A documentary filmmaker looking for another inexpensive and reliable drive. And I found it in the 4TB G-Raid. I've owned just about every hard drive that under a $ price tag. The stackable feature of these G-Raids makes me wish that I could trade all my LACIE Quadras for these. You are getting a sturdy, striped, RAID drive out of the box and that is something to admire. Setting up a RAID is not a big deal, but out of the box readiness is always a positive. G-Technology has really gone above and beyond to make it easy for pros and amateurs to take advantage of the striped RAID. Which you need when you're editing. Don't be scared of using Firewire because a striped raid is extremely fast. You really don't need to spend an extra $100 on the thunderbolt unless youre looking for fast Transfer speeds. The working speeds are nearly the same when you edit video. So don't get tricked by thunderbolt offering 5gbps - that only applies to transfer speed. Overall great drive. Great price. Much sturdier than the Lacie drives. And they are stackable if you are looking to save space on that cluttered desk. If you're a freelance editor this is the choice for editing. look for the four letter RAID on the box and make that purchase!

I use this product specifically for video production, backup all files and for file transfer. Great quality and amount of space specially since HD videos are large files.

Had difficulty reformatting for PC but I figured it out anyway. I like the options of using (either) SATA, USB, and Firewire 800, as this adds to it's versatility.

I use the drive for video editing and it works fine. I wish there was usb 3.0, but can't complain.

we use these for HD video editing and (knock wood) have never had a single problem. we mirror the media on a duplicate set of drives, which makes the dangers of losing media if one of the drives in the RAID crashes seem less drastic, which is really the only con of these drives. very fast and efficient, mount well, and are real workhorses.

I bought this to be my sample and project drive for a digital audio workstation but when producing and selecting a new sample it literally halts the entire program to spin up for between 10-30 seconds. Really puts a damper on creative flow.
