I own and use a Deity D3 and the sound it produces is as close to real life as I've heard. When I saw the Pro version on sale I had to have it. I am NOT dissapointed. It's the best mic I've got.

I have a canon t5i, and as many know, canon cameras are known to have TERIRBLE preamps! So I bought the deity v-mic d3 pro and the audio quality has improved incredibly! If I’m recording directly into the camera, I change my audio settings in the camera to “manual” and lower the sound recording level all the way to 1. Then, I turn up the DB on the deity to 8-10 depending on the situation, and there’s NO HISS in the audio! I love this mic!! I will for sure use it as a boom in short films!

For the price, I don't think you can get a better on-board mic. I've had issues with other brands picking wifi and cellular signals up, but this mic is silent and has better sound. I have one small issue, and it's the charging light. I'm colorblind and can't tell the difference between "charging" and "charged" but that issue is so minor, that I still consider this a five-star product.

Ordered one and it did not hold a charge... so I took another chance and reordered a new one. Adorama made it quick and simple even with the pandemic. This is the first external mic I’ve ever purchased and used. Watched a few YouTube tutorials on how to set up and so far so good. Although I have nothing to compare it to, I’m happy with the quality.

Overall the Deity Microphones V-Mic D3 was amazing. I did have a little rf when using a wireless system (Rode wireless). It was not too bad. You can tell that the Deity engineers take huge pride and very dedicated when they created this mic. I have no doubt that Deity will continue to raise the bar of other major manufacturers.

Both my original D3 Pro and the warranty replacement unit have terrible noise interference from nearby phones. Audio is unusable unless I remember to place all phones in the room on airplane mode

This little baby is so light I can't tell it's mounted to the camera. It is a huge improvement to the built in camera mikes. It is very user friendly. I didn't have to read the manual to start using it.

i bought this mic through Adorama brand new and sat on for a couple months. when i finally got around to using it, it would not hold a charge, the mic has to be plugged in to a power source at all times in order for it to work. And I never received a responses from Adorama or Deity about my warranty or replacing it. i'm sure i'm not the only this happen to, so be careful you may purchase brick. I've been sticking with my Rode NTG-2, it's highly reliable.

Love this microphone! It has a great gain knob right on the back for control in every situation unlike other mics that only allow you to increase the gain by 10db, it really allows me to get the best audio i can in any given situation and for a great price.

Coming from the Rode Video Micro Go, this microphone feels leaps and bounds of quality over the former. It's aluminum instead of plastic so it's lightweight and solid. Love the stepless gain dial that's easy to use and being able to remove the microphone from the mount and use as a boom mic!

Versatile and intuitive to use, with a top quality. Came highly recommended from a sound mixer and every situation it has performed extremely well. The filters do a great job of cutting the wind on the fly, and the step-less gain dial is clutch. Oh and rechargable to boot! Say goodbye to AAA!

