Nikon seems to be setting a precedent in the world of telephoto lenses. The new Nikon NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8 VR Lens — announced today — is positioned to be ultimate in super-telephoto performance. This could be a game-changer for sports, action, and wildlife photographers looking to make their subjects appear larger than life in crisp detail. Super-Telephoto Reach

Perhaps the most impressive feature of the NIKKOR 400mm lens is its build-in 1.4x teleconverter. This provides users with the ability to extend the lens’ reach to 560mm. For those who do not have the luxury of getting up-close and personal with their subjects — for example, bird photographers — this lens provides ample opportunity to capture the perfect shot.

No More Glare

It can be frustrating to constantly consider potential glare when mapping out your shots. Nikon understands these concerns and have answered with exceptional anti-reflection performance capabilities. The Nikon NIKKOR 400mm lens features the highest backlight tolerance in NIKKOR history. It features an innovative Meso Amorphous Coat to block incident light from virtually any direction. Meanwhile, an ARNEO Coat offers added protection.

Groundbreaking Autofocus

With this lens, Nikon is showing off its new Silky Swift VCM2 Autofocus which is expected to achieve higher speed and accuracy with a quieter operation. This is perfect for sports and wildlife photographers, who need to remain quiet to avoid distracting a subject. The drive sound in the Nikon NIKKOR 400mm lens is almost completely silent. Additionally, it achieves up to 5.5 stops of compensation. When used with the Nikon Z9, Synchro VR combines the in-lens and in-camera VR image stabilization systems for maximum results.

Intuitive Controls

This lens has a design meant for a no-look operation. For action photographers, this is the difference between getting the perfect shot or missing it altogether. Also, it has customizable Fn buttons, a new Fn ring, and Memory Set button for recalling focus position, control ring, manual focus ring and teleconverter switch. In no time, you can be utilizing all of these features without ever having to take your eye off the view.

The new Nikon NIKKOR 400mm lens will be on sale by the end of February 2022. You can preorder at Adorama today.
