Easily pocket able , Great Pictures, What not to like! Decent low light performance and once you increase the sharpness adjustment you will get tack sharp shots. Canons JPEG processing is excellent. Video is good also.

Overpriced and poor replacement to the S95. Three product advisories issued w/in one year of camera release. Lens wouldnt retract after several months. Canon really has dropped the ball on this line and lost a lot of fans of their Powershot series. Much better options out there ..

My S90 was aging after getting thousands of photos with it, so I got the S100, and love its wider view, slightly faster response time, and dislike its short battery life compared to the S90. Shutter lag is till a little slow. Three steps foreward, one step back. I got a Lenmar battery and that has at least as long battery life for way less money.

This little camera is perfect for digiscoping. It is a small point and shoot, but has the ability to take both jpeg and raw manually. I would give it 5 stars, but I know the camera has had some problems with the lens and I may need a firmware update. The battery is short lived and I have read about concerns with temperature. So far I am very pleased.

I own a Nikon D5100 DSLR and a small inexpensive Canon point & Shoot camera. I love my Nikon but for vacations and other occasions it's just too big to lug around. We purchased our other point & shoot Canon for a trip three years ago. Although I love the outdoor photos it took I was always disappointed in it's low light capabilities. So I gave that camera to my husband and bought the Canon S100 for myself on Ken Rockwell's recommendations. As a DSLR user primarily I wanted a camera with a lot more control than simply setting it on auto and firing away. This camera gives me a lot of options plus a dedicated ring for aperture adjustment. I can easlily adjust the lighting for day or night. I've so far used it in manual mode but also a couple of shots in auto when I wanted to take a quick shot without thinking about it. I haven't had this camera long but so far am really happy with it. Plus the photos are crisp and clear and even at a higher ISO in lower light the photos turn out good. It feels pretty solid in your hands too. I'm sold on this camera and look forward to years of use. I'd recommend this to my friends.

Photos are crisp and clear! I need to read the manual to understand all the options it offers. Great flash for low light situations. Movie feature is marvelous! Microphone surprises me when volume is low. Video allows zooming while recording. Not all camera of this size offers this. Size is perfect for me - easy to fit in your pocket. I wish the strap had the extra slide to allow for tightening around my wrist. Without this, the strap loop is too big for me.

The Canon Powershot S100 is an ideal pocket camera for me. The camera is easy to use and the image quality is very high. I can shoot jpeg and RAW so Photoshop editing of the images is easy. For the money, this camera is hard to beat.

I purchased this camera in December 2011 and have used it for thousands of pictures and for HD video. Picture and video quality is superb. It is my "go to" camera for traveling light applications. Unfortunately . . . the lens jammed in June 2012. Two week repair plus shipping and insurance. Lens jammed again in June 2013. Back to the shop hoping the warranty will be honored. Had to buy a replacement as I use the camera almost daily in my business. I can not recommend this camera.

Bought this little point and shoot as an alternative to my Canon 7D for a trip to Rio de Janiero and surroundings. Advised that taking a DSLR would not be wise, for the sake of the camera or of myself. (In retrospect, plenty of Brazilian tourists on Rio beaches and elsewhere with their DSLRs, so I expect the danger was overhyped and no different than many other intl. situations). Bought specifically for its RAW capability and relatively good optical performance. There were a few better choices in this category, e.g. larger Sony sensors and better aperture lenses, but not at this price point or size. Very important to me is small enough to fit in front jeans pocket, when traveling, which this camera still manages to do. My last travel camera was a SD870/880 which was a bit smaller. Overall, very satisfied with the camera. Didn't find too much use for the manual control ring on the lens. I guess my shooting style with a P&S is different than with a DSLR. Only disappointment was with macro, so if you're big on macro I would do some additional research.

The camera has a design flaw. Mine broke down twice in 5 months with very little use or abuse. I am asking canon to send me a new camera. I will follow up on the progress.

I've been using this camera for a couple of weeks now and it is performing will. I retired my s95 for the s100, and most of the functions are the same. I like the look of the silver, a nice change from my old black one. It took great vacation shots of my kids on the beach and camping. I got some action shots of the dogs and kids playing in the ocean, and captured a pretty cool shot of a kitesurfer who passed us by. Clear images. The biggest drawback for me with this camera and most point and shoots I have used is the lag. I love my SLR for being able to hit the shutter and take a picture immediately. I have had times where I missed the shot because of lag with the s95 and the new s100.

I purchaed this camera for my girlfriend. I'm the proud ownder of an S95 and an S100 was a natural evolution to it. I love the wide 24mm field of view and low noise performance. Big fan!

I researched this camera quite a bit and did notice the poor battery performance remarks. I just did not know it was as bad as it was, or even think it could be so bad. I regularly carry 4 batteries (charged up because the battery loses its juice so fast. It is very bothersome.

