not lightweight or slim, but considering that it's one notch down from an SLR, I'm still impressed with it's size.

Power Shot G10
By None
I am a lighting designer. The G10 is very close to being the perfect camera for my work. The compact size fits into my camera bag in which I also carry my canon flash. The quality of the pictures that I can view on the job site with the 3 inch viewing screen makes my job that much easier. The G10 has a wide range of operating systems, that allows me to "tailor" the photos to my customer's needs. The high pixel count makes for excellent reproduction in photoshop. I do not have to carry extra l...

Only right for a few...in my opinion
By G10 F.
I really enjoy this camera and highly recommend it...on one main condition. My favorite feature about this camera is that it shoots in RAW. If you're not going to use this format in combination with a photo-editing program, I suggest you save your money and search for a model with similar features to the G10, sans the price tag. If you do choose to stick with the G10, I have a feeling you already know what you're getting into. The camera's capabilities are awesome (although it obviously isn't...

The Canon PowerShot G10 Compact Digital Camera is loaded with uncompromising specs like 14.7 mega pixels, a 28mm wide-angle lens and Canon's new DIGIC 4 Image Processor for notably improved face and motion detection. This is a camera that supports and nurtures creativity, with a full range of shooting and recording modes and compatibility with exciting accessories including Speedlite flashes.
Combined with unsurpassed DIGIC 4 image processing, this impressive pixel count delivers richly detailed photos that resonate with lifelike depth from shadows to highlights. An important benefit to the G10's lofty pixel count is the flexibility it lends to the editing process. With 14.7 mega pixels of resolution, any portion of any shot is a great candidate for enlargement. Enlarge and crop as your creative vision demands, confident that the detail you need is there for you. The camera is equipped with a long 5x optical zoom and Canon's own Optical Image Stabilizer Technology keeps images steady and blur-free all through the zoom range - even in low light - by detecting motion and generating a corrective signal.
Because it is an optical system, more corrective movement is allowed and there is no degradation of image quality. The G10 is a highly versatile camera with a wide-angle zoom lens that reaches all the way from 28mm at the wide end to 140mm at the telephoto end (35mm format equivalent). You'll capture more image in every shot and add greater depth to your overall photography. Canon's proprietary DIGIC Image Processors have long set its cameras apart from the competition and the new DIGIC 4 sets the bar even higher.
Faster, more accurate noise reduction delivers better image quality, even at high ISO speeds. iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance. A new Face Self-Timer automatically detects an increase in the number of faces and makes the appropriate adjustments.
For instance, to include photographer's face in a group shot, there's no need to rush in. Just put the camera on a stand or tripod and specify Face Self-Timer and the camera will wait for the photographer's face to get on-camera before it takes the shot. Motion Detection now tracks moving subjects in a much larger range and the new Servo AF retains focus on a moving subject after the shutter button is pressed halfway - allowing you to wait for the perfect shot without refocusing. Also, Face Detection and Motion Detection are markedly improved.
