The Laowa Proteus Series is the result of two years of collaboration with cinematographers, integrating state-of-the-art technology with classic anamorphic features to deliver remarkable image quality. This lens supports a wide range of cinematic productions, regardless of resolution or aspect ratio. The patented front anamorphic design of the Laowa Proteus 2X Anamorphic Series ensures robust optical composition, blending modern image sharpness with vintage anamorphic characteristics. The constant 2X squeeze ratio is delicately designed to exemplify the classic wide-screen anamorphic look, working comfortably with 4:3 or 6:5 sensors. This allows for a 2.66:1 or 2.4:1 image after de-squeeze, which can be cropped to a 2.39:1 with minimal loss of resolution. The large aperture ranges from T2 to T22, supporting filming in all light conditions and satisfying dynamic on-set needs. The lens delivers ravishing shallow depth of field at a large aperture and renders organic waterfall focus roll-off in the background, a distinct anamorphic characteristic highly desired by the film industry. The Laowa Proteus Series offers outstanding sharpness with excellent color rendition and contrast. Even when shooting wide open, the chromatic aberration is well-controlled. The minimum focusing distance of 55cm (1.8 feet) allows for super close-up shots, adding variety to your framing and storytelling.
