Become a master of light manipulation with the 52mm 80A Tungsten to Daylight Conversion Glass Filter. This high-quality, durable filter is designed to effectively convert the color temperature of tungsten lighting (3200K) to daylight (5500K), enabling you to use daylight film with standard household incandescent lamps seamlessly.
This versatile filter, part of Tiffen's renowned 80 series, boasts a filter factor of 2.4, necessitating 1 1/3 f-stops of additional light. It's an essential tool for photographers and videographers who understand that all light sources, whether natural or artificial, have unique characteristics that impact color rendition on film.
Engineered for cameras and lenses with a 52mm filter size, this filter is designed to work with films optimized for daylight or tungsten photofloods, which are rated at 5500K degrees (daylight) and 3400K degrees (photofloods) on the Kelvin (K) color temperature scale.
The 52mm 80A filter is a reliable solution for 'warming', 'cooling', and correcting for the many variations of lighting you might encounter. It's important to note that all filters have a 'filter factor', a measurement of the light they absorb. Cameras with internal metering (through the lens) will automatically adjust the exposure, but with external or handheld meters, you must account for this factor.
While modern strobes (flash) are approximately 5500K and can 'overpower' household lighting, with daylight film, no filtration is necessary unless special effects are desired. The 80 series filters come in several strengths and are available in most sizes. Other 80 series filters include the 80B for use with tungsten photofloods and the 80C for use with clear flash bulbs.
For additional color correction options, consider the 85 series for tungsten film in daylight (the opposite of the 80 series), the 81 series for a warming effect, and the 82 series for a cooling effect (the opposite of the 81 series). For using daylight film in fluorescent lighting, the FL-D (daylight) filter is recommended, and for using tungsten film in fluorescent lighting, the FL-B (bulbs) filter is suggested.
With the 52mm 80A Tungsten to Daylight Conversion Glass Filter, you can confidently shoot in a variety of lighting conditions, knowing that your images will always be color-accurate.
