The Atoms Ninja Flame is a great little for a reasonable price. I use it frequently outside and never have trouble plus it gives me a much better view of images that might be hard to assess with the rear view LCD.

Having an issue with the audio, I'm receiving an intermittent distortion while recording, what I would describe as a tininess or scratchiness that comes out of the blue and remains for anywhere from 4 to 5 minutes, up to 10 to 12 minutes. Would love to hear from you about a fix for this, thanks. Otherwise video is great.

In you are in the market for a monitor buy this now. The accessories in this kit are worth every penny and the monitor speaks for its self. If you want a big jump in quality and improved work flow this is truly a no brained. Great built quality !

Anyone shooting video with a mirrorless or dslr need to own one of these. Improves video quality to another level offering another mic input so you are not pick up lens noise. I purchased this about a month ago and don’t know how I did video work without this before. Absolutely amazing!

I would definitely recommend the recorder. Being able to handle the multiple cameras in my inventory and audio is such a plus. Love the tab on the back missing from the other model so my drive doesn’t fall out. Easy to carry, mount and use.

The Ninja Flame is brighter than is predecessor and is packed to the gills with features. Focus peaking, scopes, waveforms, false color, HDR, and the ability to add custom LUT's for live viewing just to name a few, are WONDERFUL!! The features of this monitor saves you A TON OF TIME in post-processing. Build quality is great. It's a good balance in build quality and weight; using composites helps when being using on a DSLR rig when weight and balance is a real concern.

Despite some over heating issues, which I think are due to my drives, I really like the device and it is perfect for my legal videography business. Picture size and quality are amazing. I use this for backup video and love it.

Best monitor recorder in the market till now but honestly I don’t like the out look and weight , it is quite heavy ... if you are a mirror less camera user you”ld need camera cage and heavy duty infinity arms for this. 1500 nit is the best part of this recorder monitor.

From the numerous times I've played with and tested this recorder, I can safely say this is a purchase a do not regret. I do have more liberty to color edit and get a look that I more satisfied with. Using the GH4 has been great, but this just brings out the inner beast of that camera. Almost 2 years with that camera and after buying the Shogun. I'm still keeping it and not upgrading to the GH5.

I am loving the ease of use of the Ninja Flame. The customizable touchscreen display and the option to use separate audio input make this a very versatile unit. I also like the fact that it is fairly lightweight, making it easy to mount on a shoe mount. Word of warning for those new to this product: DO NOT hold down the power button to power on the unit, it is possible to corrupt the firmware. This is NOT mentioned in the user guide.

I hooked up my 5DMkIV and turned on the monitor. Switching the camers to Live-view allowed me to see what the camera sees. There is no discernable delay, however I am not watching bullets fly! I am using a 15 foot HDMI cable.

This is a great monitor/recorder with a variety of options when recording. The screen quality is impeccable, and the flexibility in applying luts, zebra pattern visibility, and other features is amazing. The one issue that I had is that when recording very long segments (like >45 min), the video files began to break up. In other words, I would have one very large file, and other smaller length files for the entire recording. This also resulted in some missing footage. I was using an SSD recommended by Atomos. Not sure what other users have experienced but this was what I experienced.

If you shoot video with a DSLR and shoot anything that has a run duration of more than 20 mins the Atoms is the way to go. Plus you get better image quality than the camera recording.

We bought the ninja flame at the last minute in order to be able to record two full days of dealer meetings. Without much time to research all the possibilities we were able to get it set up and recording in less than an hour. Super happy with ease of use and of course the quality of the unit and the beautiful footage it captured. After filming a few minutes we noticed there was a small delay in lip sync but we were able to make a quick adjustment of about 4 frames in the audio settings on the flame and it never got out of sync again. We recorded 16 hours of 1080p HD video and it took a little over 500gb of space when we transferred the footage to the computer. Great unit and we are looking forward to using it for all our future meetings.

The features and functionality of this device are outstanding. However, I did end up returning it in favor of the PIX-E5H because the build quality felt extremely cheap and delicate to me. I need gear that can take a beating so the PIX was just a better fit for me.

It's not the cheapest, or the most expensive, but it is the absolute perfect recording monitor on the market right now. It's well-built, it works all the time, and it's fully-featured. I can't think of a single thing it doesn't do that you would need it to do. It has a really bright screen, and for those ridiculously sunny days, it comes with a sun hood. If I had to nitpick, I'd say having both heavy batteries on one side of the device doesn't seem to be the best design to balance weight, but that's really just being picky because it hasn't been a problem. With HDR, it's a future-proof piece of technology, and to boot, you can use it as a color-correction monitor when you go to grade your footage. Simply a great piece of equipment.

Love it. Easy set up. Great performance. The camera shoe mount is not practical, better using an articulating arm.

Use this mostly when I am in a locked down environment. Monitor functions are great to quickly establish exposure, color balance and highlights. Waveform, RGB parade, False Color and Blue screen (for noise) are all helpful for optimized setup. Peaking and Zebras functions also are excellent. Working well for me with Nikon D810 and Sony XDCAMS. Avoids time limitation of DSLR. At 7", probably too big to practically use on a rig, but then again, I have found the ergonomics of DSLR not suited for run and gun anyway, IMHO.

I don't really have many complaints at all about the ninja flame, at least after using it for just 2 shoots. My only negatives are actually really good things: First, the file size- it's amazing quality video, I'm just not looking forward to constantly buying new hard drives. Second, the size- I knew what I was in for when I purchased the machine, so I can't complain at all about this one, but I do sometimes wish the screen was a little smaller for weight and portability reasons.