I have had this camera for a year and a half. I wanted to have a pocket-size all-purpose camera for shooting kids and to use while skiing. I am a photographer and always like to have a camera with me. Cell phones are useful but in general won't do if you want good quality and to make larger prints. This camera takes great shots. It focuses fast and accurately and handles most scenes quite well.I use the program or scene modes frequently and find that I only use manual mode rarely. The images from this camera will not hold up to close inspection with larger sensor cameras but will give you good shots in most situations. Color saturation and dynamic range as well as detail will not be as good as C size or full frame sensors. That doesn't mean that you won't get acceptable pictures depending on your purpose. The problems that I've had with this camera have been significant to me. The first is that this battery cannot stand up to exposure to cold weather for even a brief period. You may get one or two Shots off when taking pictures on a mountain while skiing or even 15 seconds of video but no more. The red battery light comes on telling you that you need to change your battery and this even though the battery is fully charged. I returned my camera to Canon who told me nothing was wrong and that the camera was up to spec. This camera is not guaranteed to take pictures at temperatures below 32°. All my previous PowerShot cameras have been fine under the circumstances in fact I have never had a problem before. I Returned my camera a second time when this continued to happen this year and they change the motherboard. The camera is a little better but it's clear that the problem relates to this particular battery. The battery has been changed For the S110 which is back to the battery used in the S95. Interestingly my wife has the S95 and that is the camera that we used this season for our ski pictures without a problem. The camera makes beautiful videos in high definition of indoor sporting events with the only problem being again the battery not lasting that long. If you shoot in slow motion your images are also likely to be somewhat dark unless you are in a very bright arena. To Make a long story short, this is an excellent camera particularly at it's present price point. It gives beautiful pictures, beautiful videos and has state-of-the-art functionality for a point-and-shoot camera. If you plan on just going out and shooting a couple of snapshots, the battery will do fine. If you're going to use this to shoot events make sure you buy an extra battery. If you plan on using this outdoors in cold weather buy something else. ps. Canon Service was actually quite good. My problem was apparently more about the battery than malfunction. The service was fast and pleasant and I have no complaints with them.

I love having a camera that I can easily keep with me and that also allows me easy manual manipulation and doesn't get in the way of itself. I'm impressed by the camera's ability to read and anticipate exposure and white balance.

It's an ideal camera for events and travel. It's in my opinion the best compact in its price category, compared with the Sony cybershot, and with the recent Canon Powershr s110.The quality of the videos is impressive.

I wanted a small camera to keep handy while documenting aircraft restoration. I got a small camera and never realized how difficult it would be to handle. Performance, image quality and operation are fine I just need a big camera that is small. Yes, I can't have both so small it is.

I bought this camera for indoor action shots of my son's basketball games. After comparing the pictures from this camera to my other basketball action photos, the quality isn't even comparable. I can get great clear pictures which was impossible from my last camera and this camera is 1/4 of the size. Amazing! Still learning to use all of the features.

I love this camera because it does so well in situations where I just can't have the heavy, bulky studio equipment with me. Amazing for something that fits in a vest pocket. It performs easily and quite well in Manual, Av, Program and Auto and in mixed and contrasty lighting allowing me to shoot fast without making a big deal about it. And it has the choice of menu functions allowing me to personalize it to my needs.

Very small for a camera with GPS (the new S110 doesn't have), RAW, 24mm equiv. wide angle, manual controls, etc. I had considered Panasonic LX7, but went with the smaller Canon. Battery life not great, max aperture decreases greatly if zoomed, video not full HD. Canon makes an underwater housing for the S100, but I haven't used it yet -- I did realize that to enclose it in the housing I have to remove the strap from the camera, which is difficult to remove and insert. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with this camera, and if I had to do it again, would still make the same choice.

Great advanced camera, performs better than expected. This is a replacement to my lost S90 wich was a really good compact. I really enjoy taking pictures with this little but powerful camera, it delivers great results, the camera grip and control wheel are very useful, the only con I encountered is that the battery life lasts less when the GPS is used. I consider this to be a pro level compact camera.

New S100
By SFO S.
I had a S95 for a month before I heard the new S100 coming out. I was just getting familiar with the S95 as a handy "pocket" camera alternative to me taking a DSLR everywhere. I was pretty happy with the S95 picture quality, but could see some room for improvement with other aspects. Having to get the "newest" camera, I promptly sold my S95 for my cost. I had only 225 pictures run through it so it was pretty much new. Wow! I just got the S100 a few days ago and it is much improved. The new a...

Great travel camera
By chinaguy
Purchased the S100 for a trip to China and was grateful to have it for video and photos. I substituted the S100 for my Vixia HV40 Camcorder on the trip and wasn't disappointed or freaked not to have a bigger camera for video. In fact, the 1080 rez from the S100 was fantastic upon downloads and edits, and the photos were sharp and balanced under all sorts of lighting conditions, including dark interior scenes. I waited until the last minute to purchase the S100 --considering its higher price (...
