Before NAB 2019 kicks off in Las Vegas, Canon is announcing four exciting new camcorders to their existing professional lineup. The Canon XA40 and XA45 are new offerings for journalists and broadcasters, while the XA50 and XA55 have creative video production capabilities. All four cameras pack exceptional video quality into mobile frames.
Canon XA45 & XA40 4K UHD Pro Camcorders:
Key features:
- 1/2.3-inch, 8.29-megapixel CMOS Sensor
- DIGIC DV 6 image processor
- UHD 30p and FHD 60p video recording
- 4ch, 16-bit LPCM audio recording
- 20x optical zoom, and 8-blade circular aperture
- Dual SD slots, simultaneous recording
- 3.0-inch LCD touch panel
- Weighs less than three pounds, removable handle
Record to Quick Upload:
As mentioned, the XA40 and XA45 are primed for journalists thanks to the cameras’ ability to handle the 24-hour news workflow. Both cameras are capable of simultaneously recording in Full HD and Ultra HD (4K) in the MP4 format — ready to be uploaded to the web immediately. They can even record in different bit rates if the user needs to scale down the size to save capacity, or scale up the size for quality. Broadcasters can capture all the content they need without having to worry about encoding time for the web.
Both cameras have 20x optical zoom, and the XA40 and XA45 are designed with a 1/2.3-inch CMOS Sensor and DIGIC DV 6 image processor, so even when zoomed in, the picture quality stays detailed and crisp.
Journalists are often expected to be one-person production teams, and the XA40/XA45 gives users quality without having to worry about bulk. The XA40/XA45 weigh less than three pounds and have a removable handle for easy packing and storage.
The XA40 () and XA45 () are available now at Adorama.
Canon XA55 & XA50 4K UHD Pro Camcorders:
Key features:
- 1.0-inch, 8.29-megapixel CMOS Sensor
- DIGIC DV 6 Image Sensor
- UHD 30p and FHD 60p video recording
- 4ch, 24-bit LPCM audio recording
- 15x optical zoom, and 8-blade circular aperture
- Dual Sd slots, simultaneous recording
- Dual pixel AF and Focus Guide
- 3.0-inch LCD touch panel
- Body weighs 2.1 pounds
Multiple Audio Channels and Focus Guide:
The XA50 and XA55 are similar to the previous cameras, but are built more for mobile video production. Unlike the XA40/XA45, the XA50/XA55 have a 1.0-inch CMOS sensor, 15x optical zoom, 4 channel 24-bit audio recording, Dual Pixel AF, and Focus Guide.
Four channels of audio recording come in handy when a field recorder isn’t available. Producers can still record multiple tracks and capture all the necessary voices and sounds without having to worry about hauling around an audio recorder.
Canon’s Dual Pixel AF ensures every frame is in focus whether the shooter is shooting in 4K at 30 frames per second or full HD at 60 frames per second. Furthermore, Focus Guide provides visual arrows to direct users when manually focusing on a subject or object.
The XA50 () and XA55 () are available for preorder now at Adorama.
Canon Vixia HF G60 4K UHD Camcorder:

With a 15x optical zoom lens, 5-axis optical image stabilization, a 3.0-inch touch screen LCD, 0.24-inch electronic viewfinder, a dual pixel CMOS AF, and a 9-blade iris, this new recorder lets users capture slow and fast-moving subjects with ease.
