This morning’s announcement from Canon continues to expand the brand’s popular mirrorless line, and the addition of two new RF lenses — the Canon RF600mm F11 and the Canon RF800mm F11 IS STM super telephoto lenses — further expands the reach of your creative powers.

Here’s everything you need to know about the two new super telephoto lenses!

Key Features:
  • First 600mm super telephoto lens in the RF lineup
  • Lightweight (33.0 oz) and portable design
  • Diffractive Optics (DO) for reduced chromatic aberration
  • Optical image stabilization, up to 5 stops of shake correction
  • Lead screw-type STM focus motor for quiet autofocusing
  • Customizable control ring
  • 12-pin communication system between lens and camera
  • Compatible with new Extender 1.4x and RF Extender 2x

The RF600mm F11 IS STM is the very first compact and lightweight 600mm super telephoto lens to join the RF lineup. Perfect for bird, wildlife, outdoor sports, aviation photography, and any other quick-moving subjects, the lens is designed to track and capture the fastest movements.

Incredibly compact and lightweight — it expands to measure 3.7″ (W) x 11.0″ (H) x 3.7″ (D) and weighs only 33 ounces — the lens can be easily packed away in a bag and ready for travel.

High image quality is achieved thanks to the gapless double-layer Diffractive Optics (DO), which also help to reduce chromatic aberration and keep the lens at its impressive light weight. The added optical image stabilization ensures clean and crisp images — even when opting to go tripod-free — and comes with up to five stops of shake correction.

Canon’s lead screw-type STM focus motor also keeps the lens near-silent and autofocus smooth, in both stills and video, so sleeping animals or birds won’t be disturbed by unnecessary noises.

Finally, the RF600mm F11 IS STM lens is also compatible with the newly-released RF Extender 1.4x and RF Extender 2x, which means you can get up to 840mm or 1200mm, respectively, of zoom.

Key Features:
  • First 800mm super telephoto lens in the RF lineup
  • Lightweight (44.4 oz) and portable design
  • Diffractive Optics (DO) for reduced chromatic aberration and high image quality
  • Optical image stabilization, up to 4 stops of shake correction
  • Lead screw-type STM focus motor for quiet autofocusing
  • Customizable control ring for changing settings
  • 12-pin communication system between lens and camera
  • Compatible with new Extender 1.4x and RF Extender 2x

Like the 600mm lens above, the Canon RF800mm F11 IS STM lens is built for long-distance captures and fast-moving subjects. Also ideal for bird, wildlife, sports, and aviation — but this time with a little more distance — the 800mm lens is also the first of its kind to join the RF family.

Canon also built in the same lead screw-type STM to keep the autofocusing smooth and nearly silent, so the easily-startled subjects (birds, animals) won’t be interrupted.

The built-in IS also provides four stops of shake correction for stable and clear photos, and diffractive optics eliminate chromatic aberration and color fringing.

Finally, just as the 600mm, the 80mm is compatible with the RF Extender 1.4x and RF Extender 2x, growing the lens reach to 1120mm and 1600mm, respectively.
