Going Wireless:
If you’re shooting product photography or portraits in a studio, you’re more than likely using wired tethered shooting. You may be using wired tethered shooting outside the studio, as well, if you can manage it. While tethered shooting is the norm when it comes to studio work, it comes with cables and wired connections. Now, Tether Tools is making the tethered shooting process more versatile by providing a wireless connection system. With the Air Direct Wireless Tethering System, shooters can be mobile while working.
“The Air Direct Wireless Tethering System revolutionizes tethered photography workflow giving photographers the freedom to integrate wirelessly with any tethering software that meets their requirements,” says Josh Simons, President & CEO of Tether Tools, in an announcement. “Until now, a cable was the only way to connect directly to the most powerful tethering software solutions. Today, we’re giving photographers the mobility they desire while maintaining their current workflow.”
The Air Direct setup is simple. The Air Direct is the transmitter and connects directly to the camera via USB-C. The Air Direct can sit in the hot shoe, on a tripod, or mounted on a clamp. The Air Direct has its own battery so will not drain from your camera. If you’re shooting for several hours, larger USB batteries can be used or AC wall power.
While shooting, the Air Direct will deliver your images, both RAW and JPEG, straight to your computer or mobile device wirelessly by setting up a PTP (picture transfer protocol) with Air Direct Utility software. The connection is effective in a range up to 200 feet and fires at a 5x faster transfer speed. To receive the images on their computer, users only need to open their preferred shooting software. Within the tethered shooting software, users can view their images and use all other native software functions (shooting settings, tag image, LiveView, etc.) If you’re opting for a mobile device, users can use the Air Remote App to receive images and to access shooting controls like live view, bracketing, focus stacking, etc.
Compatibility:
The Air Direct wireless system is compatible with the following cameras: Canon, Fuji, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Panasonic LUMIX, Phase One, Hasselblad, Leica. In terms of tethering software, it is compatible with: Capture One, Lightroom, DarkRoom, Smart Shooter, and others. To use the Air Direct Utility Software to connect to your tether software, users need MacOS High Sierra or later, or Windows 10 and later. And to use the Air Remote Mobile App, shooter must have iOS 8 or later, or Android 4.03 or later.
The Tether Tools Air Direct Wireless Tether System is available for preorder now for at Adorama.
