I bought this several months ago, and haven't been able to get it to work. Followed all the troubleshooting instructions on the LG website to no avail, used other troubleshooting instructions- nothing. Called LG and the rep said they'd send a return email so I could get another in 3-5 business days. That was 5 a week ago and nothing. Still waiting for the RMA label. So, I basically flushed the money down the toilet for a device that didn't work out of the box. Pity. I really need a Blu-ray player.

I've had this drive for probably 8-10 years now, and it has never let me down. I typically use it with BD-R (25GB) and DVD+R DL (8.5GB) media (because higher capacity discs are just too expensive for me to justify the cost). In today's age of disposable products, it's nice to see something that not only does what it was designed to do, but also lasts a long time.

After the fifth BD burning, the drive failed to complete a burn. I first attributed the failure to the disk but after the second consecutive failure and not recognizing the drive with BD disk, I knew has to be the burner. A cycle of disabling/enabling the drive didn't resolve the issue. A bit of research turned swapping SATA ports could be the fix. In my case it was so. The unit has the latest firmware. Not certain if burner or stem is the issue.

I bought two of these. The User Manual and Spec sheet say that the drive will write to DVD+R Double Layer Media. So does the advertising. But the fact is because of a design flaw this drive will not write to DVD+R DB Media, only non-existent DVD-R DL Media. So if writing DL media is important, this drive is useless to you.

I got this model and it don't work so went looking to see what I could figure out. Came here to check compatibility with windows 10. On the Overview page it says yes but on the Specs page it says only compatible with XP, Vista, 7, 8 lol

After the first disk, it only worked as a reader. Different software gives different errors, but I've seen it recognizing blank disks (newly bought) as having only 1.3GB free, and another showed 4.4GB free (yes, I made sure it was free space and not data on the disk) but still bombed out due to space concerns. I will add that I haven't tried using it after first use until just now, trying to burn a new install disk. But every disk? Even generics aren't that bad.

Stopped working after the first use. No longer burns blu rays. LG has so far done nothing to honor their warranty.

Neither the eject button nor emergency eject will open the drive. Terrible.

I bought this through neweggbusiness 3 months ago. It is a very sweet little burner. Setup was simple. Windows 10 directly recognized it and burned disks. After writing 8 successful disks, #9 failed and all after that failed. Returned to neweggbusiness for a quick replacement... The new one burned ~ 8 more disks then failed. I have over 200 disks I need to burn; Am I supposed to buy 25 writers to burn my data?

OEM purchased in bulk, so no direct support there. LG was more helpful, but had to get a supervisor to actually resolve. The website support points to links that actually do not download what they say they will provide. But the supervisor at LG finally solved the issue - now I am happier. I am a long time Systems Engineer, that is highly technical - so these "user" support issues can drive me crazy.

I bought this drive for my desktop pc build in 2014. it is now 2019 and the drive still works. I only ever use it for DVDs that I burn, so I don't know how it handles blueray, but according to the newegg listed specs, this also handles dvd-ram. I think that is why I chose this model at the time, because I wanted two dvd-ram drives haven't ever used it though..., so I also grabbed a dvd super multi to accompany it. Given as I never use it for blueray, I really can't vouch for its functionality aside from successfully burning and reading every dvd I have ever thrown at it. Since it doesnt seem to handle UHD/4k playback, I would look for another drive for that, but it will burn all types of blueray, not that I tested it to know this. All in all, I am very happy with the device, and it seems to have a ton of good features that I will employ over the lifetime of the device.

I bought this 3 days ago. I am using it with my laptop as external drive using SATA to USB 3.0 adapter. This drive is not reading UHD Blu-rays but others are fine. Googled on the issue an found that I need to downgrade the version from 1.03 to 1,02. Not sure how to proceed , if I could not I may need to return this. I WILL UPDATE this if I find solution/ on return.

I got this to replace an older unit that had failed. It pluged in and worked with no problems. I have not tried all the types of DVD’s it is supposed to work with but everything I have tried worked.

Had to restore my computer to factory specs after Windows 10 upgrade. Unfortunatley the Blu-ray part of the disc drive had obsolete software and would only play regular DVD's and the Lightscribe software has been discontinued so I bought this baby. It works better than the one that came with the computer.

The burner replaced a different brand burner that was noisy, slow and couldn't get a firmware update for it. I use two burners for convenience. My other burner is a LG brand so it was a side by side comparison to tell me which is the best. LG is by far the best. Speed wise, construction wise and ease of getting firmware updates.

This drive itself is outstanding and handles every Blu-ray I've thrown at it, including UHD! However, and this is the reason I take off a star, LG released a new firmware update (1.03) which DOES NOT "improve UHD compatibility" as it says, instead it prevents reading of UHD discs and prevents rolling back to earlier firmware. As long as you leave it at 1.02 (a perfectly good firmware), this will work for everything!

I bought this drive to be able to view and edit 4K sized video files stored on a Blu-Ray disk. Due to the size of the 4K video files, a regular DVD drive would not work. This drive when spinning with a blu-ray disk, the hum is a bit loud. I have not tried to burn an M-disc yet, but I wanted to be able to in the future. This drive had all of the features that I wanted for a blu-ray drive. Yes this model is an older generation now, but it fits my needs just right! A highly recommended drive. I liked the fact that I could find all of the support files (less sw apps) on the LG website still.

Had this device for a little over a month. The installation was simple. The read speed and picture quality are amazing!!! The features included with the drive are well put together and bugs free. I can't wait to buy a 3D monitor to enjoy my Blue-Rays in 3D!!!!!! Love this product and all other LG products I bough before. I can't express how happy I have been with LG products!!! Just the best!!!

The 10 year warranty is useless if there is no one in the local area to provide the warranty service.

This drive was highly rated on Amazon, and it has turned out to be a great deal for the price. I have been using it for 2 months and it has ripped and burned DVDs and BR disks as it should without a problem. I needed a replacement for the player burner that came with my computer and it seems to run quicker (may be my imagination and quieter.
Works beautifully in linux!

I have been a linux user since 2000, and this blue-ray burner is one of the best pieces of hardware I've gotten in almost all that time. The speed my system achieves when burning is amazing! I usually average ~45MB/second, so filling a 25GB BD takes less than 15 minutes. LG hit the ball out of the park with this burner. I don't know what the trouble is with those saying anything other than great stuff about this burner (other than blame M$!), but for me this burner is fantastic and works ou...
