Zoom has been widely recognized for producing high-quality audio recorders, and the brand’s latest announcement doesn’t disappoint. The company announced the Zoom F6 multi-track field recorder earlier this year, and is now exhibiting the long-awaited unit at the 2019 International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam.
Created as an upgrade to and replacement for the F4, the F6 includes both 32-bit float recording and dual AD converters, bringing a never-before-seen amount of dynamic range. All of this means that users won’t have to adjust gain — the F6 will continue to record all sounds loud and quiet, explosive and subtle.

The unit has six built-in professional-grade preamps that are specifically engineered to handle sound on-location, and a precision time code will sync your tracks at all times (with 0.2 ppm accuracy). The added Zoom AutoMix feature also automatically adjusts your levels to keep ambient sound to a minimum, which allows you to focus on the entire production.
Key Features:
- 6 channels, 14 tracks
- 6 inputs with locking Neutrik XLR connectors
- Mic preamps with low noise floor (-127 dBu EIN), high gain (up to 75 dB)
- Switchable +4dB inputs with mic/line options
- Can record 32-bit float up to 96kHz, 24-bit up to 192 kHz, both in BWF-ready WAV
- Built-in camera mount adapter
- Accurate time code
- Zoom AutoMix software included
- Advanced look-ahead hybrid limiters
- USB-C connection, also as a power port
- 3.5mm stereo mini unbalanced output jack
- 100mW headphone amplifier with volume control SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot, up to 512 GB
- Can be powered by 4 AA batteries, Sony L-series batteries, or Zoom AD-17 12V AC Adapter
- Compatible with the Zoom F Control App for iOS

If you choose to record at 24-bit, the Zoom F6 has overload protection thanks to the advanced look-ahead hybrid limiters, which forecast clipping before you even hit the “record” button.
The compact unit — it weighs only 1.14 pounds — is also controllable wirelessly via the F Control app, which monitors signals, adjusts levels, triggers transport controls, allows you to enter metadata all via Bluetooth.
The Zoom F6 Multi-Track Field Recorder is available for preorder now for , with an expected delivery of fall/winter of 2019.
