Smith-Victor RS8, 8' Aluminum Light Stand with 5/8" Mounting Stud

I don't know how to rate these as I received two different types of lightstand with the same item # and same item# on box. I first bought two of these a few years ago. They fit into my 30" rolling bag with casters on. I recently decided to order one more for backup. A different style came instead. I returned it as it didn't fit into my case. However, as I started using 41" parabolic umbrellas recently I realized that the original Smith-Victor rs-8 stands were too shaky and they tipped over with that deep umbrella. I decided I do want the new rs-8 stand which is much sturdier. I ordered it and tested it out. It has cheap knobs but it works very well and is nice and sturdy. When I orderrd two more, guess what, I received 1 older version and 1 new one. Now I want a third of the new version but I'm afraid I'll receive an old version. So I took off a star for all of this inconvenience. However, both versions are great. The original is lightweight and folds to a small 26" length and can be used with small umbrellas. The new version is very sturdy and it works perfectly with the 41" Interfit deep parabolic umbrella. I tried numerous lightstands until I reached the conclusion that for a lightstand that folds this small to "28-29 there is nothing as sturdy as this. I only wish the knobs were smooth and better looking. But they do work well. If you order though, you can't be guaranteed which version you'll get which is ridiculous.

I bought 2 stands, they are very sturdy and I think they are great for the price.

These are great little stands for holding reflectors, flags, etc. They are also good for small flashes and slaves. Very light weight, good for what it is.
