The number one question we are asked about shooting at Beautiful Destinations is how we use light. The images we create and those of the creators we work with are so unique in the perspectives they capture and the way they use light and color. All photographers know that the best natural light comes around sunrise and sunset, but over the last few months, we’ve been exploring shooting in suboptimal light- even pitch black – by using Lume Cubes. Lume Cubes are portable, durable flashlights for smartphones, GoPros, digital cameras, and drones. They’re waterproof, provide up to 1500 lumens of light and are controlled by a smartphone app that can dim and brighten up to 100 cubes at once. At less than $80 for a single cube, they are a fraction of the price of traditional external flash lighting and weigh so little that we’ll constantly travel with 5-10 cubes in our camera bags.