Works great, the monitor is a bit larger than expected, but works fine. Image quality is unmatched and the unit offers the right options for recording. Easy to use.

I am primarily using to record and de-squeeze my gh4 and bmpcc anamorphic shots, and it is amazing!!! Outputting at 10-bit for gh4 at 4K is awesome! I'd have to say though, that so far I'm digging my cameras flat output better than atomos HDR function. I have not used HDR function because whenever I toggle back and forth I never really think it looks that good .... clipped highlights and over saturated and crushed blacks aren't what I think of as a good looking image. Perhaps my HDR needs an update? Who knows :) But looking at how amazing this monitor is, I'm almost creating excuses to be able to use this thing on any project, and that's saying something pretty profound considering I like lightweight quick and handheld setups.

Ninja Flame
Change the way you shoot with Log. Record Log in 4K or HD ProRes/DNxHR from DSLR's with the Ninja Flame's HDMI input and thanks to the AtomHDR engine's combination of 10+ stops dynamic range, 1500nit brightness and 10-bit color processing you can monitor the HDR Log with vivid, natural colors.

Atom HDR - Shoot What You See
Camera Log (S-Log2, S-Log3, C-Log, V-Log etc) delivers maximum sensor detail in your recordings, but on monitors it looks washed out & makes judging exposure difficult. The compromise for filmmakers is to use LUT's to get the approximate "look" but sacrifice detail or use calibration cards, waveform & some 'rule of thumb' figures to set exposure correctly. AtomHDR is the solution, accurately displaying HDR Log footage with the brightness to see Log as the eye sees it.
Scenes Ignite with 1500 Nits of Light
Not all scenes call for HDR Log recording. In situations that don't call for 10 stops of dynamic range, use the intensity of the 1500nit panel to monitor traditional standard dynamic range (SDR/Rec709) video at high brightness for outdoor monitoring.
Simply pick the right mode, HDR or High Bright SDR, and get busy setting up your shot on the premium 7" display boasting 10-bit processing, 1920x1200 resolution, 325ppi pixel density, optional calibration to overcome natural LCD color drift and an arsenal of precision video setup tools for perfect shots every time.
Get More from your DSLR
The perfect partner for DSLR and Mirrorless cameras with Log output over HDMI. From gimbal operators to Corporate to Indy filmmakers, your recordings are instantly upgraded to the defacto standard for Hollywood, Indie and Broadcasters (ProRes and DNxHR), ensuring you're not technically rejected in Post and letting you see the detail of your camera's Log on set with natural colors on the calibrated 7" AtomHDR High Bright monitor.
Affordable Reliable Media
The combination of high capacity media with recording direct from the sensor means that the conventional 30min barrier imposed by many cameras can be bypassed.
Record Professional 4K and HD
Recording 4K and high frame rate HD within the camera might seem enough but unless you record with the right codec you're restricting flexibility in post and even run the risk of having your footage technically rejected. Along with the high pixel density of 4K, the Ninja Flame records higher resolution 10-bit color information, more precise yet efficient 4:2:2 color encoding and to visually lossless, edit-ready codecs like Apple ProRes or AVID DNxHR.
Now you're recording professionally, capturing full individual frames just like film and opening up more creativity in post and grading. Additionally, bypassing internal recording also bypasses the 30min recording barrier found on many Mirrorless/DSLR camera.
Simple OS, Sophisticated Shots
Atomos' flexible OS is packed with an extensive suite of scopes, all 1-touch away and simple to use. The Video OS includes tools for focus, framing & exposure (Focus peaking, 2:1/1:1 zoom, Zebra, False Color, Frame guides, SMPTE Safe Area, Waveform, RGB parade, vectorscope) along with a flexible 3D LUT implementation (use built-in LOG to Rec.709 Video or upload .cube files) and options for anamorphic de-squeeze monitoring.

Continuous Power is Back - with Super Fast Charging
Atomos' patented continuous power system pioneered on Atomos' HD products are back on the 4K range. The hot swappable dual battery system that automatically swaps to the second battery when power is low, coupled with the blazingly fast battery charger and dual 4-cell batteries means that continuous power in the field is all but assured.
Advanced DSLR Audio Monitoring
Record audio as well as video externally on the Ninja Flame. Monitor up to 8ch of HDMI audio or 2ch analog line in on the dedicated audio meters, all locked frame accurate with adjustment for frame delay, gain adjustment and Mic level adjustment when using external microphones (3.5mm unbalanced input).
Advanced Recording Capability
Outside of 10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes/DNx, the Ninja Flame adds recording functionality not found in other recorders. Trigger start/stop recording over HDMI from select Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Nikon cameras. Convert interlace video from your camera to progressive on the fly with built-in 3:2 and 2:2 pulldown and gain advanced functionality like Pre-roll (continuous cache recording to never miss the action) and Time lapse to maximise your creativity.
Battle Ready! - for the Field
Atomos' built-in armor enhances protection and airflow whilst the raft of optional accessories (2 x NP series 4-cell batteries, fast battery charger, USB3 docking station, XLR breakout cable, Lanc cable, DC to D-Tap cable, 5 x Master Caddy cases, DC adapter & HDR sun hood) and the premium HPRC flight case ensures you're ready to hit the field immediately.
