The only negative comment is that I can't control the cd player with my Yamaha Stereo Receiver remote only the cd remote causing multiple remote controls to be used. Also, NOT EASY AT ALL to add streaming channels to memory.

I have spent thousands of hours over the past 2.5 years in an attempt to achieve high-end Hifi SQ, on a budget that is anything but. The CD S was the last piece of the puzzle and I could not be more pleased. I have been a huge Yamaha fan, since My days in graduate school (84-86) when my first wife and I went into debt to purchase a Yamaha-Infinity based system displayed in the sound room of a local brick and mortar High-end Hifi Establishment located near Clemson U. My current system consists of a '93 Japanese manufactured Yamaha RX V1070 (Internal power amp section mated with a premium '91 Adcom (and hopefully one day Yamaha as well) Preamp, a Yamaha A S701 Integrated, I pair of Infinity Kappa 5.1s bookended by Twin Yamaha YST- SW315s, a pair of KEF Q150s, and a pair of Technics SB CR-33s. Somehow this diversity has resulted in great synergy. I also employ a Dell OptiPlex 7050, with Topping DAC (for streaming Tidal Masters-Hifi). Am using Blue Jeans and Mogami 2497 Analog Connectors, Panga USB and Digital Coax, and Install Gear 10 AWG OFC speaker wires with Media bridge plugs. My listening area is approx. 120 SQ.Feet and has been extensively treated in order to capitalize Accoustically. I realize that SQ can be highly subjective and subject to emotional-psychological factors. So, I can only share my personal experience regarding the system in general and this CD player. System far exceeds that of my High-end and High-end priced system from the 80s. Source material and technology has come a long way. And, I was using an expensive German turntable in the 80's, and I realize that is a unique experience. But, in rating the CD S300, my biggest and most pleasant surprise, came after learning that my Topping DAC was not compatible with this CD player. This forced me to take time to listen to to this device in Pure Direct mode. Like listening to Records, the CD experience is something to be appreciated on it's been own merits...No external DAC desired.

I was looking for a replacement for my twenty year old Marantz single disc CD player that was skipping, and would not play computer burned discs. After reading some reviews, I settled on this Yamaha player. It plays any disc I throw in to it, and has a nice open natural sound. I am very happy with it so far.

Excellent equipment. Noticeably better sound than my older, more expensive cd player. It may be the best player, in it's price range.

I have owned several Yamaha products over the years and they are all high quality with great and sound great. I purchased this CD player to replace my old Yamaha CD player. Once I installed the S300 I immediately noticed an improvement in the sound quality compared to my old Yamaha CD player. I could really hear the difference in the CD players. The S300 is crystal clear with a nice soundstage.. I primarily use this CD player with my tube headphone amp and my Grado PS 500e or Sennheiser 600 headphones... I am not disappointed with this CD player at all!!!!

I like the size of the product and the convenience of a one-disc player. I do not like the fact that I can't turn the product on from the remote. Why is that? I also don't like the fact that the player starts playing automatically on power up. After I turn it on (manually at the player), I have to stop it if I'm not ready to listen right then. Inconvenient.

I needed a replacement for my ancient Sony and this goes perfectly with my Yamaha receiver. Yamaha has a reputation for quality sound and construction and I hope this player holds up. Sound is good, everything works as it should. My only real complaints are the flimsy tray and no on/off on the remote. I haven't tried the USB feature, which is another selling point for this player if you have lots of music on a phone or thumb drive. No phone jack but I don't like listening on them anyway. All in all, good purchase.

Have had the CD-S300 now since the first of May. It is connected to an R-S300 receiver. It has a very clean sound with nothing added to the music being played whether from a CD or through the USB input. Like some of the other reviews I am also impressed by the quality of the DAC. I also connect my iphone via the lightning cable and playback through this connection is very listenable via the CD-S300 Burr Brown DAC. I use the pure direct at times and can tell a sizable difference in the clarity at a higher volume on the receiver. It matches well with the receiver and both look great in the rack. This is a very well thought out and engineered unit at this price point. (If I want to use headphones, I plug into the R-S300 and turn the speakers off)!

When I Played my cd's they sounded soo much more full bodied and rich in sound than my last player. Also the usb port played my mp3 files with full sound that when I compare a song with the same song on a cd I could not tell the difference.

My CD-S300 CD/MP3 player is the bee's knee. However, it is a replacement unit as I experienced a problem with the first. The problem was that, while in USB mode and playing MP3 files, it would occasionally and randomly freeze while scrolling a files's info (file name, etc...). The unit would then have to be powered off and back on after which it would behave normally.

I recently got a turntable, which was the start of a full revamp of my stereo setup. I bought this CD player after upgrading my amplifier. I got a Yamaha AS 301 (and love it!). This player is a perfect match aesthetically, as well in terms of performance. I am impressed with how good CDs sound! I am discovering nuances in songs I've heard hundreds of times! I attribute this to the Burr Brown DAC. It is great! Digital files from my iPhone sound great as well, since this player bypasses the phone's built-in DAC, and uses the Burr Brown. It is definitely noticeable. I couldn't be happier with it! One small con is the tray; it seems a bit flimsy, and it does not extend out fully.

I am a professional musician. I need good playback equipment. I own P&J Records (LLC) and Endless Shores Music Publishing Company. I use my CD player to playback rough mixes of recordings and final mixes and comparisons with mastering. It's got to be good. I have been using Yamaha audio equipment since 1991. They are great. My first Yamaha CD player lasted 25 yrs!!! The sound on this one is great - better than the previous one. Excellent value as well. I had it set up in 5 mins.

Before buying this player, I was confused between Marantz 5005 and This one. Having an USB port, helped me to take the decision and I purchased this one. And from the first moment I turned this on, I do not regret my decision. This is a great player with wide & accurate sound and the USB port is a fantastic addition. I have never heard my iPod sounding this great ever! This is a great purchase indeed.

I listen primarily to classical music and some jazz. The sound quality is acceptable but with a slight emphasis on high frequency, an emphasis that would prefer not to be present. It is certainly far better that the British brand I previously tried and disliked. This is certainly one of the better CD players I have listened to.

If you still like the sound of CDs like I do. Then you really like this Yamaha CD player. I have this player hooked up to a Yamaha HTR-4065 AV receiver, and Harman/kardon speakers and it sounds excellent! Great combo.

The Yamaha CD-S300 is an affordable CD player which doesn't compromise on quality. With its smart brushed aluminum fascia, silent-loading, high-precision drive and high-quality DAC, the CD-S300 gives you a superb acoustic delivery.
The CD-S300 will play CDs, including CD-R/-RW discs and also MP3 and WMA (Windows Media Audio) files both from disc and compatible USB memory sticks or portable MP3 players. It is also iPod compatible.