Big bang for the buck. See my video. This is an excellent alternative to the internal camera mic - it's ahead in quality by tons! The directional capacity is almost as good as a $1k broadcast-quality shotgun that the big news media crews use. Although obviously it won't match the big production houses' mics, it's also not designed to go on a $50k camera. You have to put it into perspective. You're not considering this mic for a $50k camera, lol. You're likely considering it for a DSLR that costs maybe $3k or less, and most likely less. I'm using it with my Canon 80D, a $1200 or so camera. I can't afford a $1k shotgun mic, and even then it would be difficult if not impossible to mount it on my camera. Instead, this Deity mic is perfectly designed for what I need. I need to mount it on my DSLR, and I need directional audio that will get the sound source that I CHOOSE simply by pointing in that direction. I also need the mic to reduce extraneous noises. THIS DEITY MIC DOES ALL OF THAT, AND MORE. I'm using it for client shoots, especially live events, when using lav mics is cumbersome or impossible. In the video I included as part of this review, I recorded a professional woman talking in a lightly-used restaurant within a large business complex. If I used the internal mic, the extraneous noise would've been a deal-breaker - I would not have been able to shoot this video. But w/ this Deity mic, I was able to be about 15 feet away from the subject, and get her voice clearly despite other people talking (though softly and sometimes not so softly) in the background! Yes, some extraneous noise will bleed through, but being that far away I know even a $1k mic will also get that extraneous noise. The audio quality was excellent - it's not tinny or echoey as it would be with a smaller Rode mic or internal mic. The quality also allowed me to run it through filters in Davinci Resolve, including audio boosting and normalizing. Do this w/ Canon's internal mic and you'd be disappointed. I also bought this mic because of the internal battery. I don't have to worry about dealing w/ extra batteries, etc., and I simply turn it off after the shoot. I can count on the Deity automatically going on standby every time my DSLR goes on standby. I can also increase or decrease input lvl on the fly w/o noticeable audio changes - although I did not do that in the shoot I include below. With the mic lvl set at 6 on the dial, that's plenty of gain for my DSLR. For noisier environments, I recently did another shoot where I had to adjust my DSLR audio lvl almost to 0 while keeping the Deity at lvl 6. That meant my DSLR would add little to no pre-amp noise! Of course by then it was so noisy that a little pre-amp noise wouldn't be noticeable. But it's nice to know that Deity's internal pre-amp has plenty of power and room to spare for my DSLR.

I'm new to microphones, but I've had a fun time using this shotgun mic. The pass filter takes out the buzz of my refrigerator at home and it's very simple to operate. No zoom/focus noise from my camera. I setup the mic from the tutorial on their youtube channel. Auto off is also a life saver, though it doesn't always seem to kick on properly. Still new with it. I'm using it with my GH5.

Amazing mic and cutting my workflow in half on the audio side. Sounds good raw, so doesn't need too much correction.

The Deity V-Mic D3 Pro is a great microphone, a huge improvement over the camera microphone. With a Zoom H2n recorder plugged in between the camera and the Deity, there is another huge improvement in sound quality.

Out of all the exhibitors at Cine Gear, Deity Microphones' V-Mic D3 Pro was picked for the 2018 Personal View's Best Product Award.
The World's First Smart Microphone
Inside the V-Mic D3 Pro lives a microprocessor that digitally shakes hands with the audio input it's been plugged into. The D3 Pro will work with a phone, tablet, DSLR, body pack transmitters; just about anything with a 3.5mm microphone jack. We have tested it on a dozen DSLR models, two dozen phones, a handful of Android based tablets and the microphone inputs on laptops. When plugged into devices that have a stereo microphone input, the V-Mic D3 Pro outputs dual mono tracks. It can also be adapted to some microphone inputs that use the mini XLR jack.
The World's Only Microphone with a Stepless Gain Knob
The V-Mic D3 Pro features a +20dB step-less analog gain adjustment dial. On each side of the dial the V-Mic D3 Pro features a bump guard that helps prevent the dial from being accidentally rotated. The +20dB of gain is added on a linear scale so you can dial in the exact amount of gain you need for the shot.
Internal Battery
Inside the V-Mic D3 Pro lives a 320mAh Lithium Ion battery. Run time for the V-Mic D3 Pro is 51 hours and will automatic turn off if left in standby mode for 15 minutes. The battery is charged in a little less than 2 hrs.
On-Board Low Cut Filters
The V-Mic D3 Pro features two levels of low cut: 75hz and 150hz. And instead of a switch that is sunken into the frame that's hard to toggle, the D3 Pro does it all with a single button on top of the unit. With two levels of low cut the V-Mic D3 Pro is ready for even the windiest day.
Rycote Shock Mount
We partnered with Rycote to design this unique, one of a kind on-camera shock mount. Our design allows you to mount the D3 Pro how ever you want: forward, middle, back. This means you can center it over your camera for perfect balance when using a gimbal. Underneath the hot shoe you will find a threaded female mounting point so you can mount it with a friction arm and use the V-Mic D3 Pro as a plant mic.
