Fujifilm today announced a new compact underwater and weatherproofed camera, the high-performance Fujifilm FinePix XP120, the first compact Fujifilm camera with a built-in Cinemagraph mode. In addition, the company announced a graphite version of its X-Pro 2 flagship camera and a graphite silver-clad edition of its DSLR-like X-T2 interchangeable-lens camera.

The latest in Fujifilm’s lineup of compact rugged digital cameras, the Fujifilm FinePix XP120 is waterproof to 65 feet, can withstand drops up to 5.7 feet, is dustproof, and can be used in cold weather down to 14 degrees F. The camera is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket with no protruding lens thanks to the periscoping internal-zoom lens design. Its 5x optical zoom lens starts at 28mm (35mm equivalent).

Key Features:
  • 16MP BSI CMOS sensor
  • 3-inch 920k dot LCD monitor
  • Cinemagraph mode
  • 4-way environmental protection (Freeze, drop, water and dustproof)
  • Scene Recognition Mode
  • Remote shooting function
  • Burst rate up to 10fps, advanced burst to 60fps
  • 1080/60p Full HD video capture
  • Time-Lapse video
  • Wireless LAN connectivity, smartphone transfer

The way-cool feature in this camera is its ability to record a Cinemagraph with no additional post-processing (we showed you how to create a Cinemagraph in Photoshop here). Not exactly still photos but not really video, Cinemagraphs consist of one moving element in an otherwise still image and is formatted as an animated GIF file. Although there are apps available to let you create a cinemagraph on some smartphones, this may be the first standalone camera to offer this as a built-in feature.

The XP120’s monitor is specially coated with anti-reflective material so it can be used with minimal eye strain in direct sunlight. Controls are designed to be handled with gloved hands when necessary, and the battery compartment is protected from water and dust via a double-locking mechanism. Other features include a 360-degree motion panorama function, and 11 artistic effect filters.

The Fujifilm XP120 will be available in blue, sky blue, green, and yellow, for $229.95 from Adorama.

X-Series Cameras Get Graphite-ish Bodies

Fujifilm X-T2 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body

Fujifilm’s two top interchangeable lens cameras, the X-Pro 2 and X-T2, have been issued in special editions with bodies that have the look of graphite. The X-Pro2 Graphite Edition has been given a high-grade graphite color via multilayer coating and increasing the amount of black pigment on the top coating for a richer metallic texture. The X-T2 Graphite Silver Edition comes complete with a posh leather strap and consist of a body made from triple-baked magnesium top cover and a graphite silver effect on the body that, according to Fuji, gives it a smooth finish and a luxurious shine.
