IBC2024 is a convention held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, that brings together professionals from tech, community, business, and content sectors. If you’re into gear like we are, you’re probably already familiar with it. This year, the event takes place from September 13th to 16th at the RAI (Amsterdam’s Convention Center) and is an experience not to be missed. The atmosphere is unlike anything I’ve encountered before. You can network and enhance your connections, get to know various brands, draw inspiration, and discover new opportunities—all while enjoying handmade pasta and refreshments like espresso at a booth. The thoughtfulness of both the creators and business professionals is truly unmatched.
Day one of IBC2024
The day began with rain tapping on people’s raincoats and a cool temperature of 50 degrees, but no one seemed to mind. A sea of backpacks surrounded me, all eager to get through the lines first, and the sight of new releases brought smiles to everyone’s faces. Cameras, gimbals, and phone rigs were everywhere, marking the start of preparations.
In my role managing content, I ensure we have all the assets needed to publish on 42west and AdoramaTV. I quickly pulled out my phone and, along with the video team, utilized the app provided to save the locations of each booth we intended to visit and interview.
Before I continue, I want to highlight a few things that made this venture run smoothly. How can I boast about this success without oversharing how easy the process has been? Right! I’ll write a blog post to share it universally.
When we learned that part of our content team would attend the event, we immediately signed up for passes to secure our spots. This decision led to a flood of emails filling our inboxes from brands worldwide, wanting us to stop by and learn about their offerings. The convenience of booking appointments in advance and organizing our list was seamless. Additionally, we were kept informed every step of the way—from receiving our media badges ahead of time at the Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport when we landed to obtaining a four-day travel pass for the convention. Everything worked efficiently!
Travel goods I brought to the show
- My Apple MacBook Air laptop, along with its charger
- Phone plus global power adapter with IBC2024 app installed for quick access
- The Fujifilm X-T5 with the XF 16-55mm f/2.8, the XF 33mm f/1.4 R lenses (including extra batteries), and my SanDisk cards
- Pen and Moleskine notebook
- My backpack
- An adapter in case I need to upload anything to my hard drive
- My wraps to keep it all protected
- Headphones in case I need to listen to footage
Of course, you can add or remove several things, such as business cards and water bottles, for less runaround and hydration.
Awe-striking Gear
Regarding product launches, we often look for that “wow” factor. A common question is, “What makes this special?” Whether it’s a new cinema camera, a fresh take on a wide-angle lens, or the latest LED lighting, we analyzed the IBC2024 exhibitors listed and scheduled the ones that made sense. Here are some we tackled on day 1. We will be doing three days, so stay tuned for the videos rolling out on our YouTube channel!
