This lens is very small and light, and makes it very easy to carry around on my GH5ii. The bokeh it generates at open apertures is decent, however bokeh balls towards the edge of the frame are distorted into a cat?s eye shape. This isn?t necessarily a bad thing, but it is something to note. It can focus close enough to do some macro shots. It is adequately sharp. My only complaint is that the focus ring does wiggle a little bit, which makes me question the build quality? but there are going to be trade offs with a lens at this price. For the price, this lens is fantastic, and I would very much recommend it to beginners. If Olympus can fix the loose focus ring, that would be fantastic, but as it is, I?d definitely recommend buying it.

This lens makes beautiful images! It's at least as clear as my Oly 14-40 PRO zoom, but has a really nice Bokeh you can't get on the 2.8 zoom, way better for low light, and at a fantastic price! I think it would be perfect for gimbal use as well, because of the very low profile size and weight! It's the perfect prime companion to the Pro zoom for that nifty fifty classic prime look.

What is odd is that Olympus is possibly going out of business with JIP purchasing them. Everyone says full frame is the future. But when it came down to it. I couldn't find a camera that matches these specs, IQ, size and price. When people say Olympus has some of the best glass they are right. I love taking this camera back country skiing with the weather sealing but is small enough to shoot my nephew's birthday. And image quality to shoot a wedding. This was my first camera in the m43 arena. I'm really impressed and hoping JIP can do good things with what really is a very quality product.

Fabulous lens for a reasonable price. Images from this lens are tack sharp and the f/1.8 max aperture yields great bokeh. A great add in anyone's kit.

More than from a zoom or any other lens, I want superior optical performance from a prime lens, and this lens has it. The MTF charts for this and the M.Zuiko 25mm Pro show that this lens is the better of the two in the performance aspects that matter to me, and my experience with it bears that out. As a WWII living historian portraying a Signal Corps officer, I shoot a lot of B&W, and I am well pleased with the results I get from this lens on my PEN-F. The sharpness falls off very much like that of the human eye, like an old Zeiss Tessar. I love all of my M.Zuiko lenses, wouldn't trade them for anything else, but this 25mm ?/1.8 lens is the one I wouldn't be without.

The lens is nice and small and is decently made. Fits my E-M1 perfectly. I enjoy shooting it, but when shooting into the light and overexposing the highlights the purple fringes are massive and impossible to remove well. The fringing is worse than on the 12-40 mm Zoom and does not go away completely when stopping down to f/5.6. The lens does not fit my style of shooting at all and I sadly returned it to Olympus.

I've only recently received this lens, so I intend to follow up with a second review in due course, after I've spent more time with it. First impressions match what others have posted here, so no need to rehash. Suffice it to say that either it, or the new new 12-25 F4 PRO lens will be on my OMD E-5 Mark III, 99% of the time (I'm leaving that other 1% for a future lens, probably a prime). As this is my first prime, I will need to get use to it a bit more compared to a zoom, but even so, the few test shots I've taken in absolutely horrid light have been impressive so far. Quick to focus, words are sharp and certainly legible, etc. I'm clearly in the enthusiast group of photographers, and am no pro, nor do I have such aspirations. But I'm fortunate enough to have this particular camera/lens combo (I bought the E-5 kit w/the 12-45, so the 25mm is an add-on). But with these two lenses, I can accomplish much of the types of photography I'm into. The 25mm in its own right could be an awesome "kit" lens with this camera body as well, it's so versatile--though I understand why short zooms tend to be the norm. Anyway, it's an excellent one-two punch for whatever constitutes your lens collection as I expect that most of us have a go-to lens (for me that'll be the 12-45 much of the time), but the 25mm could satisfy that role too; having both at one's disposal is icing on the cake.

This is a great little street/portrait lens, surprisingly good performance in low light, it can also produce a great bokeh effect, which proves the myth that m 4/3's are not good bokeh busted.

This lens has captured wonderful moments while I was backpacking. It's the perfect combination of weight and bulk, fitting in any small camera bag, whilst able to take amazing night shoots. Perfect if you like to walk around and use your legs as a zoom. Suits well to city photographers and world travelers!

This is the lens I leave on my body most of the time, and then if I need to, I switch from this. But its super sharp and the perfect focal length for most of my shots! I love this little lens.

