DAVID P : Does the connection at the 3 legged base have some kind of ball head? Does it offer smooth movement when panning and rotating the monopod? IS the video head removable, in case I want to use a smaller/ligher head? I don't expect it to stand upright like a regular tripod, but would like a bit more stability than a conventional monopod.WILLIAM P : My friend just bought a similar Sirui carbon fiber model. The ball at the base has very fluid movement in all directions. The friction can be changed. So far, he is very happy with his new 'pod.DARRELL C : I have this monopod's bigger sibling, the A48TB. The base is a ball and socket and offers fairly smooth movement. The video head is removable and the monopod sports a 3/8"-16 thread to mount other heads. Panning can be done using the video head or the fluid cartridge directly above the ball/socket at the base. The video head's panning can be locked down, but the base cannot. Panning with the A48TB is fairly smooth at the base, but there is a tiny amount of static friction when rotating the ball in the base socket. Panning with the video head itself shows no static friction at all and pans perfectly smooth with higher drag than the base. The 3-Leg base definitely adds more stability than a standard monopod, a must if you're doing smooth panning shots. Although I can't speak for the smaller A38TB model, I hope this answers your questions!

Great for Gorilla film makers

Very sturdy and well built monopod. Was very impressed with the quality of the video head. Smooth pan and tilt right out of the box. I use this in the woods for nature video's and the three feet on the bottom hold up well in the elements. Very happy with this monopod it is my new favorite tool in my arsenal.
