Sony’s new LA-EA5, a 35mm full-frame A-mount lens adaptor, is opening Sony E-mount photographers up to the brand’s array of world-class A-mount lenses. This adaptor lets creatives capitalize on their Sony mirrorless camera’s impressive autofocus features, including real-time eye autofocus, wide-area focal phase-detection autofocus, and autofocus tracking, while seamlessly experimenting with the brand’s robust range of legacy A-mount lenses.

A compact autofocus and aperture drive tightly fits into the cylindrical adaptor. This feature guarantees a seamless and perfect fit with A-mount lenses. This cylindrical design also gives photographers adequate finger room when gripping the camera vertically; it’s built to mirror the feel of a native E-mount lens. Here’s what to expect from the eagerly anticipated Sony LA-EA5 lens adaptor, which is available for preorder now.

The Sony LA-EA5 lets photographers make the most of their E-frame camera features. All the while, it simultaneously enjoys the versatility and precision Sony’s beloved A-mount lenses are known for. With the LA-EA5, autofocus and high-speed shooting functions available with E-mounts across the mirrorless camera line can now work seamlessly with A-mount SSM (supersonic wave motor) and SAM (smooth autofocus motor) lenses, as well as A-mount lenses that lack internal focus motors. This means focal plane phase-detection autofocus, wide-area focal phase-detection autofocus coverage, real-time eye autofocus for humans and animals, autofocus and auto exposure tracking, and real-time tracking can now work with A-mount lenses — a union Sony photographers have been pining for. The small-but-mighty Sony LA-EA5 is available for preorder, with availability expected in October 2020.

Key Features:

  • Adapts any Sony A-mount lens to E-mount camera
  • Compact cylindrical design matches E-mount camera bodies
  • E-mount camera autofocus and auto-exposure features work with SSM, SAM, and motor-less A-mount lenses
  • Easy operation on E-mount bodies, with adequate room for vertical grip
  • Portable adaptor weighs 88 grams
  • Six-screw flange provides ridged, secure connection between camera and lenses

E-mount autofocus with A-mount lens versatility:

The LA-EA5 gives Sony E-mount photographers and videographers access to the brand’s robust line of A-mount lenses. Focal lengths and apertures run the gamut across Sony’s legacy A-mount lens line. Plus, with SSM (supersonic wave motor), SAM (smooth autofocus motor) lenses, and lenses without internal focus monitors, the LA-EA5 gives photographers the power to seamlessly capitalize on their E-mount camera’s autofocus features. That means E-mount photographers can now use focal plane phase-detection autofocus, wide-area focal phase-detection autofocus coverage, real-time eye autofocus for both human and animals, and auto exposure tracking with select A-mount lenses.

Vertical grip remains roomy:

While the LA-EA5 brings a whole host of A-mount lenses to the E-mount camera lineup, it does so without compromising on vertical grip. The LA-EA5 is compact as can be, and provides the same vertical-grip finger room as a native E-mount lens combination. Plus, the LA-EA5’s six-screw flange mirrors those of newer E-mount cameras, a feature that guarantees a strong and secure connection, which is especially important when using heavier A-mount lenses.

The Sony LA-EA5 is available for preorder for at Adorama.
