I bought this lens to take backstage shots at pageants and for event candids. It is a really sharp lens. I use this lens on an R7. I bought it to complement my 24-105 2.8 lens. It is wide enough for a crowded backstage.

Great clarity, good range though that quality requires weight. Moved from a lighter f4 10-18 lens and very happy with the improved images.

So far so good.. I went to LAX to try it out, first thing that stood out, it is a fast lens. The lens doesn't "breathe" like my RF 70-200mm; it just finds/locates the airplane and locks in very quick. When I say very quick it's less than 1 sec. By the time you focus and lock it, you can let the camera fly.

Gorgeous sharp lens - perfect for the dance floor! Some distortion at edges when wide open, which is to be expected, but amazing at 35mm as well!

Bought this lense for reception fireworks because 28mm is just not quite wide enough. Did not disappoint.

I bought this lens, used it for one weekend and returned it. Maybe I just got a bad lens(which should NOT happen on a price tag of $2300) But ALL the images with this lens were soft and needed to be sharpened with software.

I bought six months ago and love it. One of my favorite RF lens.

Sharp Sharp Sharp! This wide angle produces an incredible image quality with minimum distortion and minimum vignetting its really hard to say anything bad about this lens its just fantastic. The 82mm filter thread and image stabilization make the lens extra versatile for different shooting scenarios I haven't been able to do before with a wide angle lens because they're usually too bulbous in the front If I really had to nit-pick something, id say the fact that this lens looks exactly like its RF 24-70 2.8 brother so sometimes its tough to distinguish the two in the bag and you pull the wrong one out, but that could be fixed with a simple label on the caps. Just buy this its expensive but well worth it and it goes on sale a bunch of times!

I receive the lens a couple of days ago. I heard the rolling / shaking sound inside the box. After I opened the outside box, I saw the canon lens box opened up. I pulled out the top mop, and saw the lens was not tighten to the cap. Some dust got into. The hood was not clean and looked dirty. I have not fully tested this lens with my R5 yet. The light was bright and clear when I recorded a testing video inside the house. Tim

Tack sharp, well built; would love to see more IF lenses from Canon, but fantastic to shoot with and highly recommend.

This is an excellent landscape and general wide-angle lens. I have used it for photographing the Milky Way as well and I did not notice any Coma distortion at all. It is a bit pricy, but it is worth it because it seems to live up to the Canon "L" standard.

Is a well built, sharp wide angle lens. I will utilize for autumn landscape photography as well as year round photography.

I really don't like writing reviews because most of the time its a personal perspective. But this lens is utterly out of this world. I had the EF version and there is no comparison. I don't know why some say you don't need f 2.8. But while taking photos with this lens I was surprised at how many of my photos were shot a f 2.8. Sharpness is out of this world. Bokeh is incredible for such a wide angle. I was on the fence about purchasing the 14-35 f 4 L. Look if you can afford it buy it. If you like the best buy it. If you want absolutely the best photos to remember, buy it. This is one of my best purchases and I am so glad I bought it. This is why I only write reviews when I have something to say. And this time Canon did a wonderful job.

I am loving this lens. I do a range of photography from portraits to real estate and this lens does everything well. It has a great build quality and weight to it.

I hate to write a poor review of this lens because it is obviously a first-rate design with benchmark performance. However, I must say that of the four samples I have purchased, none were keepers because of what appears to be misaligned lens elements. Parts of the image are significantly blurry at certain focal lengths while most of the image is sharp. I saw this on all of the samples I've tried. Two were ordered direct from Canon, one from Amazon and one from B&H. All were returned. These are the only Canon lenses I have ever returned. I am not alone. Others have experienced the same issues with this lens. I suspect it is a very difficult design to manufacture perfectly. Where it is sharp it is very sharp and contrasty. Slightly better than my old EF 16-35mm f/4L. But the older lens has none of the problems I'm seeing with the new lens. Other than the alignment issue the main concern with the RF lens is the extreme vignetting at the widest aperture, which may be a concern in certain applications such as astrophotography. Here the lens also exhibits some coma in the corners and along the edges but it's not too bad. My Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 is better in this regard at half the price but is a beast compared to the Canon. The Canon is better in the daylight. I do mostly landscapes and nightscapes professionally with the Canon R5 and Ra cameras so maybe I'm more demanding of the equipment but I have never had these issues with any other Canon lenses. Hopefully this is useful information.

I use this lens on a R5 camera and the images are tack sharp. When enlarging an image the reflections of a persons eyes are awesome! I've taken photos of people at significant distance and still have a excellent photo when enlarged. My nature photos with the lens have turned out impressive.

I sent back the lens because of its soft focus. I sent also some samples to Canon, but they weren't able to tell if the lens was defective or not. I am quite disappointed since most reviews describe it as a sharp lens.

Great lens and super sharp. Show minimal distortion in shooting interior shots. I have not seen any vignetting compared to 16-35mm II. It has great color, contrast and clarity. Very happy with my purchase!

This lens has been incredible for me, I have used it for shooting real-estate and it has really allowed me to help get the professional look I was going for. I had to save up for a while to afford but very much worth it and the lens holds its value as do most lenses. This lens adds whole new set of diversity of shots I can get new and complements my other lenses nicely. Plus it has great stabilization and just makes everything look great!

Wow! This is the nicest lens I've ever owned. Tack sharp and a joy to work with. It is a beast though and dwarfs my EOS RP

When I switched to mirrorless last summer, this lens was at the top of my dream list and it certainly did not disappoint! It's absolutely incredible for both landscapes and video. The only shortcoming for me is the moderate vignette at the edges at 15mm (made far worse at 15mm with any kind of screw on filter). But, the light weight of the lens and Canon's control ring make up for it in my book.

Very sharp wide angle lens!
By Michael K.
This is my third rf lens I own (have the 28-70 and the 85mm) and this is by far the lightest of my trinity. The sharpness is amazing on this lens! With the lens stabilization I was shooting handheld at 1/20 with no issues. You will get some vignetting at the wide end of the lens. One other grip is how the lens pulls out at the wide end. This lens will be the perfect solution for the 4K crop issue in the video mode with its wide focal length and the IS on the lens! I highly recommend this lens!
You know what they say: good things come in pairs. Canon has officially announced two exciting APS-C Sensor cameras: the EOS Canon 90D, a DSLR that is designed and built to refresh update the extremely popular 80D; as well as the EOS M6 Mark II, a crop sensor mirrorless camera, which aims to take the promising M Series to even greater heights...READ MORE
