Review Summary

Sometimes I forget just how much better B+W filters are than others. I again tried a more budget-oriented brand and finally had to replace it. These polarizers are just so good - very pronounced effect, smooth turning, no perceptible color cast, and I have never, not once had a B+W filter get stuck on a lens. I have used the top -of-the-line polarizers from B+W, but honestly this entry-level model is all I need for my professional work.

Circular polarizing filter is a must for landscape photography. The B+W was a great choice. It fits snuggly on the lens but is easy to take off when not needed. Allows plenty of light onto the sensor while blocking reflections from water or chrome. Gives nice rendering of colors without being overly saturated.

An excellent choice

Circular polarizing filter is a must for landscape photography. The B+W was a great choice. It fits snuggly on the lens but is easy to take off when not needed. Allows plenty of light onto the sensor while blocking reflections from water or chrome. Gives nice rendering of colors without being overly saturated.
From capturing the radiant white clouds against a deep blue sky to enhancing the deep hues of fall foliage, the 72mm Basic Circular Polarizer MRC Filter by B+W is an essential tool for both analog and digital photography. This filter is designed to augment the purity of intrinsic colors and boost color saturation, delivering vibrant and true-to-life images.
The B+W polarizer filter features a rotating mount, allowing photographers to visibly control the polarization effect directly through the viewfinder or on the monitor display. This feature offers a unique level of control, enabling you to adjust the filter to suit your specific photographic needs.
One of the key benefits of the B+W polarizer is its ability to reduce reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass, and glossy paint. This feature makes objects and people behind these reflective surfaces visible again, providing a fascinating image enhancement without the need for post-processing.
The B+W polarizing filters are circular polarizers, making them compatible with nearly all modern cameras that use beam splitters in the light path for TTL exposure metering or autofocus. This compatibility ensures that exposure errors are avoided, resulting in consistently high-quality images.
The filter's multiplying factor with HTC is 2 to 3, equivalent to 1 to 1.5 f-stops, while other polarizers can go up to approximately 3 stops. This makes the B+W polarizer filter a highly versatile tool for photographers.
For landscape photography, the maximum polarization effect is achieved when shooting at a 90-degree angle to the sun. To maintain an even effect in the picture and to account for uneven skylight polarization, it is recommended that your focal length should not be less than 28 mm in 35 mm format.
In an ideal situation, with the help of a properly oriented polarizer, reflections can be completely suppressed. The ideal situation refers to when the lighting and shooting angles are almost the same and correspond to the angle of maximum polarization, typically 30 to 40 degrees.
In summary, the 72mm Basic Circular Polarizer MRC Filter by B+W is a crucial accessory for photographers looking to enhance their images' color saturation and reduce unwanted reflections.
