I love this lense. A fantastic all rounder with a great zoom that plugs the gap for when I don't need to carry a larger lens around. The macro is also superb, easily the most comfortable macro I've used. *****

I purchased this lens about a year ago now and very happy with the results. This lense is incredible and small compared to other 70-200G lenses. The first thing I fell in love with was the image quality and the bokeh. It really surprised me as this is a very sharp lense and very usable in the field with its macro capabilities. I also purchased the 1.4x teleconverter and it performs very nicely. Overall, I believe this is one of the best lenses I've purchased to date. It's fast autofocus, sharpness, and the macro capabilities adds to its usefulness. 100%.

Bought this lens in December 2024 and I just love it. Focus and zoom rings are so easy to turn. It's a dream.

A recent purchase after having sold my 70-200 G f2.8, and I must admit this has been an eye-opener for me, who is just a happy amateur photographer. The features, the weight the size has been brilliant; I can carry it in a small shoulder bag along with my A7cii when in the city, which saves me from carrying my larger full-frame cameras along with a couple of other lenses I would encourage anyone to give this lens a try

I'm pleased to have a zoom macro lens, which saves walking into the flower bed to take flower and insect pictures It's such a disappointment that Sony will not provide Arca compatible lens feet, so you need to add a further budget allowance if you want to use a tripod head of any sort!

Initial impressions - WOW! I've been using this for outdoor sports photo/video and have been impressed with the crispy photos and the ability to capture fast action. For my use the f/4 is perfect and does an exceptional job considering the price point. I'm not at the level of considering the f/2.8 at this time but maybe in the future if I can get over the price point.

I have the existing Sony 70-200 F4 G lens that I love for landscape photography. I decided to buy the version 2 lens for the macro capability, the fact that it is compatible with the teleconvertors and for the fast autofocus with the linear focus motors. When used with my Sony A7RV with insect subjectcdetect I capture beautiful macro shots. With the teleconvertor or punch in 1.5 crop I get some nice birds in flight photos with good reach with this very light lens. The shorter length when packed away means I can leave it attached to my camera and it still fits in my messenger bag for compact light carry. It really is like having three lenses in one. I really love this versatile lens & the shots render beautifully straight out of camera & I don't feel like they need very much editing! Highly recommend - you won't be disappointed!

This turns out to be a very wonderful travel/hiking/backpacking lens. It's compact size and relative light weight make it easy to pack around, and the lability to add a teleconverter with little loss of quality makes it extremely versatile for a wide range of photographic needs. And of the picture quality of this lens is excellent.

Great, beautiful lens, cannot fault it. But I'm a little bit disappointed with Sony for not being able to include any bag for the lens. It's okay, we can buy it, but when you spend premium money on premium lens, you expect it to be perfect...and to save on a simple bag? Sony, it's embarrassing!

I bought this lens to photograph butterflies in the wild. A normal telephoto lens does not work because the minimum focus distance is too large. The 70-200 f4 Macro ii seems to be just the thing.

The macro capability of the new 70-200 is so useful! Image quality is great through the whole range and OSS makes handheld shots so much easier. f/4.0 is absolutely no problem with modern sensors and image processing - f/4.0 is also smaller and lighter.

I cannot say enough about this new lens, it has been my most used since I bought it. Super sharp along with being small & light it's the perfect zoom in my opinion. Don't worry about the f4 unless you must have a stop faster. The icing on the cake is the macro which can be 1 to 1 with the teleconverter. lastly crazy fast focusing makes this lens one of Sony's best, buy it now and you won't regret it.

I am so happy with this lens. I traded several lenses to contribute toward this one. It was nice to work with the trade-in crew and easy. I put the lens through its paces on my A7R5 and its sharp, reliable and lite AND works with my 2x multiplier! Love it.

What a brilliant little lens! The macro focus (1/2 life size) sold me on this rather than the other Sony 70-200mm options). Wonderfully sharp and fast autofocus.

This lens has been greatly improved over the original 70-200 G I. It's function , size and OOS are fantastic. The sharpness is incredible along with the focusing speed with tracking. Like I wrote before SONY FANTASTIC.

I have been shooting since the 1970's. Yup, I'm old(er). I shot with a competitor for years and used a 70-200 for the majority of my landscape work. I thought that lens was the best there was. Fast forward to my Sony experience, the last 5 years. When I saw this 70-200 with a macro setting I had to go for it. I am amazed at the clarity throughout the range. The macro setting is.a bonus. The lens is lighter and more compact than I expected. You will not be disappointed with the quality and versatility of this lens.

Lighter than its predecessor, with macro as well!
By POD2023
Replaced my first generation 70-200mm F4 lens with this lovely new one. Love the fact that it's lighter and also has a macro function. Very happy with it so far.
The new Sony 70-200mm f4 G2 lens is smaller and lighter than the previous iteration, now with the ability to shoot macro images. This updated version is approximately 15% shorter than the previous lens and lighter. Users will immediately notice the lens has been completely redesigned with exceptional build quality.
The Sony 70-200mm f4 lens brings enhanced optical performance with highly detailed, sharp, and clean images. Beyond clarity, it maintains original color integrity to preserve your photos' authenticity. This powerful lens seamlessly marries precision and color accuracy, making it an invaluable tool for photographers keen on capturing the world as vividly and true-to-life as possible.
With the integration of macro capabilities, you can now get impressively close to your subject for ultra-sharp captures, bolstered by internal stabilization. Whether shooting in radiant natural light or exploring outdoor environments, this versatile lens is a reliable companion in your camera bag. Its broad coverage of various shooting scenarios makes it a popular choice for photographers seeking to condense their kit without sacrificing quality or adaptability.
Armed with a high-resolution camera, you can crop the sensor to essentially yield a 400mm lens. Furthermore, this lens is designed to harmoniously pair with the Sony 2.0x teleconverter. This allows you to extend its reach up to an impressive 600mm. This combination provides significant flexibility, catering to varied shooting scenarios while maintaining exceptional image quality.
Boasting numerous switches on its housing, this E-mount lens provides ample control with settings for lock, AF/MF, OSS, Full Time DMF, and Macro or Full selection. Despite these multiple features, the lens maintains a compact form to ensure stability even at full extension. This well-balanced design makes it a versatile tool, offering photographers a fine balance between control, compactness, and stability.
The OSS stands for Optical SteadyShot, Sony's proprietary in-lens stabilization system. This technology works by moving the lens elements to counteract camera shake, preventing blurred images due to small movements when hand-holding a camera. OSS stabilization is particularly useful when shooting in low light conditions, or when using a telephoto lens, as both situations can make camera shake more apparent and potentially ruin a shot. If you shoot handheld, this 70-200mm lens features incredible stabilization.
