Review Summary

I just moved over from DSLR to the MFT format and had very little knowledge of MFT lens quality save for reviews on the internet. I knew I wanted a walk around lens similar to my 18-200mm Nikkor. I have to say, I found it with this lens. I would have liked it to be a bit faster...my Nikkor was f3.5 at least. But so far, it hasn't been an issue. If I'm going to be shooting in low light, I'm likely going to put on the M. Zuiko 12-40 f2.8. It focuses quickly and image quality has been quite pleasing.

This lens is a replacement for a Panasonic 14-140 f4-f5.6 lens. It does the same job at the same lens speed with comparable quality at half the weight so what's not to like? It would have been nicer if it was a stop or two faster, but then the cost and the weight would also be increased. Size, quality, price; pick any two. This lens is my two. So far I'm happy and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to any Oly shooter.

The biggest issue, and that applies to pretty much all DSLR kit lenses is that they are slow (Maximum aperture of f/4 when wide) but the aperture changes as you zoom in to an f/5.6 at 150 mm.

Great all around lens, although not good for flash photography in very dark settings, and or at night, since the longer lens barrel casts a shadow from the flash. Otherwise, it's ok for simple use of the flash as in fill light situations.

Easy to carry lens, good IQ not the fast, not the best in low light but it responds fine in most of the conditions.

Learn about the OLYMPUS 14-150mm f/4-5.6 MICRO 4/3
Light and small might have been words once synonymous with “cheap” and “low-tech.” No more. We live in the 21st century, where small computer chips are capable of running our whole lives from the palms of our hands. And 21st century technology requires a 21st century zoom lens. At Adorama, we’re talking about the OLYMPUS 14-150mm f/4-5.6 MICRO 4/3 – BLACK zoom lens, a lens capable of delivering astonishing power for its size, which is about 65 percent smaller and 70 percent lighter than the comparable 10x ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 18-180mm f/3.5-6.3. What does that mean for you? It’s a portable package for a lot of zooming power. Consider:
We know at Adorama that, sometimes, big things come in small packages. Never has that been more true than with the OLYMPUS 14-150mm f/4-5.6 MICRO 4/3 – BLACK lens.
From the Manufacturer
The high-power wide-angle to telephoto M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14 150mm F4.0 5.6 zoomlens is 65 percent smaller and 70 percent lighter than the comparable 10x ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 18 180mm F3.5 6.3, making it ideal for everything from portraits and indoor scenes to sports and landscape photography.
By maximizing the advantages of the Micro Four Thirds System design, compact size, low weight and amazing image quality, this lens significantly expands the photographic potential of the system.
The inner focusing mechanism uses a light, compact, single-element unit to enable exceptionally fast, quiet autofocusing for smooth, superior operating ease during still and video capture. The manual focusing mechanism is designed to offer a responsive feel and precise operation, enabling you an affordable, high-quality means to capture your life in stills or HD videos.
The lens offers quieter and more responsive AF performance, and provides professional image quality for capturing amazing still images and videos. It is compatible with all Micro Four Thirds System Olympus PEN cameras, and all other current and future cameras that comply with the Micro Four Thirds System standard.
When mounted on an Olympus PEN camera, the lens is stabilized thanks to the camera's in-body Image Stabilization system and offers effective shake compensation at all focal lengths.
The Micro Four Thirds System standard meets the telecentric requirements of dedicated digital design. Light rays strike the imaging element nearly head-on for optimum edge-to-edge image reproduction.
It also enables much more compact design than the Four Thirds System standard (or other interchangeable lens systems) because it reduces the outer diameter of the lens mount by 6mm, and thedistance from the lens mount to the sensor (the flange back distance) by approximately half.
As a result, M.ZUIKO DIGITAL Micro Four Thirds System lenses offer uncompromising professional quality for capturing both still-images and High-Definition (HD) videos, and the lenses are exceptionally compact to make capturing your life more fun.
