The big news here is the 30MP sensor, with a significant increase in resolution backed up by a more efficient next-generation processor compared to the Mark III although not as high resolution as the more studio-oriented Canon EOS 5DS, which has a 50MP sensor. The other big news is that this will be the first EOS 5 series with built-in Wi-Fi, NFC, and GPS.

The 100% viewfinder maintains a 0.71 magnification, while the 3.2-inch LCD monitor has been upgraded to 1.62 million dots and is now touch-sensitive. Another nifty feature? Dual-Pixel RAW, which records one normal RAW file and a Dual Pixel RAW file. Using Canon’s Digital Photo Professional, you can do three new post-processing tricks: Reduce flare and ghosting, change the position of the foreground bokeh for a more pleasing result, and Image Micro-adjustment, which uses depth info to apply fine adjustments to sharpness and resolution.HR_5D_MARKIV_BODY_TERMINALS_LEFT_CL

Canon also claims an upgraded noise reduction algorithm, and anti-flicker metering. The camera has a new “Fine Detail” picture style, an electronic level, in-house FTPS file transfer abilities, and a claimed 900-shot battery life.

Other features include: Both CF and SD/SDHC/SDXC card slots and the ability to assign multiple file formats shot simultaneously to different cards; 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor with 252 zone metering including evaluative, partial, spot and centerweighted; 3 custom exposure modes; EV compensation to +/- 5 stops in manual; shutter speed range 30-1/8000 sec with an X-sync of 1/200 sec; flash exposure compensation to +/- 3 stops and external flash control settings.

The Canon 5D Mark IV maintains the same Magnesium Alloy body, Intelligent Viewfinder with 100% field of view, same 3.2-inch LCD monitor, as well as the many features including HDR, multiple exposure support and outstanding handling found in its predecessor. The camera is compatible with Canon’s line of full-frame EF lenses and all E-TTL-II Autoflash EX-series Speedlight flashes.

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM Lens

Many professional photographers consider the Canon EF 24-105mm lens with the constant f/4 maximum aperture to be their workhorse lens. Canon’s next-generation version features an all-new optical designs that include improved peripheral brightness and Air Sphere Coating (ASC) which they claim helps reduce flare and ghosting, and Image Stabilization that’s effective at up to 4 stops of shake correction, based on CIPA standards. The front and rear elements have a fluorine coating to reduce smears and fingerprints.

Canon has also tweaked the inner focusing, ring USM and high-speed CPU with optimized autofocus algorithms, which they say will work together for faster, more accurate AF. As with the original model, full-time manual focus is available while in AF mode. A 10-blade circular aperture promotes smoother, more natural bokeh, and the lens is said to be highly resistant to dust and water, enabling shooting even in harsh conditions.

The ultrawide zoom 16-35mm Canon is especially popular amongst architecture, landscape, and sports photographers who want dramatic, sweeping vistas. This third-generation version features a new optical design with claimed improvements in outer and corner sharpness. The new optics include SWC Subwavelength Coating and ASC Air Sphere Coating, which Canon says significantly reduces flare and ghosting. The front and rear elements are fluorine-coated to reduce smears and fingerprints.

It features a fast constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, and nine circular aperture blades for smooth, pleasing Bokeh. Newly optimized AF algorithms work with the high-speed CPU, and inner focusing ring USM for fast, accurate autofocusing. Full-time manual focus is available, even while in AF mode.

Wi-Fi Adapter W-E1

Finally, Canon is bringing Wi-Fi to some of its most popular DSLR via the Wi-Fi Adapter W-E1, an accessory that is designed to fit in the SD card slot and is compatible with the Canon EOS 7D Mark II, EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R DSLRs. This allows users of these cameras to easily transfer images and videos (from the EOS 7D Mark II) in MP4 format to a compatible mobile device. Users can also remotely take pictures and set still photo camera settings from their devices.

In order to work, the Wi-Fi Adapter W-E1 must be inserted into the SD card slot. It doesn’t store images; for that you need to also use a CompactFlash card. In addition, the camera will need a firmware update in order to use the adapter. It has a range of 38 feet. The adapter is compatible with Apple iOS versions 8.0 through 9.3, and Android versions 4.1-6.0.

The Canon Wi-Fi Adapter W-E1 will be available from Adorama for .