Outstanding lens, very sharp edge to edge. While mostly plastic except for the metal mount, the build seems to be very sturdy. A very small and light weight lens. Laughably, because of the small size, I fumbled a little getting used to holding the camera without placing my hand under the lens. Yes, I would recommend this lens.

I am totally sold on the Olympus M. Zuiko micro four thirds lenses. Although I do not (yet) have any of the ‘Pro’ designated zoom lenses, my selection of the three primes for all around use pleases me very much for utility, lens speed, and sharpness. Lately I have been practicing street photography. I use a wide angle for ‘in the crowd’ shots, a mild telephoto (45mm) for ‘drive by’ shots, and the ‘standard’ 25mm I just purchased for everything else. These lenses are compact, light, and everything I need for my present pursuits.

Great lens, I've borrowed one from a friend numerous times and just purchased my own. Fast and the right focal length!

I was worried about a lens made of plastic, but the build quality and feel are great. Photos are nice and sharp.

Ok really whats not to like about a small, fast and always on point lens? Nice clean and crisp photos and beautiful creamy boke background. Perfect all around lens, from landscape to portrait, go ahead and try it today.

This is a fast and light weight lens that is sharp even when stopped down to F2. Focusing is fast and accurate. I would recommend this lens to anyone looking for a 'nifty fifty' focal length.

Good lens to leave it on my em5 mark ii and carry it around. The 50mm view is little restricted depending on your perspective but can be used for decent bokeh portraits coupled with 45mm f1.8 and regular street photos. The lens is sharp like the 45mm f1.8.

This is the lens that lives on my camera. Equivalent of a 50mm FF FOV, its the view you see with your eyes. Perfect compliment to any M4/3 camera.

This lens is four times as fast as the kit EZ 14-42. That makes it great for indoors and lower-light situations. It's also tack sharp and fast to focus. The bokeh at f1.8 is really nice. It will work for a portrait lens, but if your subject is one person, be prepared to get a little too close to them. It will look great in the end, but the 45mm f1.8 would give you more comfortable distance for personal portraits. For me, the 50mm equivalent looks more like what I see with my own eyes, though some prefer the 35mm equivalent. Just get it already.

I haven't had a chance to use this lens much yet, but what I have used it I think I will like it. I needed something to shot indoors in low light and I believe this will do the job. Seems to be very sharp at wide open apertures. Good price and great service.

Incredible IQ/value. 25mm isn't my favorite Focal length, but this lens is superb for the price. Even compared to the Pro F1.2, it compares very favorably at a fraction of the price. Tiny/light/solid and great IQ, fast lens.

I bought this lens shortly after I got my OMD-EM1, I'm so happy I made the purchase. It is so crystal clear, bright and very portable. Colors are great and lens is super sharp, even at F1.8. Great for low light conditions no need for a flash. I love using this lens for videos also.

I just recently purchased this lens. Very fast auto focus. Nice color rendition. Only dwaw back. No manual clutch like the 17mm lens. This feature should be on all olympus lenses.

The only downside of this lens is that it's plastic parts might fool you into thinking this is a mediocre lens. Contrary to what the MTF chart say, the image is sharp even in the edges in real use. Before 25mm PRO, this lens was the best standard prime lens. In my opinion, even when compared to 25mm PRO lens, this lens shines. Very nice bokeh for portrait photos, and crisp image for street snaps or landscape photos. And this lens is one of the few first party MFT lens with a clear light burst. All in all, this is a must buy lens for any MFT photographer.

Great Value for Money

My current kit includes a 75 MM F 1.8 and a 12-40 pro. Although they do the job extremely well, I was stuck in situations where I wanted the shallow depth of field to not be too shallow. I tried achieving that with a 12-40 Pro, however, I felt I was unable to get the desired effect. This lens is fast, compact, provides sharp pictures and is generally the lens I leave on the camera on most times. I was tempted to get the Panasonic 25 MM F 1.4, but did not feel the need to dole out extra $...

No subject is out of the reach of the Olympus 25mm.
By Daniel M.
During the so-call 35mm film era we use to call it the "normal" lens. The one optic that came almost the facto with any camera model ... and the most economical one too! If you are looking through it (via you viewfinder) it respect roughly our eye sight for the proportion of the subject. So it was and still is a very previsible lens. Parts of the Olympus fine lens line-up there are two versions of this normal lens: the M. Zuiko 25mm F1.8 and the Pro 25mm F1.2 the latter has been introduced la...
